Classic WoW is killing Retail WoW

Two days later and it seems okay, got random BFA dungeon as dps in listed queue time.

Iono, my guild isn’t having issues still running on our raid days and we still run keys frequently.

:woman_shrugging:

This is how I always feel on retail. Retail is the bad version of the game where the devs took a working recipe and completely tried to recreate it. It was fine at first, but overall ruined the game and the enjoyable experience.

I haven’t touched retail in over 2 years. I doubt I ever go back and there are probably thousands that feel the same way.

There’s just really nothing interesting to do in retail outside of LFG for me. Normally I’d be leveling a character, but I hate what retail’s leveling has become. I hate the Chromie time cap especially.

When I can just play 1-60 I’ll likely go back on my alts sitting at 50 and finish some of my favorite older stories. But IDGAF about rounding out my mount or pet collection with how most of them are obtained. I’d do Zereth Mortis if the build-a-bear system wasn’t so heavily dependent on RNG drops.

But it’s just got too much RNG for me, and I’m not a fan of feeling like I’m wasting my time. If DF endgame feels better, I’ll probably get into LFG stuff. But I won’t play exclusively for that.

I was able to fill +2’s tonight in no time at all. Just listed my own key.

Raids are a bit tough. Its pretty easy if its a fresh group but as people down the boss that has their BiS item they leave and it gets more and more difficult to fill later on.

Thats weird I don’t have anyone on my friends list that has played WotLK yet. I know some plan to for the mount at some point.

  • Level alts
  • Get alts ready for DF
  • Work on finishing TW mounts and transmog I might have missed
  • Do the mage tower
  • Finish any perfect torghast runs you haven’t done yet
  • Work on any achievements that are going to be difficult to get next expansion
  • Level professions and get all recipes
  • Work on lore master
  • Work on mount and pet collecting
  • Try unlocking any and all transmogs
  • Work on learning how to play markets to make more gold on the AH
  • Do any rep grinds you may have missed at any point.
  • Work on streaming, its a low content point so its a good time to get viewers as many regulars start to stream less.

Those are just a couple of things on my list.

It is so killing it that I am having trouble getting myself to play classic for the free mount…

I’ve been playing since day 1 of release, I’ve also really enjoyed classic, and I feel Legion is the best expansion they’ve ever made.

It had so much content, and more class specific content than the entire rest of the game combined.

It had the best content pacing, large amount of raids and bosses without having to use old reskins, it introduced brand new awesome content like mythic+ and the mage tower, and it had a new class.

It was pretty much the total package.

It was so good that even the boneheaded idea of random legendaries can’t drag it down.

It’s pretty fun.

It’s funny because the limiting factor for all but WF level guilds is mechanics not dps/hps.

how

Right now? Of course it would. Wrath of the Lich King was WoW at its absolute best, and that’s not just nostalgia talking. In retail right now there’s not much to do except fated raids and whatever mythics/PvP exist outside of that; it’s more or less the same content as it has been the last few months. You’re playing right now in the lull between xpacks. it’s like this every time as an xpack comes to a close. Prepatch will see all of that stuff return.

People are hopping on Wrath Classic because it’s content to do. You also might just be on a slow server.

Honestly, I play classic and I regularly farm old content in retail.
Most of the classic players dont play both and would likely be unsubbed or inactive if classic wasnt a thing.
As others have related this to the end of an expansion, this has been the case for EVERY end of an expac I have experienced. You will see more lively playing in retail when prepatch for DF hits.

Here, i fixed your list. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes::blush:

Don’t lump us all in with Massholes.

You may think that struggle with the snow on the first day of winter in the North East but I saw something even worse, hysterical in fact.

I just happened to be in Atlanta one late winter morning when they had a snow storm. It was one of those things where the grass gets covered but the snow melts as soon as it hits the hard pavement and the snow flakes clump up because they get “sticky”. By 9AM there was no snow in sight.

Should have heard the guy on the radio. "Bleee-zard !!! Bleee-zard !!! Snow flakes the sah-zz uh quarters fah-len out-ah the sk-ah !!!

killing is a big word but i always found it weird when companies willingly split their population like that.

had the same kind of thought when PoE brought SSF in.

questionable moves.

reminds me of the meme where the guy puts a stick in his own bike wheel

Yep. As soft skinned as people are these days(look at what gets flagged around here) I limit my talks to discord or guild chat with people I know. Don’t have time or patience for drama.

As for Op, WOTLK Classic just launched and retail is at the end of an expansion. Let’s see where things are in a few months when DL launches. My bets are on classic once again becoming a wasteland.

If a 15 year old version of the game is killing retail, then it’s probably not the 15 year old version of the game that’s the problem.

But it hasn’t been a wasteland. There’s tons and tons of TBC raid logs showing that people are highly active- but they are all consolidated on a few servers.

I logged into Oribos in the middle of the day Saturday and there was not one other player horde or alliance (frostwolf). Lol. But meanwhile on classic we are doing wpvp raids. We did FTA with 100 people on a Monday morning. which is sad to me, retail has so many quality of life improvements over classic but it cannot compete with the social aspect. The pvp is way better too.
