Classic WoW is killing Retail WoW

All of this! I kick myself for logging on each day… it’s a great idea to stop playing and take a break prior to Dragonflight to prevent any burnout.

I’m about to log into WoTLK just because I’m getting tired of running M+ for very minimal reward. I don’t want to run SotF for the millionth time. I guess it would help if there was a better dungeon cycle but meh.

Reward wise classic such a strange place. Wanting to go get gear while leveling is basically an alien concept in retail. Then getting the gear to drop is a very tricky bit of the game, I out leveled SFK by trying to get Arugal to drop his gear before.

TBH I can’t wait for the talent trees and changes. Demo and destro feel soooooo fun! The new abilities are a blast I’m just happy ATM to know what I’ll be maining though def gonna have a drakthyr and rogue for alts

Classic is terribly buggy. Once I got my mount, I have some rando 32 gold and dipped. Character deleted. Classic isn’t killing retail. There were barely anyone on when I was finishing up the mount quests.

I mean retail is trash what’d you expect?

I mean, you’re comparing the worst ever expansion released to date with the most popular expansion ever released. Classic isn’t killing wow, bad developers are killing wow.

Why not join in on the fun and play classic? It’s where everyone is going to be until DF prepatch

Less people means less competition to tame rare hunter pets

Besides the game attendance already dropped since people went back to school., finished getting their slime cat than unsubbed until DF or just quit all together.

There is a lack of players because you’re on Bloodhoof, who the heck even plays on that server?

I did to get my frost drake and that was all I could stand of classic I didn’t like how it looked and am used to retail thank you but no thanks I am content in retail by all means have a blast playing the game you enjoy.

We are all playing WOW no matter the version.

lol.

if they’d give top tier armour for honor only they’d lure me back.

A week of work, av spam till my eyes bled…full brutal with guardian accessories. Yay me! if I get my DK 70’d this week…AV it will be again.

retail…you must be in the arena. for gear that will be trash 2 hours into DF.

classic you get brutal to be golden till about level 75. 5 levels of crap greens to sell or disenchant? yes please. Hell some of the lower sets are nice too. In theory…brutal is not even BIS for some folks. they’d want say vengeful.

You can list your own key, or join a key as a solo player. I dont see the issue.

Retail

  1. High resolution character models

  2. Quality of Life and accessibility features

  3. Better looking zones (warlords to shadowlands)

  4. New Casting Animation

  5. Accountwide features

  6. Cross-Faction play

Classic

Literally nothing….

Because Shadowlands sucks.

There’s the few people on the forums that ignorantly tried argue the lack-of-players wasn’t because of the many aspects in Shadowlands sucking, but because of various other reasons like much more competition or unrelated events — yet if that were the case, WoWs sub numbers wouldn’t had soared so high they reached Server-Capacity on their classic servers with the coming of Wrath. Huh’ – Guess ‘Tiffany’ was wrong with all her silly conclusions to the dying playerbase; who’d have thought?

That being said, retail is also currently sitting in a content drought phase with not all that much to strive for – so the dying playerbase would have only got worse than it has been for awhile …

— ‘Wrath of the Lich King’ still had good fantasy tropes nailed down & lots of wiggle room for story potential & roleplaying – and has plenty of group content & inspirations to do so (mount achievements, titles and more!), with the inclusion of many various solo-player-activities to do for the casuals who only rather like to do minimal group content as well.

Wrath covers a broad spectrum of the key playerbases:

  • Lorefans / Roleplayers,
  • Hardcore players & group content players
  • Along with solo-players & the casuals.

It’s not all too surprising to determine why many held the expansion in high regard as one of the best they’d enjoyed.

Combat rogue.

1000 times better than what that crap they call outlaw is. and one of my main retail rogues is outlaw lol.

Imagine a consistent application of power throughout the entire rotation. Classic combat…you don’t have to. Its reality.

then I hop on the outlaw and go roll the bones, I did not miss you. Not one bit…

Retail has features that are good from an interface / system design improvements – objectively.

But subjectively I’d say it’s severely lacking.

I find it ironic you use two of the worse-time expansions for WoWs playerbase as examples – but I would agree they have great zones that are sorely underappreciated despite the expansions many faults …

And yet, it’s numbers of active players & server population – are dwarfing retail at the moment.

Hopefully Blizzard can learn, listen and act upon the enjoyable features in Classic and revive them into retail - restoring the magic that’s been lost in the game …

Really by how many more people? 2 million, 5 million, 10 million?

Also, I didn’t say only warlords and shadowlands I said warlords to shadowlands which covers warlords , legion, BFA, AND shadowlands.

Plus the only server that are being long waited are mega server or big/large servers but sure believe that classic is far more popular and superior than say retail.

I don’t think classic is killing retail. I think its probably a content drought. Prople like myself who really enjoyed wotlk (played every xpac) just liked how much there was to always do. Arena was super fun. Instead of waiting for 1-2 minutes to do any form of actual damage and see big numbers, in WOTLK your class feels powerful every moment. People who missed the hype of the return of Arthas want to see what the commotion was all about. I mean we’re talking 11.5 million subs in 2008 (china servers were offline for migration). That number is insane, pc gaming was no where near as big as it has grown in the last 5 years. It was the equivalent to when Fortnite took over the globe. It was peak Blizzard in terms of design and world design too. Northrend is still my favorite island in wow history. My point is, even if you don’t like classic, thats fine because I strongly dislike retail wow. Opinions are opinions. The fact that both titles will have a strong player base is a strong W for both of us.
