There’s precipitation to the north and precipitation to the south of us. There’s a lovely band of nothing stretching across the state, and we’re smack dab in the middle of it. I have no doubt we’re going to get something, but so far it’s been just a couple light flurries.
I see yesterday, while we were at -2, Gaylord, which is about an hour and a half or so north of here, got down to -21. Thanks, but no thanks. I’m happy with what we’ve got.
So, I went to the dentist’s office today to disconnect my gear from her computer that I was using to back it up for the switchover and to inform her of what transpired. I let her know that the computer was barely half the speed of her twelve year old system, the BOSGAME “company” doesn’t even host their own drivers (they use Mediafire, which should be a HUGE RED FLAG), and to flesh out the trifecta, the system shipped with malware. There’s a reason I don’t connect new equipment to a live network until I’ve had a chance to check it out. Needless to say, her jaw went through the floor.
While I was there the hygienist told me the H1 (child) x-ray sensor wasn’t working in any room, which was odd since I knew it worked. So I tested it and sure enough, it worked. So after the eleventy billionth time of “fixing” the sensors, I just broke down and typed up a cheat sheet explaining the procedure for switching between TWAIN drivers for both the x-ray sensors and cameras and posted them in each of the four ops. Hopefully I don’t have to repeat the “it’s broken, fix it!” phase with those sensors again now that there are step by step instructions on how to initialize them.
Fun fact: The staff calls the child sensor the “pedo” (pronounced pee-dōh) sensor. They kept asking me why I don’t use that term and I had to tell them - that four letter word is usually shorthand for something less than savory, to put it mildly. Thankfully their accent and the hard “e” sound in how they pronounce that word sort of mask it from their patients, as the soft “e” sound in that word would raise eyebrows for sure.
Now I get to research the best way for them to get a prebuilt. I’m leaning toward Costco since going directly through Dell would likely entail Dell’s predatory “warranty as a service” that they have been known to force people to buy into and then later opt out of, which is a royal PITA. I’m still leaning toward having the dentist at least get the same computer for her desktop as we do the next server so if the server dies she can have me come in and just do a direct swap and phone Microsoft to transfer the server key to the “spare” system.
I’m gonna wear my phone out throwing snowballs on Imgur today, lol.
#TeamAcorn FTW
Tonight, I’m going to see if I can finally manage to get started on Siren Isle. It seems very daunting when looking at the guides and seeing how much currency we would need for all the vendor items (81k+).
Orgrimmar was attacked this evening. From an old guild I used to know and be a part of way back in the day, with other familiar names stopping by.
I’m just getting rapid fire flashbacks of all the stupid and horrible things I’ve done, the legitimately good friends I burned bridges with, usually in a drunken rage when things weren’t going my way. It’s dawning on me just how terrible I was to others.
I don’t know what to do. I can’t fix it and it just keeps haunting me. I can’t make the flashbacks stop.
I don’t mean to sour the holiday mood, but I had to say this somewhere, and I didn’t have many places. Sorry.
You sound like you are basically having flashbacks. An intrusive and uncontrolled flood of images and emotions triggered by an event. Enough of a flood that it is overwhelming you and causing you serious mental (and maybe physical) distress. In your case, seeing old guild member names.
I am NOT an expert in this. If you feel at all, that you need help, pick up the phone and call 988. That is the crisis helpline in the US.
What can you do on your own? I can only suggest a few things based on my own experiences with severe anxiety triggers where I hit sensory overload and get physically ill.
Bring yourself back to the present. The current time. A method the docs have me use is a sensory one.
Ground yourself by relying on your 5 senses. Help yourself come out of the event by noticing your surroundings. This will connect you to the present. Go through each of your 5 senses until you begin to feel calm.
Ask yourself to find:
5 things you can see. Look around and notice an object, like a table, or focus on a particular piece of scenery.
4 things you can feel. Reach out and touch something like the sleeve of your shirt or the chair that you’re sitting on.
3 things you can hear. Notice if you can hear people talking or if there is music in the air.
2 things you can smell. Maybe you can focus on coffee brewing or smelling fresh air.
Eating or drinking something during the event can help, even if it is just a sip of water.
YOU ARE NOT THAT PERSON ANYMORE! You made mistakes, bad ones. You are allowed to make mistakes. Everyone does. Not everyone accepts they were wrong, makes life changes, and grows from it. Give yourself permission to grow forward. You can’t take back the past, but you CAN use those lessons to make things better for you and others.
Forgive yourself. That may take time, but but that is a goal. It does not make the past ok, it gives you permission to move forward though.
When those thoughts overwhelm you get yourself centered into the now, get your breathing and heartbeat back under control, and do something else that does not trigger it.
Again, it is always ok to call for help. Use the resources you have. Those meds you are on are not you. They are making things a million times worse. Look up the emotional impact of steroids like prednisone that helps fight inflammation, for example.
This elf has a couple of busy days ahead of her as I’m hosting both Christmas Eve and cooking Christmas Dinner. But, I wanted to wish everyone a very happy and safe Holiday!
Craving nachos and since no one should eat nachos alone make enough for everyone to last the week. Also throws in some fruit and veggies on the far side to be healthy. Sends in the cleaning fairies to deep clean the lounge and the cooking elves to cook a 20 course meal.
/gives the CS lounge a good dusting, puts logs on the fireplace, tidies the sofa, add all kinds of beverages from coffee to water onto the CS Table, and adds a mixture of food, including a cottage pie, a roast chicken and some bacon strips.
It’s warming up. We’ll have a white Christmas, since we have over four and a half inches of snow, but it’ll be gone by the weekend.
The city managed to plow just about all the streets, except for the dead-end we live on. Didn’t make walking all that much easier, though. And since the only cleared sidewalks were on Main Street, we spent most of our walk on the street. Fortunately, the only people out were plow trucks, and they were always a block or two away.
/*Grabs a festive mug of coffee with half and half then sprinkles the top with nutmeg. Settles down by the fire on the comfy couch with a cozy blanket.
We got a dusting of SNOOOOWWWW today! Very festive and pretty. Yesterday I put a pot roast in the oven, turned on the holiday music, and built a lego poinsettia kit that was a present. Fun, festive, and constructive! Also holiday music, fun project, and delicious roasting smells works well.
Merry Christmas Eve to you too and to all the forums!
