Its not coming back, nor should it, and people need to get over it. The Mage Tower was out for a year and 4 months and Blizzard gave 9+ months notice that it was going to be removed in 8.0. Its not coming back just like how past Elite PvP sets, MoP Challenge Mode Sets, and WoD Challenge Mode Weapons are not coming back. If you guys want different forms, ask blizzard for original ones instead of whining that its not fair that you can’t go back and earn what others worked for before it was gone.
I have multiple guildies that by the end of legion were able to get the challenge appearance for every spec in the game, with average play time, because that’s how trivial it was at the end. There was even a decent amount of time when the Mage Tower was up constantly, instead of going down after 3 days. If you didn’t play for the last year and a half of legion or couldn’t manage to get just the Cat or Bear form by 8.0 you have no one to blame but yourself.
Normally I’d agree, but this is a special case because there are actually two separate issues here.
Keeping mage tower rewards special is fine. Let the people who did it back in Legion have their fancy transmogs. If you missed out, sucks for you, but that’s life.
On the other hand though, druid forms are can’t be directly compared to weapon skins. The bear is a completely new model (for druids, anyway.) Druids already have pretty limited transmog options so locking an entirely new form away from the vast majority of players feels pretty bad. In this case I’d be okay with Blizz letting other people access the form. Just don’t let them have the Mage Tower colors.
Really I think Blizz messed this up from the get go. The Mage Tower and Balance of Power looks should have swapped places.
So the argument I see cropping up over and over is that exclusivity is OK, but since the new Guardian/Feral forms are extra awesome, they shouldn’t be exclusive. I concede that new Druid forms are few and far between, and thus highly desirable. I don’t think that makes “it’s OK if its exclusive unless it’s something I want” a good argument.
For the record, I’m not against the forms returning with variations, recolors, etc. in the future. I just think Blizzard needs to honor their word here.
Druids aren’t an exceptional case here because the forms are extra awesome, they’re exceptional because while every other class who wasn’t there is missing out on the weapon skins, druids are missing out on the weapon skins and unique forms.
The weapon skins should have been kept exclusive just like every other mage tower weapon skin, but the forums should have remained accessible in the way that warlocks’ green fire is still accessible. It doesn’t feel quite right to be disproportionately disadvantaged compared to the other classes. The treatment should be consistent.
I still maintain that losing a druid form isn’t equivalent to losing a weapon skin though… but maybe it is sort of fair. Druids disproportionately benefited from completing the mage tower and now we’re disproportionately losing out in its absence.
Feels crappy but it is what it is, I guess. I don’t care that I’m missing a dagger skin on my rogue but I do care that I’m missing an entire form appearance on my druid.
Not if they have cleared it. People will remain subbed as long as they can for whatever reasons they want. Sometimes one gets burned out on the game or sometimes it is not financially viable. I got both of those going for me at times with WoW numerous times, including Legion.
And right now, they’re needing people to have a reason to stay subbed more than they did at this point in Legion.
I get it, people want more exclusive druid forms, and I’m not saying that blizzard didn’t mess up when they made the druid skins, but it’s still like all the other mogs and was exclusive and is now gone. It should remain that way, but knowing Blizzard in their infinite wisdom they will probably bring it back for all your cry baby children who all deserve a trophy for NOT even playing during legion.
I get it, crap happens. Financially people can’t afford to play, you don’t have time, blah blah blah. But guess what, if you can’t afford to buy that 60,000 BMW you’ve always wanted, someone doesn’t just make it available for cheaper. You miss out on that brand new BMW. You could always get a used one down the road, if you know what I mean… My point is exclusive is good and gives people a reason to TRY at the game. If you didn’t get it, sucks to suck, maybe just make a case for new skins, but that skin whether amazing or not, should NEVER be accessible again to plebs. #sorryNotSorry.
Oddly enough, I don’t see anyone asking for the attempt to be weakened, just the opportunity to be available. Interestingly enough, I never had a chance to raid Molten Core till Wrath, then my account was hacked and I pretty much lost everything I built up to then. Since then, I’ve soloed many of the old expansion’s raids, and even soloed Emerald Nightmare and Nighthold on this character to unlock the 3rd Artifact skin.
