I swear, these people whinging that Classic isn’t enough like retail are just like people going into a vegan restaurant and getting upset because they don’t have burgers on the menu.

2: We’ve gone over this at great length already. Ion is referring to things which automate the group finding process (like LFD and LFR do). ClassicLFG is just an interface for viewing ads, it CANNOT form a functional group for you.

He said there was no auto-matchmaking back in June. He’s disabling the auto-invite and I can’t find him making any claim that there was no auto-invite. Nomenclature is important, matchmaking implies it would invite based on roles like LFG does.

No, he didn’t. What the author said was that matchmaking was not a feature, and he’s right. Auto-invite was a feature and he has since admitted it wasn’t a good idea to allow in dungeon/raid ads and removed it, but as I and others have repeatedly said, auto-invite is not the same as matchmaking.
Do not misunderstand me, I do not want auto-invite in at all myself, but do not pretend it’s the same as LFD/LFR. The guy who made that video planned it out ahead of time, he had people download the addon and watch for him to post it so that they could join and make a group.
Auto-invite accepts the first people to request an invitation. That’s it. You have four Survival hunters request an invite first? Your group is full now and it’s you with four Survival hunters who could be any level from 1 (10, I guess, if they have any talents in a tree) and 60. How far do you think that group is going to go?
Even with this obvious lack of usefulness in the feature, he still admitted it was too close to the LFD system and took it out. When the community said “hey this isn’t what we want” the guy said “you know, you’re right, I made a mistake” and fixed it.
Do you seriously think it’s fair to make it sound like he’s orchestrating some cover up? This is precisely what we should be encouraging: addon authors who listen to what people have to say and remove things that could be abused before Blizzard even gets involved.
As others have mentioned, if this addon does get banned, people will find something else, including going to a third party app/site if they have to. Because, as much as I loved vanilla, the group finding process sucked if you had to pug. Your messages were drowned out too easily, no guarantee people who might want to join would see it.
If a tool like this is going to be used, I’d personally rather it be by an author that we can trust to listen to us when we say something’s a problem, and who actively seeks to prevent any negative impact on the game, than some random third party we don’t know.

Oh yeah, for sure. He comes in high and mighty and 90% of the time ends up saying something foolish or being incredibly wrong. He then backs out without a word and moves onto the next topic to troll.

If someone is spamming LFG UBRS the addon will scrape the message from chat and show it in the addon regardless if they are using the addon or not. This will only gain popularity unless blizzard bans or restricts something.
I wouldn’t mind a LFG board where people can write that they are looking for. but the automated invite is going to far!
Yeah I watched that stream. Seems like they wouldn’t have a problem with ClassicLFG since it just improves interface and doesn’t automate gameplay.

agreed, the addon seems great. The “no changes” stuff is pretty silly.
Actually, that’s not even necessary because the LFG channel, which is /4 by default, is world-wide. You can look for groups without being in IF.
However, I don’t think that’s justification for some of the automation that this addon is capable of performing.
Collating and presenting chat message in a user-friendly format is one-thing. Allowing you to push 1 button and get an instant party is another.
The devs aren’t even on at 23:30.

Yeah you could use /4 then you cant go inspect the guys coming with you or you get some rando out in Silithis that’s like “ill head out once the group is formed”.
