I’m excited for “new cosmological charts” aka plural. I’m hoping for at least a Great Wheel cosmological chart next.

That’s what we get for not electing it warchief.

They can’t walk it back, the damage has already been done and has festered for years. Teldrassil/The entire War of Thorns will go down as Blizzard’s greatest narrative blunder.

Trying to use the term ‘genocide’ to make a story important completely changes the tone of the events and makes them more real. While it will definitely get people to pay attention to it, the whole act clashes with the world that has been previously established.

Mass slaughter of groups is a common gameplay element in WoW that is normally brushed over narratively. Vehicle quest as we call them are always there, in every expansion. We hop on a dragon, or on a machine, gun, etc, and just start killing large group of enemies in seconds. From mid double digits all the way up to 1000, Gnomebliteration being the most unanimously praised one back in Uldum for being ‘fun and amusing’.

Silly gameplay that still exists to this day, popping up in nearly every zone, clashing against the idea of a ‘serious’ narrative moment. The only thing the burning of Teldrassil managed to achieve was poisoning any discussion about lore about the factions post War of Thorns. Everything since then has the smoke of that fixed point hovering above them. They had no exit strategy for it, no clean way to clear it up. It just followed the story group expansion after expansion, people wanting a satisfying resolution for it when there could never be one.

It will be their shame and it is here to stay.

So besides Light, Shadow, Void, Order(Lawful Neutral), Disorder(Chaotic Neutral), Life, Death, Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Spirit and Decay we get Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Chaotic Good, Lawful Evil(9 Hells), Neutral Evil(???) and Chaotic Evil(Infinitely Vast Infinite Layers of an Abyss) as well?

A Cosmic Realm of Lawful Goodness would be 7 Infinitely Vast Heavens all different from Bastion: 1st an Infinitely Vast Starlit Middle Eastern Desert surrounded by an Infinitely Vast Starlit Sea, 2nd a Japanese-themed Jungle, 3rd a copy of the Shire, 4th a Chinese Realm with a Dwarven City, 5th a Desert with Temporal Anomalies, 6th an Angelic City, 7th pure Goodness.

Can’t imagine a Cosmic Realm of Pure Goodness even though DnD depicts it’s Realm of Pure Goodness as being 4 Layers that Oceanus passes each getting wetter and wetter until the 4th Layer becomes an Ocean entirely.

The Realm of Pure Chaotic Goodness in DnD is the Realm of the Sun Elves, Wood Elves, Sand Elves, Sea Elves and Grey Elves…

The Realm of Neutral Evil is the Grey Wastes which is just the Rift that we can access from the Maw as well as the Realm of Shadows which might just be a Layer of the Veil.

The Realm of Lawful Evil is the Nine Hells which are Avernus(Blood-splattered Wasteland where Fire Rains down from the sky), Dis(Infinitely Vast Outskirts leading to an Infinitely Vast Red Hot City leading those who don’t seek it to an Infinitely Vast Tower leading to another Infinitely Vast City), Minauros(Swamp), Phlegethos(Volcano), Stygia(Half Ice Wasteland Half Black Desert), Malboge(Fleshy Realm), Maladomini(Ruins), Cania(Icy Wasteland) and Nessus(think Firelands).

The Realm of Chaotic Evil in DnD is the Infinitely Vast Infinite Layers of the Abyss which include Pazunia(a Red Badlands with a Moon floating above it and rivers of Blood), Shendilavri the False Paradise of the Succubi, Goranthis the True Paradise of the Incubi, Androlynne the Fairy Realm defending against the Pale Night, the Slime Pits, Slugbed where the Angels rule the mountains as the Demons rule the ground, Smaragd the Green Acid Jungle and the Gates of Heaven.

You understand now what a Great Wheel Cosmology entails?

Part of me is tempted to buy it so when it’s recalled because the WoD section says the internment camps were a good idea I have a rare copy of a book.

What are you talking about?

You don’t remember the Chronicle that got recalled for suggesting Trolls can’t read among other things? Sorry not Chronicle, it was like Exploring Kalimdor or something.

You mean this? [Amazon.com: World of Warcraft: Exploring Azeroth: Kalimdor Exploring Azeroth, 2): 9781950366613: Copeland, Sean, Blizzard Entertainment: Books](https://www.amazon.com/World-Warcraft-Exploring-Azeroth-Kalimdor/dp/1950366618/ref=sr_1_1?crid=RNK732YABAG3&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.EXULDuhHtdpB-jpcxFiA0EfC6dA9WOZF_1_MVz1OMr6eXcsEmEE1xZgF4jw21v29rRCAJHeGMt2Dzec8C90_5RBGoshE5qsyoJztLKFGhVg.kWMN_Zxp5bHF2_qzQE0ValcGXYKJkDcG6TH-z5CoT0U&dib_tag=se&keywords=exploring+kalimdor&qid=1705650678&sprefix=exploring+kalimdo%2Caps%2C285&sr=8-1

It was never “Recalled” and my copy of the book still has said line.

Oh yeah? Fair enough. I never paid much attention to the book just the “controversy” surrounding it.

For better or worse some story bits could be, I still think owning up to them and moving foward is better than just retconning.

Mind you, I got into wow during BFa, and while there are some bad stuff, some of my favorite story bits are there.

Ah yes. Vore is love.

Gonna be spicy when the High King debacle gets brought up again. Its gonna be fun since we’ve had no update on this giant step backwards in faction development since MoP outside of a CM trying to explain Anduin mysteriously having the title without retconning what little lore the title has. Expect major retcons.

I’m probably going to be proven right all along.

Hilarious how Chronicle is resuming with a vol 4 now that Metzen is back at the helm of the story. Something tells me the “titan pov” stuff will suspiciously stop being mentioned in regards to the first three volumes as well.

Good. Get Metzen to excise the taint of Afrasiabi.

I lost all interest in buying any more Chronicles books when they pulled the whole - “It’s from the Titan’s perspective” nonsense. Waste of paper having books to explain the lore if they’re just going to disregard them and retcon everything six months later. Just going to let someone else waste their money and post quotes on the forums to know what else Blizzard butchered in the lore.

I suspect that the Traveler comics will be included in the book and I wonder if Mueh’zala’s absence from the final Volume will be explained.

I only have two real big hopes for this, one I feel might happen the other is a long shot.

The more realistic thing, and what I probably want more, is an actual narrative of the 4th war. Not the Sylvanas going super satan bad and our island vacation adventures, but the day to day actual war that we were sold and kinda told to us in mission tables. How did Stormwind go from its professional army to farmer conscripts? Was there ever a march on the Great Gate again? Did Desolation Hold actually hold them? Ya know, things like that.

The long shot is a real middle finger to Golden and recontextualizing why Sylvanas became the way she is come Shadowlands, or are we really sticking with lava eel vore? There is no saving that narrative, but there can be some smoothing out.

Even if they do not bring up the lava eel vore, we will still know it exists.

You can never truly eliminate lava eel vore from the player’s knowledge base.

This is the true crime of Shadowlands; lava eel vore is a thing now, and it will be a thing forever.
