They need to at least have it be like most other forums operate. You get one profile, create a name for that profile, and no alt accounts are allowed. Because the trolling is unreal here.
The only people against it would be the ones who use the current system to hide and troll.
B.tag no
1 character, that they have to stick with, sure.
But nothing that makes random people try to add you etc.
You realize anyone can add you to their friends list with name-server right now and whisper you? Send you mail?
With BattleTag, you need to be mutual friends to whisper.
Cogshanks i believe it was called. battle pets is the closest we have now, and im surprised their hasnt been an extension made to use that yet.
a long while back someone made a post about a terrible idea they had, and was getting told so my many many people and so in comes some other character trying to back them up and all a sudden they are talking to eachother like âglad someone else is smart enough to see how great this idea isâ âoh for sure, i would buy you a beerâ âid love to have a beer with you!â something along those lines⌠so i checked their pets and lo and behold, same team with same custom named pets⌠so i linked both of them and said something along the lines of talking to yourself with an alt, how pathetic⌠they stopped posting in their thread after that.
but seriously, any coders out there, lets bring back cogshanks in some way with battle pet collections!
Doesnât have to be battletag, but singular per-battlenet-account ID, yes. Itâd work better with the forums anyway since the current character-based system is a massive bodge â the forum software doesnât actually understand characters, they just have a script that generates accounts from characters.
Wouldnât stop sockpuppeting and trolling entirely since people with more money than sense can and will pay for a second bnet account to do that with, but itâd still cut the nonsense dramatically since itâs a sure bet that most current participants do so only because itâs easy and free.
But that opens up a different set of problems.
But I do not like having to find out who is a legit add(someone I maybe raided with in a pug) vs a random add. I hate random people adding me on Facebook too. Itâs the step of having to go through them and deny them that annoys me.
Yeah, but Blizzard already has the infrastructure and BattleTags developed. They use it in every other BNet game forum.
Would you rather ignore friend requests or the current system where anyone can add you without your consent and whisper you?
This toon still shows as being in the guild I was in like 2 years ago. You really think they have the competence to change anything in the forums?
Well, considering the other Blizzard game forums use BTags I would say yes.
Thatâs actually a side effect of the current character-account system being a giant hack. The forum software doesnât understand WoW characters at all and so they have to periodically âsyncâ character-accounts with characters which as youâve seen gets âstuckâ semi-frequently.
That wouldnât happen with normal forum accounts that arenât tied to characters.
Ah, didnât know that. This is the only one Iâve ever used.
I think they are afraid to try anything after they attempted to convert to RealID, which I honestly donât know how they thought that was a good idea.
They canât.
Battletag requires you to accept a friend request before someone can talk to you. The current char-server system allows anyone to add and bother you in game without your permission. Battletag grants more privacy, esp in-game.
I actually DO want them to switch the WoW forums to match the rest of the Blizzard forums. Every other Blizzard forum posts by Batteltag - a made up nickname we select.
All post history, likes, flags, and trust levels are at the Btag level. So switching alts would not impact posting history/trust levels. Our chars would be our avatars, not individual posting accounts.
Yes, it would cut down on sock puppets and alt hopping. It prevents people from switching chars to report or like, etc.
No, it would not let people go find all your alts - only alts you post with. You have MORE privacy with Btag than with chars - as far as people contacting and bothering you.
Now, some people do have more than one Bnet account so that would not stop them, but it would cut way down on the alt hopping.
It also makes no sense that when we transfer a char, rename a char, or switch chars, that our trust levels and post history vanish Btag would prevent that.
I love that you are gnoming!! <3 Yay gnome party!!
Yeah, I server transferred a few months back and had to start over. I was real annoyed.
The Discourse forum software they are using is set up by default to use a single account for post history, trust levels, flags, etc. They had to get a special âhackâ version to let us post by characters.
So yeah, they could just make this forum work the way all the other Blizzard forums on Discourse work. It would solve a lot of issues in one large sweep.
Oh, look, itsa vampire gnome.
(Yeah, I feel weird not posting on Muffin. A big NAH to alt hopping. Ainât nobody got time foâ that.)
This is part of the issue with the current âwork aroundâ to post by chars. Any change and you start over. If it was tied at the Bnet level you would have one posting identity (btag) and your chars would be your avatar display/name. Switching chars, server transfer, name change, etc would not impact anything forum wise.
Would make it a lot easier to get and maintain TL 3 for folks who want it as well as find previous posts you have made in your post history.
