[CS Lounge] Caffeine, Snacks, and a Warm Fire

My dog does that with the fridge magical cheese storage box. She’s a sucker for cheese.

I’m so sorry to hear that, Ruffle.

Know you gave her a good life, I’m quite sure of that.

To lose a pet is to lose a member of the family. They are there for us when we need them the most and they love us unconditionally. You ruffle gave the cat an amazing life, that is why she made it to 19. Keep her in your heart and urn. Also let her carry on to your next creature. Please give a proper send off. My neighbour a few years ago lost a dog and they threw the cadaver in the garbage.

Sorry Ruffle. Losing pets is tough.

It’s 73! The birds are singing, and it feels wonderful. I have the door wall open for some fresh air. And it is supposed to storm overnight and turn to snow by morning. Got to love these big weather shifts. It’s back to the 40’s after this for a week.

You must be about to get the storm I’m currently getting. Snow is going sideways and the wind is rocking the car. The only reason it isn’t a blizzard is that the snow is very light, but places north of here are having blizzard warnings. I hope the other tree between our buildings doesn’t go down.

She led a pretty long life it would seem. I’m sure you gave her tons of love. You have my condolences on her passing. She may be gone now but I’m sure there’s a lot of her still in you.

It clouded over up here in the last hour or so. Looking a bit gloomy now. There’s a “Storm Warning” on Lake Michigan calling for 40-50 mph winds and 10-15 foot waves. And up to six inches of snow up around Traverse City. Here? We’ll get a bit of rain, switching over to snow later, I imagine, but not a ton. It looks like the worst of it will be in the UP. They can have it.

Had an air ambulance fly into the hospital today. We’re pretty close to it, so it rattled the windows a bit. Fortunately, that’s the first time I’ve seen it fly in here since I’ve been back. And I’m quite okay with that, I think. Sat at the hospital for about an hour, then took off again, headed for the U of M hospital, if I had to guess.

Pretty sure wouldn’t want it to be a Blizzard otherwise we’d see Vrakthris and Orlyia drinking tea and coffee going by your house :joy:

Wish this would solve all the internet issues.

Seeing that, reminds me I need a new ethernet cable. The clip at one end of the cable have snapped off, and I’m using tape to keep it connected to the laptop.

Yeah, I could use WiFi, but that sucks for a lot of games.

It’s not terrible to have a broken clip - it keeps the cord from damaging the port. If you pull too far, it just slips out. Maybe not such a great idea on the laptop side, but on the router/switch side, it should be fine.

And I’m the same way with wifi. It’s nice for my tablet and phone, but anything serious, I want to be wired in.

At least yours can be replaced easily. One of the lines my former dentist had routed had a frayed pair in the cable and it had to be stripped and a new end put on, then pulled to be able to connect to the computer. The problem with that? It was routed under the floor and we couldn’t get the flooring up so we had to do it the hard way - inside the cabinet with virtually zero room to maneuver. It’ll eventually have to be replaced entirely as it’s just Cat 5e, not even 6a. At some point modern x-ray machines devices are going to create images too large to feasibly send over 100 Mbit/sec during patient procedures.

I’m hoping the current dentist will accept the proposal I have in mind, which is to route new cables along the baseboards and then across the hallway to each room via the ceiling. That would allow me to both install Cat 8 cabling at a minimum and also add in secondary keystone jacks to each room for wired connections for the mobile iTero 3D scanner in case it ever has issues with wifi (the iTero machine will be on its own VLAN and able to connect only with the Fastmill.io computer for security).

It more of keeps keeping it within the port, rather than damaging the port.

Not exactly actually. I need a 3m cord to reach from the modem to my table. Every shops that sells ethernet cables doesn’t have any 3m cords available. Longest they have is a half metre at the moment.

Amazon? Newegg? Or are you out in the boonies where they won’t deliver?

I don’t have Prime, so I’d be paying for delivery, and I’m outside of the US for Newegg.

And no, I don’t live in the middle of nowhere.

Wonder how much shipping is. US-side the U-Green cat 8 10 ft (~3m) cable is $8, so assuming a roughly equivalent price in your currency, I guess that means shipping would be close to the price of the cable itself. I’m surprised cat 8 came down so much given just how much shielding the cable has to have to meet spec.

Also, I’m sooooooo bloated. Two hot dogs for breakfast (because I finally found whole wheat buns!), two McD’s double cheeseburgers for dinner and a shamrock shake to top it off. Pretty sure I’m well above 2000 calories for the day and I’m usually only about a 1000-1100 per day kind of guy. Thankfully the Gatorade Zero I like so much is five whole calories, so I can quench the rest of my thirst that way.

You could always crimp your own cable.

A bit overkill but at least you’ll have the means to do it again later on. Plus you can get them to the exact length you want.

You could probably also wander out to any random computer store and probably get cable that way. Or, take your existing cable to someone to get the end replaced.

…I think we could be neighbors!

I woke up to tornado sirens going off. A tornado had touched down in my city though thankfully not near me.
