Community Council member unleashes their inner Worgen

this wasn’t the heritage quest, that came out for worgen in 2019 or so. this was the main selling point of the patch that everyone can do. this was the big thing 13 years in the making.

after how many requests does this change? is there a amount?

I see where you’re massively mistaken. Reclaiming of Gilneas was not the “main selling point of the patch” in any capacity. It was a foot note, and sub-content update for Worgen heritage quest introduction.

Seeds of Renewal was an entire content update. Not reclaiming Gilneas.

wait theres content?

Well actually, “Reclaiming Gilneas” was advertised as a major feature in this patch and featured heavily in its teaser trailer. Have you not seen the 2024 Roadmap? It’s there in big letters. Players have waited over a decade for this event, and doing it now was specifically designed to welcome returning players back to a subscription in anticipation of this long-desired content, undoubtedly in hopes they would stay for the forthcoming xpac. They didn’t even put it on the PTR in order to maintain the mystery and hype. Players being upset that it turned out to be a nothing-burger are quite justified to be upset. The fact that Worgen players are demanding another long-requested feature as recompense for flubbing Gilneas is totally understandable. I don’t have strong feelings about tails personally, but I say more power to them. The Reclaiming was bollocks, they should have their tails.

That’s not only fundamentally untrue, it’s completely made up.

Seeds of Renewal in no way advertised it as “the selling point”. It’s listed as a footnote, not even in the top 5 footnotes, of the content update.

The “WE WAITED A DECADE!” pearl grasp is also completely faux. No you didn’t. You didn’t unsub, wait 10 years patiently checking for patch notes to see if it was coming, and then resub specifically to play it. Quit trying to skew the narrative in a ridiculous/untrue way. It also wasn’t sold as any form of interaction of TWW or having any driving narrative story importance to the gamestate as a whole.

You’re making massive leaps into “This is a small area of this patch” into “WE SPENT SO LONG ON THIS. IT’S OUR PRIDE/JOY. RESUB FOR THIS!!!” - and it’s just not the truth. It never was advertised like that. It was never supposed to be that. It was never implied to be a massively important event to the game as a whole.

The “It wasn’t even on ptr to main mystery/hype!” is also just a complete butt-pull. It wasn’t on PTR because it wasn’t on PTR. You’re making things up, and saying things with no foundation hoping that someone else agrees with you - or at least doesn’t challenge you on the fact it’s untrue. This whole thing never happened.

An insanely small minority of people are upset that their heritage quest line is mediocre. This happens every single solitary time in a heritage line - they’re all mediocre/terrible/short, and claiming it’s some outrage because it’s your fur-sona is just goofy. All of them are bad.

Demanding is an absolutely hilarious notion. Blizzard does not care about your furry alt having a tail or not, and they’re not concerned if you unsub over it or not. This content wasn’t “flubbed” - you just had it in your head it was going to be some massive content update defining how your fur-kin learned how to awoo or whatever… and that wasn’t it. “Demanding” anything is just silly. They’re not demanding. They’re begging, and throwing tantrums over not getting specifically what they thought they should have.

It was a small sub-section content update part of a major patch cycle. It is exactly as advertised. If you don’t like it, don’t participate in it.

And why don’t they have tails, despite the bone being there, and it being on the female concept art in particular?
The exact same female concept that was scrapped extremely late into beta.

It’s anti-furry crap. The only reason they don’t have them is because somebody in the past decided they didn’t want to cater to furries. Werewolves do have tails on and off in pop culture, and where I’m from, culturally they do too, so don’t even pull that crap on me. I’ve been following horror pop culture stuff for 20 years.

I’m not even a furry, but it’s getting exhausting seeing this community continually get absolutely shafted for no logical reason. And the continual gatekeeping towards this stems from the furry stuff too; nobody’s sitting there telling trolls to shut up as they spam threads about beards.

We’re talking about a race that can’t even change their hair colour, despite their original models that were scrapped being capable of doing so.

Just give them their tails. They’ve been screwed over enough.
Also, any of these race request things are coming from a “minority” of players.

