Yeah, humidity around here is usually high due to being around the Okefenokee Swamp. However, for some reason right now we are in the mid teens with our humidity.

And I just found out we will be here at my daughter’s for a cookout on Monday. There will be grilled chicken, carrot cake, baked beans, watermelon, potato salad, deviled eggs, & a peach cream cheese pie (that I was just requested to make).
WoW, That’s highly unusual for that area and for that matter most of the eastern seaboard. I was just looking at Phoenix, AZ and theirs is calling for it to be 28% on Memorial day with the remainder of 14 days being around 14%.
I wish ours would get that low, Last time I remember it getting that low was during a drought about 12 years ago even the trees were dying due to the lack of rainfall and intense heat.
Hope you have a wonderful time at your daughter’s Memorial Day Cookout.
I feel for you Mast, When I lived near the coast of N.C. our humidity was always high and when a hurricane would come through and knock out the power it was miserable trying to sleep at night with only the open windows and a prayer that a breeze would come through to give a little relief. But still we had to put up with the mosquitoes and them getting in the house, Man that sucked.
How are the mosquitoes in your area? Here I always make sure there’s no standing water anywhere they can breed near the house.
Yes, the humidity can be quite bad here at times. I live in Pierce County – so only about 20 minutes away from the Swamp entrance.
We had a horrible fire in 2007 that ran through our part of the Swamp and into the Florida side as well. It consumed over 564k acres. I volunteered one night to assist with feeding the firefighters. They all looked so exhausted and just beat down. But they were giving it their all to help fight our side of the fires.
Glad you had a Great Successful Boil! I’m a little envious here, I sure do miss those days, Now all the friends from then are spread all across the USA and abroad, My best friend who he & I always were the glue that held everyone together is no longer with us, I will be sure to tip a beer in his honor on Memorial Day.
All this talk about the humid hot weather and the mosquitoes got me to thinking; It’s the female’s that bite us, Males don’t bite they just are there to assist the females in reproducing.
So just as Adam was offered the Apple so shall the female mosquitoes draw our blood; All joking here; However true! LOL
I’m not exactly sure how old the large oak is in our front yard, but my husband said it was about the same size when his mother moved them out here almost 50 years ago. Its branches are covered in resurrection ferns.
One of our local residents met me at the mailbox earlier today. He was at eye level as he was on the hill behind the mailbox.
It can be really low at times, but more often it is around the 70% mark.
The low ones we have right now remind me of a story my Grandfather told me as a child. Bit of a long story to follow - so condensed behind a details tag so as not to consume too much space.
STORYHe worked for a local Pulp Mill in the Forestry division. He was in charge of clearing out the lands after the trees were harvested and getting it all ready for the seedlings. There was one particular day that his crew was having a horrible time trying to get a fire started. The humidity was just way too high (in the 70% range) and a fire just couldn't take hold.
His boss was fussing up a storm to get the burns going so the land could be cleared. His boss told him (in no uncertain terms) that he didn’t care what my Grandfather had to do to burn that land, but he better get it done! So my Grandfather kept trying and for some freak reason, the humidity had plummeted into the teens. Long story shortened – he burnt the company’s land and a thousand acres of private land not belonging to the company!
He had to appear in a court trial over the private lands being burnt. His defense was that his boss told him to burn the blasted land and that is precisely what he did!
Now I am sure that there were some liberties taken with the telling of that story when my Grandfather told it to me, as he did have a way with words and would talk your ear off if you let him.
