Can you explain and articulate why you would be against BattleTags?

I am more than willing to give up having it show that I’m posting as “Jalanili” specifically if it cuts down on some of the noise and complications that the janky workarounds to have per-character posting on the WoW forums introduced, personally.

oh my god I adore you

That will be pretty easy once we get Dracthyr seeing as they start at level 58.

Nobody can bother you on your Battletag, esp not in game. Ever. It is way more secure. To even talk to you they have to request permission. You have to add them as a friend.

Battletag means nobody knows what your in-game chars or servers are and can’t bother you without your express permission.

I just logged into my D3 forum account and I never realized that it does show the full BattleTag

It does let you select a character for your profile but everyone shares the D3 icon. So maybe our chosen character with a CD attached to who you select?

Now that is a really good point.

Thanks Mirasol, I forgot when I responded to Kijo that he already has me on ignore lmao.

I enjoy things like showing off my transmog on different characters. Taking away my freedom to choose my avatar because the moderators can’t seem to crack down on trolls isn’t cool.

Why do you think your solution will make any difference? People will just get more battlenet accounts and level a toon up to 10 and continue trolling.

You dont think they can have a BattleTag account name with you being able to pick your character/avatar? All while sharing Trust Levels, Likes, ect.

You need a paid wow sub to post on the forums.

They don’t even have to force our names to battletags. just display the battle tag

that way we could still post on characters, but it would be VERY obvious when someone is sock puppeting

like this

but better designed. I know I’m a MS Paint pro, but I think it could look better if an actual designer did it.

That was quick, thanks for that visual.

They kind of have to. The text part of our Battletag is not unique. So there can be many with “Autai” but only one Autai#1234 who is different than Autai#4567.

Again though, it is not private info, and nobody can message you without your permission and adding them as a friend.

To post requires a paid subscription so that would get expensive fast. Still an option, but it slows people down.

1 Bnet account = 8 WoW licences with up to 50 chars per license. One Bnet account right now can have 400 separate posting chars. Not counting additional for Classic.

Changing to Btag posting would condense those 400 chars into 1 Btag with your avatar being the character you select to post with that day. It would always display the Btag with your char sub to it.

The way the D3 ones work is that you see the full battletag when you go to that persons profile.

Oh totally. I just never realized that they did it was all.

YES! Although I had in mind to switch the Btag and char name locations. I would put the Btag up top and the char name down lower. I don’t care which they do though, as long as Btag is displayed and the trust level, post history, flags, likes, etc are bound to the Btag.

Why would they? They’ll just give us all blank wow icon portraits. This is Blizzard. Minimum effort.

All your proposal would do is result in people losing choice on how they appear, and potentially harassment. It wouldn’t solve anything.

Moderation will solve things.
Shutting out sock puppets would reduce the work for moderation.

People already make alternative battlenet accounts to troll on over on other Blizzard forums.

It would go up each expansion to the cap of the previous expansion.

Cogshanks… I miss that plug-in… Because it allowed me to decide who I wanted to interact with… because it let me know which posters were posting in good faith and who wasn’t.

It would also enable harassment. People wouldn’t be able to search for a new guild on an alt without potentially dealing with harassment. People who might have good reason for posting on an alt such as asking for advice about a problem won’t be able to do so.

The moderation would also get even worse because the ability to report would get even more gutted.

You can’t get harassed via your Btag. Nobody can talk to you without your permission and they can’t contact you in game. They can’t even see your other characters.

The only way to shut off sock puppets is to prevent it. As in post by Btag with the char as your avatar. Yes, posting by Btag goes a long way to stopping the sock puppeting.

Yes, they do. But it reduces them from 400 chars per Btag to 1 posting option per Btag.

If I want to be mercenary, it would make Blizzard money to force people to make new Bnet accounts and subscribe again for forum access. Heh.

If I want to be more realistic, it would discourage sock puppeting by making it more expensive and harder to do.

Same.

Of course they could. Use the in-game features where nobody knows who your alt is.

If someone has developed a bad reputation and nobody wants to help them, well then that is a social consequence. Hopping chars to avoid consequences is exactly what I would like to see stopped.

No, you get the intended 5 reports per day and no longer have the ability to abuse the report system by switching alts!

They have already used BattleTags in all of their other game titles. There is less potential for harassment then currently.

No, people make alternative characters to troll. I doubt there are many who pay for a separate account just to troll.

Even if they do, they’ll just have the same thing occur that happened on their main account and will give away that they’re a troll.
