ROFL… come now stop joshing us… LOL
Depending on what they break to stop these particularly, you’re looking at breaking guild/raid management add-ons that were staples of Vanilla as well as anything that touches the Inspect command. I can probably live without the Inspect API changes if they just impact my ability to look at players from further away without any stat totals tallied up, but if they break auto-invites such that I can’t just hit a button to invite all 40 raiders on raid night… LOL congrats to the whiners who wanted an “authentic” Vanilla experience that is anything but.
Speaking as someone that joined between BC and Wrath? I think this was the right call for Classic in that from my short time with Classic (level 5), I have noticed a greater amount of players interacting with one another and trying to help one another.
In retail what typically happens with LFG, LFR, etc. is you queue up, do the dungeon and that’s it. There is no real chance to foster lasting in game friendships with the people you meet. It’s all about get in, get out. That’s what retail has become. Blizzard I think made that choice because of people growing up, gaining new responsibilities but I do think there is a desire for the way Classic used to be and LFG is counter productive to that kind of social interaction that was vital in vanilla.
I don’t think this is the right approach either. There is a difference between say a LFG addon and something like a UI enhancement addon. To be quite honest the default WoW UI leaves a lot to be desired. I use a number of addons like bartender, sexymap, bagon, titanpanel, and move anything to customize my UI to suit me. It makes my screen less cluttered and my eyes have less screen real estate to travel as I moved everything to the bottom.
You then have other addons like My Roleplay which are not like LFG. My Roleplay allows players to create backstories for their characters and for those roleplayers that have the addon installed they can view others profiles, etc. It enhances social interaction among like minded players rather than discouraging it by way of a automated system/queue as LFG does.
It’s that it kind of goes against the nature of the social experience of classic. As I noted above the LFG and LFR systems in retail kind of play out in this fashion. You hit the queue button, enter the dungeon, smack the boss, pop out. And move on with the rest of your day. There is no real incentive or encouragement to form lasting in game friendships or a in game network of contacts to engage in content with. Not when you can do so in such a passive manner. A LFG addon would just be bringing retails existing lacking social interaction to classic. It’s also something the classic community has clearly indicated they don’t really want. If Blizzard truly thought the community wanted it or thought it was good for Classic? They would have implemented such a feature. Again I say that as someone that joined between BC and Wrath so jumping into classic it was a bit of a culture shock realizing that mobs are no longer shared tags as they are now which if I am not mistaken was a fairly recent change in retail? 2016 iirc?
Being optional is irrelevant. The fact it exists would be like the path of least resistance which is what we have in retail now. The thing is classic is designed to be a very specific recreation of the experience of vanilla as it was originally as closely as possible (with some slight concessions obviously). You didn’t have things like Twitch or Discord or years of experience with the game back then.
it’s cool, not like anyone will be playing this here in the coming weeks
Then you need to ban the use of Discord groups that serve the same function…
Oh wait you can’t, so those players who don’t want to use garbage social media tools like Discord get shafted instead.
thank you blue post master i agree completely… these kind of add-ons harm the sense of community we’re trying to build.
This addons is functioning as a glorified chat channel, it automates nothing and works similar to the old official Guild Finder, how exactly are you going to kill this one too without breaking the most simple API functions that will destroy dozens of other unrelated mods? Suddenly several perfectly functional mods entirely unrelated to group finding broke when you killed the last API function.
There is nothing more or less emergent about this addon, you seem to have a completely made up idea of what it does or are confusing it with the prior addon that was banned.
Me putting “Rogue 23 Deadmines” into an addon list that someone sees and invites me for is no different from me putting “DPG LFG VC” in general chat and getting invited. Either way I was someone you didn’t know existed, you saw my name and invited. You people have downright delusional parallel universes existing in your minds that pretend every action has a billion times more meaning because your nostalgia says so.
Some lack the broader minds to see the full consequences in time. This goes way beyond just the initial ‘invite’ stage.
Blizzard understand it; most players understand it.
Play Classic the way it is designed, or do not.
Making it easier to find a group does take away from the Classic experience, this is true. However, nobody likes spending hours on end trying to pull a group together. Nobody.
The biggest issue with the current retail LFG functionality is that people can group together across realms and are effectively anonymous to each other. You walk in a stranger and you leave a stranger and thus people act accordingly.
In Classic, everybody started out as strangers, and unless people settled into guilds or friends, the realm was large enough that you could continue to walk in as a stranger. But it was hard to walk out as strangers, because grouping is within the same realm. So if you decide to be a loot ninja, people can better keep an eye out for you, broadcast to others, blacklist you, etc.
IMO having a LFG system restricted to only pulling people in from the same realm wouldn’t really diminish the classic experience. This would allow people to find groups faster, which yes, helps remove the negative Classic experience of finding groups, but IMO will also preserve the positive Classic experience of making people more accountable for their actions by removing their effective anonymity.
My 2 cents, anyways.
So far, my predictions have been right: Spamming Trade: LF1M =/= Community
All chat is becoming is LFM spam. It’s constantly flooded in Org all day and night with LFM/LFG.
Oh I’'m sorry, you’d rather have some very polite and meaningful religious or political conversations? How about some Chuck Norris jokes?
I know it’s inconvenient to see people actually searching for groups in chant even if that’s how it was always done. Your little pet LFG addon is dead, get over it pal.
Nah, it will be back. It’s just not going to have an autoinvite feature, which is fine.
Dream on buddy. We dwarves don’t need no stinking LFG anything. We need BEER.
i don’t see anyone not using it because of this. lots of groups all day every day.
There were addons in vanilla, people are already complaining about the game although there are plenty of quality of life updates already that weren’t there at the launch of vanilla, I’d be in the starter area making casuals lives miserable if they weren’t.
Yeah no free gear for logging in for 30 minutes and afking world quests, I don’t mind the queue but I do wish the participation reward tourists would just realize they’re going to quit before hitting 60 and those that make it to 60 will only be leveling or rep grinding cause there’s nothing else to do outside of raid/dungeon/bgs which apparently they don’t like doing.
Now just remove the track cast bars and cooldowns of your enemy addons. CAUSE ITS CHEATING. knowing information the game doesnt provide such as when I used my kick down to the very second it comes off cd or in classics case not seeing a cast using something that tracks casts is directly cheating.
No one else will be doing bgs/raids/dungeons either because there won’t be enough people to
necro post. mute and be done with it
