[CS Lounge] Pining for the Fjords

I’m definitely a fan of corpse runs. I first saw Ragefire Chasm when I soloed it the hard way as Alliance. (This was before flying. It’s easier with flying, you drop in and only need a few deaths to make it to the instance.) And I had my first character somewhere in the 50s or 60s when, for reasons I’ve forgotten, I decided I just had to go to Dalaran - this was during Wrath. That was an epic corpse run. I’m not sure you could even do it now, because it relies on getting the ghost gryphon and then taking the res in the Dalaran gy, but I think I’ve heard it doesn’t work that way now, that you’ll res at the closest gy to your corpse? Anyway, it was a lot of fun even though it would have been much more efficient to ask my 80 mage friend to port me. There’s just something satisfying about successfully doing it the hard way.

I did that run so many times that I started swimming from Westfall along the coastline. Sometimes the shark would be too far away and you’d get through without a hitch.

Mmm, I sure do love me some good chicken nuggets tbh

Hey now, I resemble that remark.

I used to carry water walking potions at all times for stuff like that. Faster, not too expensive if you don’t run into too much hostile sea life. That was in Wrath though. I’m guessing in Classic the potion is relatively expensive relative to the gold most people have.

I’ve explored most of the coastlines of Azeroth that way. Looking forward to visiting the north side of Eastern Kingdoms in Classic, since when I started playing, Ghostlands was there.

I never got to explore that coastline before BC. I know that they had an invisible wall along the West side to keep people from seeing the back of Strath.

Yes you do! It’s uncanny!

I think there’s a different wall in retail because of the way the BC area is instanced, but some stuff changed when they added flying. I’ll have to go exploring soon.

I know the creepy area under Kara was blocked before I ever played, so I’m assuming it’s blocked in Classic. Or did it even exist before BC? Kara was a BC dungeon, so I don’t even know what is there in Classic. I assume the tower is there, just empty and closed off? Of course I am not suggesting anyone violate TOS in any way. I’m just eternally fascinated by hidden things, secret passages, the leftover bIts of things that never got implemented. I’m the person who, after flying, visited all the little places you could formerly see only on flight paths, the person who peers through locked gates. The person who wonders about that one place in… where is it, Winterspring? where there’s what looks like an instance portal that isn’t, but if it were, it would have to be to the Hyjal raid, and that one in Stratholme dead side that’s speculated to have been intended as a Naxx entrance… It’s like the archaeology of WoW.

Sorry, am I getting too on-topic for the lounge thread?

Yes it existed. They made alterations to the invisible wall over time though.

The only change to that area was what was done for Legion. The happy face on the ground under the tower was there pre-BC and likely is still there.

Me too!

I know what you are referring to in Winterspring. I used to climb around that all the time. I think I still have a pic leftover from wondering around old Hyjal. Lost many of my old WoW shots with a dead harddrive. And yes, that portal by Baron has always been speculated to be the original entrance to Naxx that was scrapped. Likely because the idea seemed neat at first but not in practice. Imagine not being able to take the warp to MC and the 40 raid needing to split into eight 5 player groups to get through BRD every time.

Oh no! I just needed to turn my PC on to type this out.

Old Hyjal had a copy/paste of the Ony instance portal. In the area where you find the turtle ancient in live but at the bottom of the lake in the far corner. No loading trigger. Just the object and effect.

I have this theory that states, roughly, that as they’ve publically admitted that they changed boundary detection and stuff - that is gone with a later system than what Classic at the time ran - it MAY be excusable from an investigative point of view.

What I would do would be send a message to myself stating my intent to explore but not violate ToS just before entering the grey area and again once complete (so it exists in Blizz visibile logs). The once done a single area of interest, self report and see what any GM says. Then take it from there.

i’m much in the same way. i’m hoping to someday be able to explore Eastern Plaguelands and Blasted Lands and see what it looked like prior to the launch of Burning Crusade.

Deadwind Pass is another, though more specifically, Karazan and of course, Naxxramas…seeing that in the skies of the Plaguelands was something i always wanted to do, but never got to do, as i started just days before patch 3.2 was launched. .-.

i know there’s an instance portal in Stormwind, but it’s gated off…that was around when i started playing. i don’t remember a whole lot about the dungeons, though i remember a LOT of mobs from the Plaguelands were lvl 60 elites, especially in areas like Hearthglen, and Andorhol.

Winterspring is another area i wouldn’t mind exploring fully. i know there’s a signpost, directing travelers to Hyjal somewhere there too…seeing the old goblin models will bring back fond memories. i’m also starting to remember needing regents and mats for specific spells too, so i’m currently in the works to get enough silver to buy a rune of portals, so (hopefully) a kind Mage can port me to Darnassus on my Human/Dwarf characters, or even Stormwind/Ironforge for my Night Elf. :3

Perhaps they planned attunements like the MC warp and the BWL orb but ran out of time and therefore created separate entrances. I’m also looking forward to seeing the Classic Naxx entrance (teleport?). In retail I’ve seen where it used to be - more archaeology - but it moved just before I started playing.

Yeah, shouldn’t the fire season start in late summer? And you guys are just entering spring…

that’s…another thing i vaguely remember. though my highest (atm) is a lvl 10 Paladin, i’m kinda torn between leveling up a Hunter and a Druid as those were the first two classes i really started off with.

Not in a good mental place for work today. At all.

This is goi g to be a long trying weekend.

sometimes you’ll get a bit before the solstice but this is …

edit: saw some State fiery earlier say something like there’s been nothing like it recorded in their records of Australian history before. yay?

I got attunement to Old Naxx the hard way (rep grind, not the gold method). I had my brother form a raid with me so I could go in and look. I got to walk around the center for a minute when I got taken out by an Abomination.

slow breaths and water mate xo

oh that’s right…i read about that in the starter guide.

…i remember grinding rep for the Argent Dawn, using that accessory to get scourgestones and such. heck, i remember grinding rep for the bronzeflight, trying to get that chimera rokchops recipe…never did manage to finish that. xP

that’s also something i’ve never managed to cook up for real either, considering i’ve got the WoW cookbook and everything. it’s a hassle trying to find recipes, let alone the time and effort to make this stuff. bit hard when you don’t have an expansive kitchen like you often see on those cooking shows. (mental note: NEVER watch when hungry.)
