There is actually no eveidence that they are using just faith to become paladins, but some eveidence they are drawing the sunwell
From gamepedia;
With the Sunwell restored, the Blood Knights now channelled their power directly from it—a far less damaging and far more harmonious relationship than their previous method of gaining power.[17]
Liadrin makes it pretty clear that she’s faithful and I refuse to believe that the leader of the blood knights has no influence on the blood knights. She explicitly espouses faith multiple times.
I refuse to beleive that a group of people is sheep and unable to think on their own, with their own opinions. Liadrin =/= all of their thoughts/opinions.
Do all BEs not draw from the Sunwell? The Farstriders I suppose? - but even they have some connection to it do they not?
The Sunwell is a unique thing for BEs yes? That isn’t being disputed. It’s also half Holy? And they still have their belief in the light. So if we are going off assumptions now if anything all I can see is BEs being extra powerful Paladins having the Light and a powerful source of it to draw on that is uniquely theirs?
The addition of the Sunwell for BEs doesn’t take that theme away from BEs, especially since they are Light oriented, they aren’t Loa oriented like the Zandalari or An’she oriented like the Tauren, but the Light.
Yarp. I’m sure there are deviations, but when I think typical Blood Elf Paladin, I think of Liadrin. She’s probably a good example of what’s considered “typical”.
Edit: On an unrelated note, because I was trying to type and play at the same time, I now know what happens when you accidently walk off the side of Oribos (sp?)
Void Elves aren’t part of Quel’thalas and the Light is the recognized faith of Quel’thalas? Or is that not correct? Magisters are Magisters, the official faith of Quel’thalas would still be … the Light?
You’re saying the faith of the society in question isn’t valid … because the society in question also has other facets to it?
Also, is it ever stated that Magisters are inherently athiests? The fact that Lightforged can be mages means that the Light and mages aren’t mutually exclusive.
They where, the first batch was magister’s of qual’thalas before they where banished.
I don’t see texts of this, but I can summize maybe less 1/4th of the population has the faith, mostly via paladins or priests.
I’m not, but they are largely not a light worshipping race.
True, but with the large group of them wanting to explore and weaponize any kind of beneficial magic they can grab, one would say they would view the light more as a weapon then thing to worship.
That’s what the golden eyes represent though, an elf’s acceptance and faith in the light, which is the whole symbolism of Lady Liadrin’s (and all of her Blood knights) eyes being changed from green to gold.
But that’s the whole point for why Lady Liadrin exists, she’s meant to represent the beliefs and views for that group of Blood elves. This is why the Blood Knights armor is always fashioned after hers, and why they all received their matriarch’s golden eyes in the battle for the Arathi Highlands.
Blizzard uses Lady Liadrin for this very purpose, as a prop device to deposit Blood Knight lore to the players.
Yes, this is correct, but lore-wise only priests/paladins get’s it if they are actually faithful (gameplay wise anyone can use it) I didn’t say they couldn’t.
The armor is fashoined like hers because it’s the generic army armor? You do know militaries has strict attire codes right?
That’s what quests are for, she is not the entire driving force of the plot of blood knights.
Just like they used Thrall, Saurfang and Garrosh to explore different facets of orcish identity, they have always represented larger cultural trends through individual characters.
High elves didn’t follow the light as closely as the other alliance members, dwarves was introduced to the light by humans. Gnomes/NE’s are not specific light users, with gnomes using the light as a medic and NE’s worshiping elune.
A dev also said that lore-wise only the devout paladins/priests get’s it. They didn’t say all, but they specifically stated that. The only reason players got to use them is for customization purposes.
I did not seen any of these in the scenario, but I suppose they can be said as body guards at the event. There is an obvious large amount of magister’s there.
