EDIT2: Alright, after reviewing their addon ToS, I guess they can pressure people to stop making an addon, with legal action, if necessary. I will respect that and not try to help make it work around any API changes. It’s not worth THAT kind of trouble lol…
It’s old, but I assume it’s still the same today:
EDIT: So Blizzard claims they are going to try to break this addon, but I don’t see how they can effectively do so without breaking many other addons such as DBM and damage meters. The only functionality they can likely remove is the ability for an addon to send an invite. It will still likely have the functionality to produce a list of people that you would then have to manually send the invite to.
People are blowing all this LFG addon stuff way out of proportion. Back during Vanilla, there was already an addon that mostly performed this: Call to Arms. You didn’t hear people up in arms about that because it wasn’t a big deal…
An LFG addon is not going to break a community. It’s going to remove an insane amount of spam in chat. Servers are going to be HUGE compared to what they were in vanilla. Devs recently stated that what used to be a high pop realm would now be considered a low pop realm on modern servers. Picture the endless flood of LFG spam in trade…
I don’t see why people think that spamming for hours equates to a community because it doesn’t… You aren’t communicating anything meaningful other than blocking the people who are actually trying to chat, from doing so because it just gets washed right off the chat box in seconds.

Why do people care about how other people play the game? That’s the real question.
Thats not a slight at you, btw. I’m saying why do people give a crap if you use the addon or not.

Cta didn’t come out till I believe patch 1.11 so hardly much of classic. Also wasn’t All that well known, don’t remember seeing much of any lfg addons until tbc when they started popping up mostly for premade bgs. If anything maybe the servers shouldn’t be as large as they are. But that ones on blizzard for just assuming classic will fail sooner rather then later and those numbers will plummet.

Control issues most likely.

We are on 1.12, so this doesn’t matter. It could have been done earlier in the game too. The API was already there for it. A need surfaced and addon developers responded.

I’m replying to the fact that you make it seem like cta was out for a majority of classic and no one had a problem with it then. When In fact most people didn’t even know what it was back then.

You probably didn’t play vanilla or aren’t thinking hard enough to understand why “spam lfm in trade isnt community!!” is a crap argument.
You actively seek friends, guild, and acquaintances to avoid having to resort to spaming LFM in trade. You are encouraged to socialize and interact with other humans and make friends and connections so you can get groups more easily.
Addons/LFG simply make it so you DON’T have to make friends or seek out guilds/friendships because a program does it for you. This creates anti-social behavior and makes it harder to make friends because less people are seeking them as they are not needed.
LFG/addons that automate LFG are bad.

Spamming LF1M UBRS need healer isn’t what builds community but the overall act of needing to manually form groups is something that does.
The act of automating it makes people care less about the people they’re grouping with, which diminishes the community aspect of the game.

The issue is more of automation. It’s bringing automation to a thing that has communication as part of the trade. It’s basicly a step away from LFD.

150 days /played and was in some of the top 50 guilds worldwide… Ran hundreds and hundreds of dungeons and raids… I think I know what I’m talking about.
Spamming LF TANK UBRS for an hour is not making friends…
You guys are acting like you can’t still use the LFG addon to meet people and then befriend them… Then maybe after you make more friends, you won’t need to even use the addon.

People are in for a shock when it takes an hour of /whispers ‘hey man wanna tank this dungeon’ to actually form a group.

Yeah, it can get pretty horrible after a while. It’s almost as bad as trying to find a M+ group, as a dps, a lot of the time lol…

Lol, wow, look at the tourists fighting for some semblance of dungeon finder in Classic WoW.
No.
Thanks for stopping by. Be sure to quit early and alleviate the queues for the rest of us since this game is going to be “so unbearable”.

Would it really be the WoW Classic forums if people didn’t blow things out of proportion and resort to personal attacks instead of civil debates?

Making friends, getting in a guild and building a community will still end up being a faster way to make a better group than sitting for an hour and letting an addon spam for you. The community will be fine.

Except I probably played vanilla more than you did… Not only was I in the closed beta for months, I started on day 1, had multiple accounts at the same time, cleared every single raid instance including Naxx (during actual vanilla and not pirate servers or during later expansions), hit R14 on a shaman and R11 on this hunter, obtained the epic hunter bow/staff/quiver, etc etc.
I’m sorry, but who’s the casual tourist again?

The need only surfaced because of certain peoples dimished player reputation on a realm resulting in them being avoided when they were lfg’s.
The system was working as intended, then those negative types got sick of facing the repercussions of thier actions and thus sought to bypass the problem.
Those who’s conduct was above reproach had no need for a lfg addon, as it will be in Classic.

Scenario 1: you take forever to finally find that 1 missing puzzle piece (lf tank/heals).
They are good at what they do. To save yourself time in the future, you become friends and help each other out here and there.
Scenario 2: You automate everything, go get a bagel, when you get back your group is full, you do the dungeon, then everyone leaves no one ever says anything.
I prefer scenario 1 in an MMORPG

You might have to actually make some friends or use your guild. The addon circumvents these things.

almost no one used that addon, lol.
