Sounds great, I kept it simple tonight made some ratatouille, the old-fashioned stew type, not the pretty layered type.
I don’t do meatless meals often, but things over in the produce isle looked good and were also on sale.
Not quite the traditional recipe as my wife doesn’t tolerate peppers, so celery substituted for the bell peppers.
Onions, eggplant (“aubergine” if you do British English) summer squash both zucchini (British “courgetti”) and yellow crook neck, lots of garlic, lots of thyme, lots of basil, celery, couple bay leaves, salt, pepper, but no peppers.
With everything going on right now I’m starting to put more thought into moving out of this state.
A lot of unknowns with it too. Where to go, job, place to sleep. Don’t know the laws.
I’m hearing that a lot of people from California and NY have moved to Texas.
Texas is great, if you can stand the summer heat. Dallas is okay, Houston is cool, Austin is weird. San Antonio is nice. Plus I live here which makes it awesome.
it is a red state though, and we are very independent minded, to a fault at times. The cost of living isn’t too bad, living in the major cities can be high, that is why people head to the outlying cities/towns. I live north of Austin, but was a former Houstonite. Make sure you have a RELIABLE vehicle, all the cool places are at least a couple of hours away.
We got a BUNCH of state parks, and a few National Parks. Oh, we measure distance by time not miles, so you’ll have to get used to that.
To drive from one end of the that to another can take 16 hours (Orange, Tx to El Paso).
If you love TexMex food, it’s REALLY good, and the BBQ is the best. Don’t go to the chains, hit up the mom and pop joints and find a local taqueria. They are everywhere, heheh.
If you choose to live by the coast, you’ll have lotsa public beaches, the water will be a bit brown as we get the silt coming out of the Mississippi River and currents being what they are. The downside of coastal living here is Hurricanes, they really suck and can trash a place and some insurance companies will not insure you if you live in those areas.
Also as a California person, get used to a couple thing, such as pop. It isn’t soda it is pop. Or Coke. I found out Coke is interchangeable for soda or pop lol
Get me a Coke. What kind. I dunno surprise me. Orange or Dr pepper lol
Then you start on Sprite and 7-Up. Mountain Dew here didn’t used to have caffeine so that caused issues with visitors. They are starting to bring in caffeinated Mountain Dew now. Then it’s Cream Sodas - clear or pink? Bottled water is no better.
It reminds me of an ice cream shop in Newfoundland. You start with the easy questions. Hard or soft. Regular cone, waffle cone, cup. Soft had vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, any combination of them. Minimum. If you were lucky, they only had 10 flavors of hard ice cream out. They usually had seven or eight different sauces and 20 toppings. It was always better and faster to have an idea of what you wanted before you went in.
i can barely stand the summer heat in NS, so i doubt i’ll be able to handle texas heat. @@ then there’s the tornados. certainly wouldn’t be able to handle those. ..
honestly, from what i’ve read…its better than the “alternative”.
that’s understandable. i’ve always wanted to move to America, but can’t afford it for the life of me. and due to my “disabilities”, i’d be hard pressed to either find a job i’d enjoy or afford to get by on a month to month basis. .-.
don’t think i’ve ever had “texmex”, though i heard you guys are known for BBQ.
If I were to ever pull up stakes here, Texas is on the short list of places I’d move to. My first wife’s family is from Victoria, and we lived there for a bit, bookending my time in the Army. It was nice because we were essentially two hours from Houston, San Antonio, or Corpus Christi. When I was a kid, my dad was stationed at Ft. Hood and Kelly AFB. I don’t remember Killeen, but have fond memories of living in San Antonio (minus an irrational hatred of refried beans that lasted into adulthood; it was served daily in elementary school).
Dad lives in NW Florida, but I don’t think I could bring myself to go back on a permanent basis. Too many ‘Florida Man’ stories.
And of course, my sister is still trying to get me to move in with her family in Germany, German travel restrictions be damned.
Edit — On a totally unrelated note, I eventually settled on Dickey’s BBQ for dinner last night. My chosen sauce? ‘Texas Heat’.
