Dungeons were better when they were not designed to be an Esport.
I destroyed more âcrittersâ than you ate McDonaldâs fries in your whole life!

No. No.
It would work for AWC or MDI. Would be super weird for the world first race.
Iâll admit I still forget world first is under the e-sports umbrella now~
Think it would be the exception, for sure. No one really expects WF to be balanced they want to see the wacky stacks and strats used at such low Ilvl vs the highest level of content.
There will always be a meta in any RPG/Customization game.
Always. Even in Dungeons and Dragons, there are players who take pride in number crunching and finding the best combination of feats, racial abilities, backgrounds, and class abilities for optimum numbers.
You know what? Itâs a perfectly valid way to play the game, too. If people want to find their fun in the number crunching to get the optimal gear for the best numbers, good for them.
Itâs not for everyone, and were I interested in getting the cream of the crop items for PvP, Iâd likely hop on a class discord and do my homework and practice until I had to wear a wristguard to protect against carpal tunnel.
Fortunately, Iâll be happy at 210, which is heroic gear levels, which is a respectable amount of nerding out over this video game in my eyes.
Well said.
With how badly it was built we may not need to.
Time will further highlight the erosion.
The game has always had a meta long before mplus or arena even existed.
I think the issue runs deeper than competative elements.
Going to speak my mind hereâŠ
Iâd wager to say that guides are ruining the game. Theres no enjoyment in already knowing all the information before you do a dungeon or raid. Someoneâs already done the research for you, so you feel no personal accomplishment.
Itâs easy to go to a website and get all your need-to-know meta information and ends up becoming ârequired knowledgeâ. Obviously we cant just remove guides and call it good â theyâre here to stay until blizz says otherwise.
Back then most people relied on tips and tricks via word-of-mouth⊠Or thottbot.
And again like metas have always existed long before mplus and arena so have guides. They have been around all this time the difference now is the more casual player base has access to this information and when you have information without experience or knowledge then you run into problems.
Pretty much this.
10-15 years ago information on min/maxing and meta comps etc. was A) harder to find, and B) not always trustworthy. The elitist jerks forum in TBC was a gold mine in those days because it was a reliable source with information on most classes/specs. These days itâs literally everywhere - streamers, forums, guides, players themselves. The game has also become more simplified since then so itâs much easier for average players even to figure things out on their own.
There is definitely more of an expectation for people to know their stuff now because thereâs no real reason not to.
Youre such a meta slave. sometimes people just wanna do their own thing.
This is why I have always loathed arena since TBC even, if someone told me they would add it to PvE content as well back then, I wouldnât of believed it.
Maybe instead just make it so theres an option to not need a rating/timer on those things. Some people really do like those things and I get that but having the option to not have them would make it 1000x better for us players who dont really like them at all.
All for this though, please the game is meant to be a fun MMORPG not a bloody Esport.
One things is speed run for fun, one things is being restricted by time. Huge difference
Now all of a sudden scaring all those bunnies may of not been as rewarding as once thoughtâŠ
I think Iâd take playing a meta spec over needing 2 buds to rotate with me playing one toon in AV 24 hours a day lol
The game is meant to be what the devs make it.
When was that?
Because Classic has a meta.
And if classic has a meta and it was âthe system that rewarded dedication and fun over meta slavingâ, then maybe the game wasnât better back then, maybe you just didnât know any better.
