Dark Ranger Customization Options Request Thread

Bam.

Racial identity options

  • Dark Ranger Themed Options. (Red Eyes, Pale/Undead Faces & Skins, and Dark Ranger Makeup.)
  • San’layn Themed Options. (Fangs, Claws, Batlike Ears, and Pale/Undead Faces & Skins)
  • Felblood Elf Themed Options. (Fel Tainted Skin and Potentially Horns/Claws.)
These Subrace options could be added through a quest like Nightwarrior options for Night Elves where.

The Eyes/Skins/Markings should be available for all Blood Elves regardless. Not all Undead Elves used to be hunters afterall.

The Undead themed spells can work for Living and Non-Living characters since you don’t need to be dead to learn Death Magic.

(And we’ve seen Hunters use Death magic already)

Rangers are more of a rank and encompass Hunter/Warrior/Rogue depending on the skills.

Hoping for that Velonara quest to finally show up in game one of these days.

Hoping we’ll see it on the PTR…

I am concerned that they’ll make it a class skin which I personally don’t enjoy the idea of. Having it locked to a class when we’ve seen Dark Rangers who are decidedly not rangers would kinda suck.

Plus they just went through the trouble to make all dead elves Darkfallen apparently… so… I feel like that should be either an AR or customizations.

Blood Elves should have something to offset the loss of visual uniqueness they have seen over and over again to appease Alliance fans who wanted 6 elves to be playable and got RP tools accordingly at the expense of BEs visual uniqueness.

So the justification writes itself imo. Just close off Paladin. It’s better than it being only Hunters.

I’m actually against closing off paladins… though not for lore reasons.

I’m concerned thats a slippery slope I wouldn’t want Blizzard to cross. If they’re willing to lock off paladins to customizations what else would they be willing to lock off?

for the same reason that a blood elf can have golden eyes while being a warlock I think they should let them be paladins.

In lore of course they wouldn’t be though.

I think it’s a slippery slope in the opposite direction directly in relation to the people who wanted 6 Alliance portal keepers to be playable

I’d rather have the options than not and getting caught up on Paladin when Paladin really doesn’t or shouldn’t be included anyways is such a waste of time so moving on.

Like there’s a chance it could be for only hunters and people will get hung up on cutting it off at Paladin in an idea that offers blizzard an out to give the options on a more level playing field that would make it more equal to what VEs got

I know I’d like mine to be a warrior in a perfect world. We’ve seen some who function more like rogues or fury warriors than standard issue hunters.

…Though a monk dark ranger might be an interesting concept. I like the struggling against yourself aspect, and an undead of any stripe finding calm through punching is hugely satisfying to me.

My favorite of my Forsaken is a monk. He started as a rogue in his story but had a change of heart in how he operated and learned to become a monk. He spends his time trying to help other Forsaken come to terms with who they are now in their unlife.

I had a story of mine being a warlock. He’d been a ranger but was assigned by Sylvanas to work with the apothecaries eventually learning from them how to wield those powers.

Don’t forget Lorash, who’s quite literally a raised BE Rogue who uses DR assets.

Yeah. It’s pretty clear not all Dark Rangers are Rangers.

Or well hunters…

Also battle for Darkshore shows that night elven dark rangers are sometimes wardens.

Further the recent update/clarification of lore that says all undead elves fall under the category of Darkfallen leaves more room for those options to be applied more broadly.

(though I’m not really a fan of night elf dark rangers…)

Ideally, if there was one quest that rewarded all the Dark Ranger stuff, the Spell Effects would work like Green Fire for Warlocks and the Customizations would work like Night Warrior.

So Hunters can get some Necrotic Spell Effects, and Blood Elves can have red Eyes and Undead Skins.

Locking out classes would need a subrace system IMO for it to work correctly.

Worse Case, if they added Dark Ranger Skins/Spells as one package, we could petition them to be unlinked from each other. So it would not be the end of the world.

I’m sure you’re angling for that system and yet that isn’t entirely the case is it.

Some VE faces are locked depending on void or non void skin tone.

DH options can’t be used by non demon hunters.

Currently undead skintones for Thalassians only work on DKs.

So locking them from just paladins isn’t that much of a reach is it but I’m sure you have that subrace system all lined up to argue for one way or another of that I have no doubt. I can even take a guess at what request you most want a subrace system for.

All VE faces are locked by skin. There’s a set for blue and set for non-blue. It’s just that one or two of the blue ones are new instead of palette swaps of the BE ones.

Right but theoretically it wouldn’t be hard to lock a single class out like was being presented.

Just like they lock undead skins currently to just DKs or people theorize it could be just Hunters

Not a fan of locking out an existent option from a races customization.

It’s a bad precedent to set.

Next they’ll force gold eyes on priests and paladins.

Green eyes on warlocks.

Dwarves with tattoos won’t be able to be mage, warlock, paladin or priest.

It would be a bit different, maybe? Like they’d have to add it as options to every class but Paladin. That might be how they’d do it. Not sure how that works though. Unless I’m misremembering, only the hero classes have options only they can use atm.

Yeah that isn’t really the same thing as just not including a class.

But you know what would be next, VE paladins probably, that’s actually more likely of a continuation of this convo then what you’re talking about. They lock DH options to ONLY DHs too and no one’s forcing golden eyes on paladins etc etc

The discussion also points to just being for Hunters as a class skin too, which is arguably worse and not compensation for losing visual uniqueness but the idea of just locking paladins is too much? Like please. The doom and gloom of them now forcing us to only options I don’t see what so ever.

Undead Paladins make more sense than VE Paladins though. Undeath and the Light aren’t literally opposing forces, like the Void and the Light are. So even if DR options aren’t locked from Paladins, that doesn’t mean VE Paladins will definitely follow.

It certainly could mean more restrictions of customizations from classes could follow though.

I want Blizzard to know I strongly oppose it being locked to a specific class or from certain classes.

BEs have already lost visual uniqueness and shouldn’t have to risk losing our exclusivity as Thalassian Elves over Paladins in order to get some level playing field back w RP tools of our own.

Arguably locking just Paladin out is still a better idea than it being JUST hunters, and arguably that would be a way to also address the Paladin concerns on both the undead front and void front (which I am sure are convos certain people are just waiting to have)