How many customization options that didn’t exist prior just showed up during the Shadowlands overhaul? Heck, we can go back as far as Vanilla.

Male Night elves can be priests now! Lore ruined!
Goblins are Horde only now! Lore ruined!
The dark troll skin was added despite them not really existing anymore. Lore ruined!
Manari playable! Lore ruined!
Blood Elves have blue eyes now! Lore ruined!
Void Elves can be Darkfallen now! Lore ruined!

It doesn’t matter.
Rule of cool is where Blizzard used to draw from, and still does. But for some reason, Worgen can’t have cool things since they destroyed the female model in the Cataclysm beta.

Listen, the people that post in GD 10k+ times a year have already told me that the worgen quest was beloved. Now this? I’m so confused.

literally the first thing that happens when you log in, there’s a giant announcement banner with genn in it that says “hey come help the worgen reclaim gilneas” and everything else is smaller. this is what they were attempting to entice people with, because the only other story content in the patch is the even shorter bel’ameth quest.

it is not required in any way for the worgen heritage, because again, that came out 4 almost 5 years ago. the two things are not related.

If you want to ignore Blizzard’s own marketing and tell me what my own motivations are in order to prove yourself right, knock yourself out. I’m not sure why you need to be right about this, but you’re getting a little too shrill to come across as rational.

Because that concept art wasn’t proper, and went against the established design of the Worgen from 2004 and ALL the other 2009-2010 Cata development art. It has nothing to do with some “anti-furry agenda” from some “malicious developer(s)”. Blizzard established that their WoW version of werewolves don’t have tails, and they have shown they intend to maintain that position.

It also doesn’t make sense for Goldrinn to bless the Worgen. The last time an Ancient has blessed someone was when Cenarius blessed the Highmountain for playing a crucial role in several battles during the War of the Ancients. THAT is what is worthy of getting blessed, and the Worgen haven’t done anything of that caliber. Even if they did get a blessing, it wouldn’t matter because again Blizzard has established that they don’t intend for Worgen to have tails. So in the end, the blessing wouldn’t suddenly grant them a tail. Keep in mind that Cenarius is also a demi-god: the son of a Wild God and a Pantheon of Life member. A blessing from a lesser entity like Goldrinn is less likely to even result in any physical changes. Varian was Goldrinns chosen and for all intents and purposes was blessed by him. Varian had no physical changes. You also can’t say that sustained absorption of nature/life energy from a Worgen might grant them a tail. We’ve seen the original worgen during Legion, the ones that were trapped inside the Dream for years and surrounded by nature/life energy, and they remained without a tail.

-sigh-

While I’ll admit the Reclamation was kind of lackluster overall, it was fine. Just fine, though. Not really exceptional, and definitely not great.

I’m pretty neutral on the whole thing for now hinging on the hope that Gilneas will receive more updates in the future and that this is just stage 1. Maybe we’ll get our Flight Path/Portals/ect a little later on down the line as the rebuilding continues.

Could just be wishful thinking but that’s where I’m at right now. I hope they’re not done with Gilneas as-is.

As for the rest… I really don’t understand why so many people have chosen “WORGEN NEED TAILS” as their hill to die on. They never had them and it’s not a huge deal. I say this as an actual furry lmao

Pandaren never had red panda tails before MoP.

One of these things is not like the other thing.

Before Mist, we only had a couple of Panderan to base anything off of. The same can’t be said about Worgen.

We also had all of the art from Samwise and all the Pandaren were just pandas. Of course, Blizzard doesn’t need a reason to give worgen tails. It can’t be a lore reason because they’ve shown time and time again that lore is subject to change on a whim to suit the needs of the game. “Worgen never had tails” is completely meaningless. They can just retcon it.

Before Cata we only had 2 models of Worgen to go by: the classic one and the one from Wrath. Neither of which looked anything, anywhere, anyhow like the female Worgen that we initially got or the female Worgen we now have, or had any feminine features at all really.
And that was established, in-game, World of Warcraft content.

I was going to make a comment about that OP posting modded screenshots but I forgot and now that I remembered they have removed those screenshots and so this is the comment instead.
