I’m thinking this is the route to go.
Darkfallen allied race with san’layn and dark ranger customization options included. Add racials that can be selected like the Zandalari one to visually retheme the racial accordingly. Let players make the undead elf character they want. Could work in felblood or add it as some customizations for blood elves.
Open it to all with a bunch of class skins, maybe start with some as default, but let players pick what they want to use. More customization!
I’d love a unique void knight class, but I’m also open to void wielding paladins. I’ve got a void elf I’d make into one pretty quick if it was an option.
Both…class skins allowing the wielding of void or death through paladin abilities would be fantastic. Plus the option to pick whichever cosmic power you prefer instead of being locked to one, would be great as well.
We need less restrictions, not more.
A dark ranger/san’layn paladin wielding death or blood spells, would be pretty sweet.
Dark ranger options should be usable on pretty much any class. Rogues, Warriors, Hunters all make perfect sense. Why not just allow it on any? Did sylvanas go around and only raise the hunters specifically? Eww a mage? Not that one…leave it to rot.
Yeah, I’m thinking Darkfallen race for the character customizations, but a class skin for hunter to add some of the dark ranger themed stuff in.
Dire Beast would be an easy one to make into a proper black arrow ability. Just have it shoot a dark arrow and then summon an undead/skeleton to attack the target.
To be fair, they may be talking about something like a Void Paladin from what I gleamed from the way they said it.
I could see this working, but realistically the only differences in classes from Blood Elves would be Paladin.
They could add Druid or something, but that only kinda makes sense with San’layn being shapeshifters.
This reminded me of DnD Oathbreaker Paladins and Undead Revenant Paladins.
Hunters actually already had Black Arrow at one time as a talent I believe.
They only magic hunters have never used is Fel. So no reason they can’t add it back as its own skill.
There’s also no reason living Hunters can’t learn Dark Ranger abilities.
This is a very good point. Also they would def not go to Demon hunters either.
Not to mention, we have no idea what a “Light Customization” would be or what lore it entails. We don’t need BE’s becoming Lightbound or something like that.
Putting it out there that undead CAN use the light. It just requires a high amount of willpower, so they’d be in pain. Arguably more noble, therefore, than the living using the light if they’re doing it to defend the innocent.
Edit: Also before someone pulls the ‘but it’s rare’ argument, we have playable void elves, which would be like maybe 20 in existence if we’re being realistic. Not to mention, our character is canonically the ‘hero’ on a regular basis, so being ‘exceptional’ isn’t a stretch.
hunters actually had black arrow from wrath through legion and was only recently removed in bfa. coincidentally the same xpac that expanded dark rangers to both factions
It’s well past the time that there shouldn’t be any class restrictions anymore.
The player character is super special, so there’s no reason to restrict what they should be.
Yeah, but it didn’t do anything regarding an undead minion. Dire beast reskinned already has the mechanics, just need to change out the beast for a skeleton and give it the graphic of firing an arrow instead of the arm point or whatever it does.
Shame…we almost got to see what a light based demon hunter would be
Maybe so…I found two entries on one of the wiki page. One added in a 7. patch had a dark minion that’d appear and taunt the target.
Maybe it’s been longer than that since I’ve really used the ability cause the older versions which I was more familiar with, had no such thing. I used to main my hunter, then switched to my warrior, and now it’s been this paladin for quite some time. Think times I play my hunter, black arrow wasn’t an ability I had.
We also have a 9.2.5 patch, so maybe we’ll hear some of that tomorrow also. If I happen to see anything of Dark Ranger interest, I’ll be sure to help report it here.
Mostly, I’m keeping my expectations tempered and at least expect to see a setting more grounded in the living world (of Warcraft!). However, I do hope to see some new playable races, ones people have been requesting for awhile as well as my most wanted. That and more character slots per account somehow would also be great.
