People need to understand this specific addon is hated because it attacks the very CORE of Classic’s appeal.
Unlike Retail the Classic experience was hugely about emergent and organic open world social interactions.
The state of Retail now - as in it being so different as to be unrecognisable in terms of MMO aspects - is entirely because of convenience in hastening grouping up and that kind of thing.
ClassicLFG most certainly will dramatically change how groups are initiated, and yes, the initial interactions are very important indeed. It will obvious, so obviously, change how people approach grouping. So many people will come to depend on it - because people have always slid into the path of least resistance, even when they don’t really want to - it will become standard.
It’s about how people think and approach these things. Going through the vanilla mindset of ‘Well, I can ask in guild’ ‘I’ll look about see if there’s someone nearby’ ‘I’ll go back to town’ 'I’ll type in LFG (and maybe some emergent new thing can happen thanks to that broadcast ‘I can help you do that, but I’m doing another quest right now’ and you agree to help them do that one first) or even you choose to do it later.
It sounds counter-intuitive but not being able to do things actually can be a good thing. Having to wait to fight this big nasty elite instead of knowing “Well, i’ll just bring up the LFG tool and it’ll be dead no worries.” is hardly intimidating.
Like asking for Cata dungeon HC nerfs, people never think ahead and look at the whole picture. instead it’s ‘Well this is inconvenient so make it more convenient because convenience is good.’

What I really don’t get about this is the anti-addon crusade that has formed. I totally agree that classiclfg doesnt fit classic, that’s true. But addons in general are an important part of classic for a lot of people, and for the most part they aren’t harmful, not like auto-matchmaking in classiclfg could be.
Don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater
No.
This was inspired by the LFG tool that exists in Retail in the first place; not some freshly thought out original idea.
Blizzard’s response to the Developer is politically correct - but we, the players, do not need to be as constrained in our assessment.
You realize I responded to a post that was saying they want certain players to quit there game right? You realize that wanting players to quit a game you want to be successful is actually insane right?
Actually its not. Would you want someone on you baseball team if he is thowing spit balls constantly at your pitcher and catcher while they are trying to throw and catch the ball during a game?
The answer would be a NOOOOO… so why would you want players who constantly want to toss spitballs into the game your playing and enjoying?
Not much difference in that analogy than someone coming into classic and wanting it to be more like retail… Can you not see that?
Classic will need a good sized playerbase to be successful and encourage Blizzard to move forward with the project. Can you not see that?
It already does… once you factor in all the retailers that will be leaving you are still going to be left with 1-1.5 million subs just for classic… and thats a low guess in my opinion. I really wish they would post sub numbers since they announced the making of classic… That would be such an interesting number to see.
good for blizz… Rely on your guild and guild mates.
and friends list.
It’s hilarious when people just pull numbers completely out of thin air.
Good guy Bornakk, thank you so much
Well guys LF 3 dps and 1 healer for Rage fire chasm xD
Huh, guess Blizzard decided you were wrong. Sucks to suck, eh?
Umm the addon will still work exactly the way the creator intended? What are you on about?
Sure it will. : )
It’ll work as intended for a couple of weeks. Apparently, you missed Blizzard’s post about severely limiting the functionality of LFG add-ons.
“After careful examination, we believe the nature of ClassicLFG is incompatible with our social design for Classic. Thus, in an upcoming patch (in the weeks following launch), we will be adding restrictions to the Classic add-on API that will significantly limit this add-on and others like it.”
Straight from Bornakk. No auto-invites, no gear viewer. Doesn’t sound like “as intended” to me.
As far as i know blizzard will put priority on the classic experience, even if that means changing the API even more…
What do you believe the intention of the addon was? It was never intended to make PvE dungeon and raid groups auto invite, that was only there for large scale PvP and guild raid invites…
And the gear viewer wasn’t for judging gear score but merely put what role you want to perform…
You are deliberately misrepresenting what this addon wanted to do. Here is the update from the creator himself to verify exactly what I’m saying.
@everyone Version 1.0.0 has been released!
Talent Synchronization:
The original intend for this feature was to figure out the role the player is going to perform in a group. As pointed out by many this could be abused and often is not a correct assessment of the actual role the player is going to perform. In the next bigger update Talent Sharing will be removed entirely and replaced with a new System with which players can set their role on their own. For now the following adjustments have been made:
- Talent Sharing can be disabled in the settings
- If when Talent Sharing is turned on, it will not display how the talents in each tree are spent.
To clarify here as there are some misconceptions going around: There is no talent inspection in Classic and the data used here is only available if both players do have the ClassicLFG and Talent Sharing turned on!
Auto Invite:
There has been a huge backlash on this specific feature. The original intend of this feature was to enable opening up big raid groups for World Events like PvP. It did not have any logic integrated into it and invited the first players that reached out to you similar to raid utility addons that invite people based on certain keywords. For now the feature has been fully removed, but might be back in a later version, depending on the upcoming changes to the ingame API. There will be a restriction on it, which only invites players from your friend list or guild.
Invite Message:
The possibility to have a preset invite message has been removed so each message and note is written manually by players.
No one cares. Blizzard made the decision. Ban all addons next!
