Could I please have a way to turn OFF auto-attack?

This sounds like a bug to me. If not a bug you may have fire on left click on. I do remember something like that in the options but it’s been awhile.

Dunno about auto attack but Id love to have the shoot option able to be turned off for wands.

It’s a bug.

Another poster directed me to old bug reports.

Explained why it only happened occasionally.

I still would like an option in the UI to turn off auto attack on every one of my characters but at least I am feeling less frustrated with this particular situation.

Auto attack is a core ability of melee and hunters, so thats unlikely to change as it will drastically change the combat of the game.

If you want no auto attack then switch to casters and you will achieve want you want. Your character will only do things when you press a button. (inb4 wand spec).

I would opine that it is not an ability at all, it is the computer playing the game for you because you are not enabling the function.

On top of that, it would be an option, so it would only change combat for those who enabled it.

When I returned in 2019 after a seven year absence and discovered this travesty (on my gnome rogue who the computer was playing just as much as I was), I took to the forums and it was explained to me that Blizzard removed the ability to turn off auto-attack because it was needed to ‘hide’ gaps in rotations on certain specs (like my rogue).

So I am aware it is long shot.

But I am hoping that, with the return of talent trees, Blizzard no longer needs to ‘hide’ gaps so they could reinstate this option.

I am posting on a caster.

If you put the auto attack button on the spellbar, you can toggle auto-attacks off.

It’s just automatically toggled back on if you use any hostile ability. EDIT: or right click an enemy.

Homie wants Blizzard to change how autos and rotations work so they can turn off autos for their RP omegalul.

Have you tried left-clicking instead of right-clicking?

Please see post 31 of this thread.

Hitting the Escape key would do that.
Or, if they’re auto-attacking when you click on a target, then, maybe, left-click instead of right-click.

Use a wand and mog it into a sword or dagger and you’ll literally be unable to autoattack.

Hit escape or click to clear targeting, this will exit auto-attack unless you right click or use an offensive ability. This is also assuming you are not using left click interact mode.

Me when I accidently pulled Sennarth in Vault on an alt run once . . .

Thank you for the suggestions.

Unfortunately, none of them permanently disable auto-attack which is what I would like to be able to do, as I was able to back in Cata.

Mog them into a non-wand weapon since you can do that now. Right-clicking then gives a red text error that the attack is incompatible with the appearance.

As for the hunter thing, that’s been a bug since at least S2. It needs to be squashed for good.

A permanent auto-attack disable option will almost certainly never happen.

As other have said for Hunters and Melee Auto-attacks are part of your core rotation, often proc’ing passives and deal a non-negligible amount of damage, like 2-3% depending on class/spec from the auto attack damage alone ignoring proc, over the course of a fight. Even more if you are a Fury Warrior running Annihilator.

Furthermore new players (or new to melee/hunter) could possibly accidentally turn off auto attacking which would be detrimental to their play experience.

This is the answer I think, enable left click to interact

As I already said above, I am well aware in a long shot as Blizzard uses it to fill in gaps in various spec’s rotations.

And, again, as I already said above, I am hoping the talent trees have solved that problem to the point that it could become available again so I am reminding Blizzard it is there (a) with this thread, (b) sending in a suggestion thru the game (a suggestion made by a poster up above) and (c) a second thread in the bug report section of this board, once I have figured out if the bug I am experiencing is only happening in raids or in the open world as well.

If you are not pressing it, it is not a part of your rotation. Auto attack is the computer filling in gaps in your rotation.

There is more than one option in the UI that can fall under this, yet they are still available so this argument does not hold water.

Also I really wish people would stop assuming new players are too stupid to figure out and solve any problems they have or don’t know how to use google to find various resources like wowhead, reddit, ect if they can’t. These kids grew up on the internet for crikey’s sake and could probably figure out in any issues faster than someone who has been playing for twenty-years, given how the game continually changes.