The Mage Tower was time-gated due to a lack of will to adjust more than anything else.
And your last sentence there comes off as unapologetically elitist.
As it was meant to. Not everyone gets a trophy, that’s the main point of my post. People have changed a lot and these days everyone thinks they “deserve” everything. If you didn’t’ earn it, you don’t deserve it.
@Robobawk brings up a good point as well.
This ^^ all day. You had ample time to complete these activities, and if life got in the way for that long, it just wasn’t meant to be. Sorry my friend.
And that’s fine. The problem with them keeping the Mage Tower around in a new expansion is that everything changes. Personnel were rewarded in Legion for completing the mage tower and it was exclusive to that expansion. If Mage Tower was available now, think about how different it would be? Some classes have different skills and abilities, some lost a lot of tools and abilities from artifacts, and now we have different sets of loaner powers in Azerite traits and Essences.
It’s like saying that fighting in the Vietnam War and Iraq 2015 are the same thing, because they are both a war. They are FAR from the same thing, even though they are both wars…
And this is nice? But what does it have to do with the topic? Raids, at this point in time aren’t exclusive content. Now I don’t raid, but I do think that players who achieve Heroic and Mythic during the content being “relevant” should be rewarded uniquely. Do i love some of the previous Mythic transmogs? Hell yes i do, but as of now there’s nothing preventing players from going back and farming those Mythic sets. The only thing this pertains to is Elite PvP sets. I’m not saying that it’s fair, but life isn’t fair.
There’s a difference between recognizing not everyone gets the trophy and being an elitist snob about the situation.
Did I? You know so much about my life that you know I had enough time to complete this activity? What other omniscient declarations shall you make oh lordly one?
But it didn’t start out that way. That was a decision made later on. And Blizzard has changed their minds on things if enough people ask for it. You know, “you think you do, but you don’t”.
It is about content that was open that was part of that old expansion. It’s not closed off just because it is no longer present or immediately pertinent.
Says the person who still hasn’t caught on as to why I did in the first place.
Is there though? I’m not being elitist, you just weren’t around for the content, so you don’t get the reward. There is no demanding that you should get access to something you weren’t actively engaged in when it was available. Now you want to crap all over other players who put in the time and effort to play the game when this even was out.
You want people to be sympathetic to your cause yet your taking a large dump on other peoples opinions when you say things like, “it should be available again”. There are a lot of people that completed the Mage Tower and put hours and hours of their free time into it.
Did you not read the whole post? “If life got in the way for that long, it just wasn’t mean tot be.” clearly you missed that part. Look man, it sucks to miss things, even in a video game, but that’s life, it isn’t fair and crap happens. It just means when the next “special” event in wow comes out, you will try your best to be available for it.
So this tells me that you knew the mage tower was out, even before Blizzard stated it would go away, and you just chose not to do it when it was relevant? Where you hoping you could just wait till another expansion when it would be easy?
My point clearly went over your head here. Old raids have NEVER been exclusive content. Meaning you could always go back and farm previous tier sets. That’s why this doesn’t make sense for you to bring up. It would be different if they had been locked out after the expansion they were relevant and then one day Blizz was like, “now you can go back into older raids and farm gear”. But that’s not the case, they have NEVER been closed after the expansion was relevant.
Your term of “pleb” is what makes you elitist. The “I got it at the time, so no one else should get it after it shut down the first time,” is also what makes you elitist.
False and incorrect. I advocated for it without making any claims for sympathy. I only mentioned not getting after being questioned on it and stated why I didn’t. I still have made no claims for sympathy. This is when I started accusing people of elitism when they started making these accusations.
I did. Apparently you didn’t bother to understand the response.
Incorrect, and I’ve stated otherwise. Try again after doing some proper research.
More my point went over yours or you simply do not care. Considering your otherwise elitist attitude, I know which it is.
