Classic WoW is killing Retail WoW

Not exactly sure on the specific numbers since they stopped sharing those numbers – but in terms of server status & the amounts of servers – It’s clear to see that one dwarfs the size of the other.

So you did, apologies.
Needless to say though - I did agree with that notion of your text about the zones having many enjoyable visual features. That being said however, Shadowlands felt very cramped - which they mentioned in their Q&A was apparently a very expressed opinion and worked on making Dragonflight zones more spacious.

In terms of raw amount of servers – there’s more populated amounts in Classic than Retails. This has been seen over the due course period over the pass few weeks, and there’s even been articles shared about it.

However as I’ve stated – aside from Shadowlands many faults being a large reason at play for the dwindling playerbase, there’s also a large lack-luster of content in retail at the moment, so its not all too surprising people are diving to something else more desirable for entertainment.

When ‘Dragonflight’ launches — despite what the pro-classic players would insist or like to believe, I’m sure the scales will reverse in the server statuses & retail will reign supreme.

Hahaha or, it could be because there was a

  1. mount promotion that required retail players to log into to wraith and level a dk
  2. we’re in a maintenance season while we wait for DF
  3. new class talents are already on the ptr so people are there checking out the changes
  4. all of the above

Played classic long enough to get the mount, and honestly barely made it. Horribly boring.

And pvp wise…for some it will have new content. for some like me I too can learn of a place called strands of the ancients. I was not there the first time.

Why I do classic. A new BG…heard its not balanced. I shall see. People say tbcc AV is unbalanced. Alliance wins all the time! I wish. Never underestimate alliance’s abilty to pull defeat from the jaws of victory.

But it is new. it will have that.

also came for more open wintergrasp but alas no more. at least I will be all warmed up for instanced WG. that I know quite well from retail lol.

I agree with most of this but I’m going to add my thoughts on this last bit, I think a lot of WoW’s current playerbase, and this is the big problem with the mindset of the playerbase and the design structure of the game itself. A lot of players want to play but only on their terms and on their own time, which there’s nothing wrong with at all. Except they forget it’s an MMO so when things are already done for most of the playerbase and the feet draggers finally decide to work up the motivation to play, there’s nobody left and then proceed to complain incessantly.

WoW is a seasonal game, people need to play it like one. Or players need to demand Blizzard change the seasonal nature of it which would require a lot of work from the ground up. This is the pitfall with the game being only as big as the latest expansion/content patch. FFXIV on the other hand doesn’t suffer as bad from content droughts between expansions because the old stuff stays somewhat relevant. It isn’t like the ores and stuff become worthless the second the new expansion rolls over, or treasure maps, or primal crafting materials, etc. That’s when most people start doing those things so while there’s a decline in players objectively, you hardly see it to the degree you do in WoW.

That look too cartoony and dont capture teh Warcraft essence. Whats with the Gummi bear bounce when they run?

Whats in Retail that isnt in WotLK?

Graphically better yes, but more charming? Nah. Only more generic. Bastion sucked. Aldenweald was boring. Maldfraxxis was meh. Revendreth was good.

Some are good but some arent. I like Classic.

Meh. I guess. Doesnt really matter in Classic WoW.

Hate it and glad its not part of Classic WoW. Classic players actually play Alliance so there is no need.

Classic WoW > retail by a mile

Yea, because you got them nostalgia goggles on tight, I too wear a pair… if we were given both choices right now with no prior history, 99% are taking retail wow. Deny it all you want.

If Classic is killing Retail, why did Blizzard feel the need to bribe Retail players with a mount to go play a couple of hours through the DK starting questline and waiving the original must have a level 55+ character requirement?

Why bribe us at all?

Why remove TBCC capped servers?

Truthfully, they are bribing us with a cool mount for one or two hour of our time in wrath classic and if you don’t like it you may return to retail and collect your cool mount.

But in all honesty they just want us to try it out if we like it or not but who knows how people will play it.

Oh really you can deny all you like but you can’t deny the mount looking awesome and better in design than say slime cat.

why would i care about a mount that has nothing to do with me

Only on the immediate. Once players realized Retail is all flashy with no actual substantive gameplay for the long term, but the people on Wrath were having a blast they’d pop over as well. It’s exactly what happened with Classic where people were seeing more fun being had on the “old and dated” version of the game than the modern one so they went there instead as well.

But I mean, that’s obvious when your options are:

  1. Hey this one expects you to work a bit and you might have to actually engage with people to get anywhere.

  2. Hey this game holds your hand and leveling is super fast and you can basically play it like a single player game without any interaction, also it’s super flashy.

Except we’re talking about an actual fact right now. How many people are playing Shadowlands? It’s the newest version of WoW so it should be the best right? Wait, why is it that when BFA was out 53% according to Superdata of subscribers EXCLUSIVELY played Classic? Surely it’s newer so better yeah?

What’s wrong being it a solo play in an MMO the old MMO style is dead and the new MMO style is about the world having players and you get to play solo and all by yourself in a hybrid game solo/group.

LOL.

Dude, facts? Not in the slightest… who you think is playing classic right now? A bunch of new players? So tell me, what fact have you stated? I’ve seen none so far… take off the goggles.

Only for WoW, and that is ironically what is killing the current game is the full on departure of MMO elements they took for granted. Flashy animations and art only gets you so far, in an MMO you need friends or a social group, they’ve always been this way. Except now you don’t develop any as you play because there’s no point to and most players you’ll meet in just generic play aren’t really focused on it either. No chatting or friendliness.

I remember in CATACLYSM we used to mock SWTOR when it was coming out as “Not an MMO, it’s a singleplayer game with optional multiplayer functionality.” Oh how times have changed.

About the only MMO not completely destroyed in “the new MMO style” is FFXIV because they found out how to blend things rather than remove one.
