Classic Anniversary New Account Restrictions

Hello,

New account here playing WoW Classic on the Anniversary realms. I noticed when I started playing that Blizzard implemented a restriction that removed my ability to trade, use the AH, and send mail.

I made a ticket and the GM let me know that these restrictions were removed and would not be re-applied to my account.

I was able to use all these functions for the last week and half but it appears that I am now restricted again. I re-opened my ticket and was told to make a forum post since they can’t do anything about it.

Was I lied to? Why would a GM tell me I would not get these restrictions again but now I do? Why do I have to suffer because other people bot? Why can’t I submit some sort of ID to get these restrictions lifted?

Please help me!

It sounds like there was a misunderstanding somewhere in the communication, I wouldn’t necessarily say it was a lie.

The new account restrictions are by design because of spam and bot practices and would be lifted after 26 days of paid and used game time since 2017.

That is correct, these restrictions will be here for new and returning accounts since 2017 for the next 26 full paid days.

These restrictions were introduced after the community demanded action.

An ID can be falsified and after submitting, the account can still be botted so it would not serve for anything. We’ve seen individuals use cheats, it is not only criminal orgs that cheat.

Even with that said, the BEST strategy Blizzard has to combat botting is to restrict ALL new players of some of the most vital game functions?

It’s still very inappropriate to have a GM tell me these restrictions will not be applied again and then they appear a week later. Can I not trust what GM’s say as fact?

I’m not aware of a GM being able to remove such restrictions in the first place. That would be surprising.

"Dear [redacted]

Issue ID: #102380337

A Game Master resolved your ticket, and left the following response:

Hello there,

I am Specialist Taishemara.

I had a look into this for you. Our developers decided to turn of the restrictions for now after all the feedback we received from you and other players.

The might return in the future (this would not affect you, if you have or buy gametime now) but will affect other players if they should start a new account or return in the future, should the restrictions be turned on again).

Sorry again for the inconvenience and I am very happy that they have been lifted for all players, for now.

Have a great day and I wish you all the best.

The GM didn’t remove the restriction, but had some sort of basis for saying that the developers had indeed removed the restriction. Clearly there is a major lack of communication going on.

Only in Classics. Retail has none of these restrictions.

That said, from your copy of the GM ticket it appears they did remove it so I wonder what our Blizzardians will think about it.

I’d have to go digging but pretty sure Orlyia or Vrakthris made a post on a thread that a GM cannot remove the restriction.

I am not claiming that the GM removed the restrictions themselves. That was never said.

Not inaccurate, but the way you worded it left it an open interpretation.

As this is a new development for that policy, have you added game time to that license? The Epic editions for Classic progression and TWW servers includes 30 days but that is not eligible for preventing restrictions from being added back.

I think the confusion comes from the wording you used in your first post.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing that can be done via the forums. You’re welcome to provide your feedback in the Classic forums, but there wouldn’t be anything that can be done via posting to have those restrictions removed.

Not sure that it’s “clear” nor a “major” lack of communications. It would seem that there may have been a decision made to change such restrictions, but I’ve not seen anything posted publicly. That’s not to say it isn’t true, just that we tend to rely on posts from Blizzard regarding such changes.

Neither does cataclysm AFAIK.

Only classic Era (and derivatives thereof).

Did you buy gametime after that was sent to you?

Ive had game time since November 20th.

If November 20 was the 1st time you added game time to your account since 2017, you shouldn’t have had access mail, trade or AH at all until December 17.

Well, I don’t understand the GM response that was sent to you and I’m not sure when that response was sent either. I don’t think there’s much we can do here.

When you were told to post on the forums, it’s usually to post feedback, which is done in Classic General Discussion. But this is a peer to peer help desk with assistance from Support Forum Agents who are not GMs. So I’m not sure what else we can tell you.

Well, I am looking for a blue post. Not necessarily the help from players.

While you’re welcome to post and ask here, there are still no GMs and no way for a GM to alter that restriction. So you’d just be providing feedback about the restriction. Since the CS forums are not a feedback forum, the Classic forum is a better suited place for suggestions on changing the current restriction.

To be clear, nobody can remove that restriction other than the developers, which I’ve not seen anything recently indicating that they changed it.

There have apparently been updates.

Still some restrictions until the first month has been consumed, but use of the AH is no longer one of them.

Then that would be through the support site link up above, not by posting in the player help forum. Blue posts are never guaranteed here.

Looks like you can sell on the AH, but not buy.
