let us start this conversation should we keep addons or should we get ride some of them but not all. i my personally think it’s about time blizzard crackdown on some.
what are your thoughts on addons. should blizzard bring more in as part of the base UI if so what ones do you think they should add.
Stay. (keep addons)
Blaming addons for tougher, overly designed or less fun boss mechanics is nothing but laziness on Blizzards part.
We wouldn’t need Addons for certain mechanics if they were well telegraphed. That’s all it comes down to.
Stay, i just don’t want to see content (particularly raid/dungeon bosses) become increasingly convoluted in their complexity just so that they’ll be challenging for people that use addons to instruct them on how to deal with everything. The bigger question should be, is it ok to make a game that probably shouldn’t be played without addons?
Addons should stay. Blizz should not blame lazy design on addons.
Any more raid fights seem like a bizarre version of dance dance revolution. None of them fell epic.
Can we really start a conversation that’s been going for almost 20 years?
Don’t like them personally, but can’t put that Cat back in the Box - that ship has sailed.
The original post reminds me of Al Gore’s special Manbearpig meeting where he says, “lets get this meeting started. What do you kids think we should do about Manbearpig?”
Combat add-ons should be removed altogether. If you’re raiding and talking about DBM, weak-aura’s or dps count it should go. Following FF14 procedure and help with toxicity in the community and the extreme difficulty content.
After having played other games where addons are not allowed, I find that the ones needed in combat should go. I am finding it is much more fun to have to pay attention to what is happening in the fight than to that addon flashing at you.
I also realize that as long as blizzard creates mechanics where people have to talk to each other within a raid, there will be addons. Most groups require the teams to be on mute so that the raid lead can be heard and to prevent inappropriate things from being heard. Not to mention the people who have kids in the background.
I feel like ui addons or dps meters aren’t a big deal. But addons that tell you everything a boss is gonna do and rotation addons are a bit much.
That’s a tough debate. It is one that should of course be ‘on the plate’ so to speak. On one hand it introduces players to an avenue of learning a language (LUA).
It’s a really tough one for sure. We need plenty of feedback from everyone, weighing pros and cons, so we can all come to a refined agreement or possible compromise.
It will be interesting to see everyone’s unique feedback and opinions.
Delete them all.
Did a ship sail off with a cat in a box?!? I hope there is food and water for its journey.
Just because Asmongold likes to complain about addons now doesn’t mean they should be removed from the game
I use ElvUI, it gives me more control over my UI than Blizzard would probably ever give (and I need that control because as a healer I play the game differently from most other people), and I like that if I want even more control over my UI I could just learn Lua or whatever language is used to make WoW addons
There is no reason to remove them.
Addons are fine, but I’m okay with Blizzard disabling addons that literally play the game for you. DBM and WA just display information that you yourself have to respond to.
The WA that showed you the Among Us imposters on your raid frames is an example of what was and should be broken.
Yes, I believe that would come down to clearly defining the audio: Take Mists of Pandaria Marksmanship Hunter for example; It was very rhythmic audio with clear definition to immediately distinguish the shots. Auto Shot had a clear sound, Arcane Shot had its own clear audio sound, Chimaera Shot, Aimed Shot, etc…It really sounded clear and almost like I was rhythmically playing the drums with all of the distinct slap, pew, pop, pow audio sounds for the abilities.
It comes down to ensuring a CLEAR & SIMPLE distinguishing sound for every mechanic, ability, and cooldown.
The same goes for visual stimuli as well. Some of us do have impairments.
It comes down to ensuring simple, clear, and accurate audio and visual; players will accomplish the coordinated task. Then the use of addons are near unnecessary.
HOWEVER those addons are probably a LIFESAVER for some of us who are impaired auditorily or visually. It is an absolute MUST that they have the accommodations necessary for easy comfortable aids. I believe it is for this reason that addons must be allowed.
Hmm, I have different opinions on different addons –
-
Weak Auras - I think should go.
-
DBM - I feel should be situational. In some cases stay, in others disabled.
Recounts for damage / healing etc - Should stay, people like to use the arguement for it to ‘Go away to help with toxicity!’ but I feel it should stay for the very same reason – Some people just want to bludge & be lazy, not giving a $#!% about their role & just coming for a free ride.
Not to mention, those recounts helped improve oneself as a player on how to improve damage / healing / tanking, or how they can mix up rotations or talents and see how it progresses forward.
- The other addons, I don’t really care for but all should be monitored & taken into account on their own merit - Not all put into the same bowl, so to speak.
Should get rid of some like the one that just literally spams peoples’ whispers and ginvites people without whoever is running it having to do really any work. Break functions of some of the others, like TSM snipe scans, and groups/operations just let it be an addon that can change some UI stuff and tell you the active prices of things.
Combat addons will be tricky, but I definitely think a bunch of functions of big wigs, DBM should be broken as well as Weakauras.
Addons have always been in the game. To make up for the removal of addons would be way to big of an ask lol.
