That’s a really poor argument for a collective group of people who are wasting time together. Lol.
Absolutely. And nobody’s mandated to tip above a certain amount, I think it’s like 20g or something to the interface. This is about if tipping is the right thing to do or not. We’re arguing a moot point from the beginning. It’s black and white. You’re a greedy, cheap person who doesn’t value the time others are willing to spend where you won’t. Or you tip. It’s black and white.
They’re providing a service. Regardless of if you value that service or not.
I would love to see the service you get in a typical restaurant or hotel in Germany as opposed to the typical place in the USA or Canada that runs off tips. Something tells me the effort level would be drastically different. Granted that’s my opinion as I’ve never been there to know for sure.
But in reality when you tell someone “do this job for $50”, versus “do this job and I’ll pay you based on how well you did”, there’s going to be a drastically different effort level put in on average
I said I’d make someone a rank 5 Khaz’gorite pickaxe, “no minimum pay what you like lol” thinking i’d be nice and settle for like 50g, and the guy put in 1 silver. So now I specify 500g minimum for a rank 5. <3
So in other words you would rather restaurants, hotels, valet, taxis, etc all just add the tips into what they charge, forcing you to pay them if they provide you bad service?
If tips get taken away, then those employees will need their pay increased to make up the difference, increase in pay means increase in the cost of the product or service you are getting.
I’d rather have the burden of rewarding excellency be on the employer, not the customer.
Tipping should never be expected as part of the income, just as an occasional welcome extra.
people are allowed to reject a order if the tip is low. just because people say “tip what you want” doesnt mean you can go ahead and be a a**hole and tip 1g.
That’s unfortunately not the way the world works though. MOST “jobs”, rather than “careers”, do not reward effort as it is usually a set wage for that job, or time/service based increases the longer you have been there regardless of how you have performed.
Like I said, most jobs in the industry where tipping happens, are college kids, or low paying jobs outside of those tips. Having customers pay your employees in tips, saves you as the business owner the money that you would instead be spending to pay them.
If business owners had to increase wages due to tipping culture going away, you will literally be paying more money for the same product, with most likely, less effort put in by the worker, because that money the business is now paying them has to come from somewhere and it won’t be their pockets it will be ours.
Having the option to tip based on the service you received, seems far better to me than it just being tied into my bill one way or another and being FORCED to pay more
I think you’re missing the point. This guy offered 50 gold for something, and got rejected because it’s literally an insult of a tip with how easy 50g is to get in this game. It’s not a “you owe me 30k or else”, it’s rather a simple “I’m ignoring this laughable offer and finding a different option” and going on your separate ways.
Just because the crafter didn’t want to waste his time for 50g, shouldn’t make him the bad guy
And that person paid how much buying the mats? Yeah, you ground up that profession, those points. I have an engineer, I am well aware that we have to provide some of the mats for that something that person is getting.
However, I’m fine with someone only tipping me 50g if they are providing their own mats. I’ve done plenty of crafting free of charge in the past myself.
What are people tipping? What are crafters expecting?
I have been going with 500g. Completely arbitrarily, based on absolutely nothing but a hunch. I supply all the mats though, so it’s basically 500g for a few seconds of your time. Too much?
