as has been stated repeatedly every time someone brings this up… addons are customized UI… period. they are a core part of the games design and intent. those that broke the game were disabled by coding features the rest are working as intended
I honestly have always felt that Blizzard should build in the features of some of them (whichever ones Blizzard feels is appropriate) and then block all the rest. Ion stated in an interview they design boss fights with addons in mind. That more or less makes certain addons required and no game should require outside sources be used in order to play the game at the highest level. If they designed the boss fights without taking in addons then I say allow whatever. I just do not agree with designing a game around optional 3rd party addons. If they are so important, Blizzard needs to incorporate them into the base game.
Me not raiding THIS tier has NOTHING to do with my opinion on if raid addons should be allowed or not. I am not playing THIS tier because I choose to not to and I am playing other games right now that are keeping me busy.
That is like me saying that you have no right to make comments about how the Jailer fight should or would be changed because you never cleared it on Heroic. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, regardless of their status in the game or how far they have gone. Even if the person has never raided ever in this game, their opinion is still their opinion and since this is an open forum, everyone is allowed to make that opinion, regardless if you like it or not.
I respect that you disagree with my opinion, but as long as the question “Should addons stay or go” remains… My opinion on if they stay or go is still valid. If you do not like that decision, then that is your problem.
My opinion for raid addons is this: If blizzard wants to do the Among us mechanic they have to implement something similar to the voting WA in the base UI. It’s really easy and lazy do these mechanics expecting volunteers to do the heavy work.
Yes. I know there are addons for FF14. They aren’t allowed, but people still use them.
Yoshi P ((The director of FF14)) has said they know people use addons to change the UI and using ACT ((a combat meter addon)) and I believe there is one like DBM, but I haven’t seen many ever use it and he has said they don’t actively go after people using them unless they are being talked about in game or it is causing any harm to the game.
My point was in that post was that the Devs of FF14 are able to create fights for different difficulty levels without the need to use any kind of addons to do the fights. All the fights in FF14 are telegraphed by how the boss moves and they have their own markers for all the mechanics and these markers are commonly used in normal dungeons to teach players what these markers mean so when they come into a raid and they see that marker appear, they know exactly what they need to do.
If you check out this page, it covers all the markers used in raids and these markers are all shown to players in most dungeons to show people how they work.
yes, I know how FF works.
I also know that most people (well, most people that I interacted with) playing at a high level use ACT and other addons. (meters, for example)
no doubt, FF does a great job of broadcasting boss abilities, and wow could do better, but I think it does everyone a disservice to pretend that it’s some addon free utopia.
For Normal and Heroic, yes. The Devs in WoW have added in pop up text that say that the boss is about to do a mechanic which has been helpful.
This is good and on the right path they should continue with imo as it helps those who are just starting WoW and may not know much about addons and how to use them to help with doing raid fights.
I personally think they should do away with the adventure guide. Get rid of it. Let people go in blind to learn the fight and the mechanics first hand. Let people progress through the fight without knowing what to expect later.
