Choosing Who you play with is NOT Gatekeeping

Maybe try analyzing your motivations for playing games and restructure your internal reward structure and dopamine loop.

WHY do you play wow? To get loot? Why do you get loot? To make number go higher? Why do you want to make number go higher? To kill more boss and get more loot.

The issue here lies with the extrinsic reward chasing. The issue is, when a game is perfectly mathed out, and you know exactly where to go to get the best things, you complete that goal so quickly that it’s over so quickly. This is the same reason why EQ wouldn’t scratch the itch for you, it’s not a new experience, and you know exactly what you want and how to get it.

Disconnect your dopamine triggers from the carrot blizzard dangles before you, and you’ll have a much more enjoyable experience.

Why they exists is irrelevant, blizzard allowed that to happen. Personally, I see no reason not to allow realm traveling and cross realm grouping. The issue of retail’s solution was never the cross realm nature of it, it was the randomized nature of sharding. There was no consistency in the world, it wasn’t that you were seeing people from another community.

Layers have done the exact same thing to classic wow, except instead of joining random communities, they have SPLIT random communities.

I enjoyed EQ because it was a new genre and the people at my command played so we always ran groups together. The lore and raids were great! I enjoy Wrath, I even enjoy the dungeons. I don’t enjoy the process of forming the group taking longer than the actual dungeon.

How do you feel about spreadsheets?

Why would you deny someone for regular utgarde keep? That seems a bit weird.

I actually played, and loved the shizz out of Eve Online, it was my main game for many many years, and it was specifically because the community I was apart of was amazing.

It’s also where I learned that levels and classes are terrible game design decisions, and that there should be no artificial barrier between a player wanting to experience a part of their game that locks them out of it without having to re-play through the entire game on a second character.

Any time you think “deny someone” instead think “pick someone else”. Remember, there’s almost always a million dps listed, so you always get your pick of the litter. It’s like jobs and resumes, they always flick through the resumes and throw out the ones they don’t like

Honestly people like Shanxi save me the trouble, because I guarantee they’ll end up dragging the group down and are the ones getting carried. :joy:

Well to be fair eve honestly has levels and “classes” depending on what you train first and how long it takes but i still agree with you.

EVE is an AMAZING online game, but the only issue is, its gotta be your thing, or else you want beable to get into that said i still love hopping into it now and then and flying my maruader around, or my stealth bomber to gank in, or my tengu to explore and do all sorts of fun stuff, evenry now and then join incursions with my blaster ship and just have a great time.

If you wanna talk community, eve has an AMAZING community, a bit weird on some things, but really good.

Right, but a 3 year old veteran, and someone who’s been playing 6 months both get into a frigate, and they’re both gonna be roughly equally as competent, and there are roles that only frigates can really competently achieve, just like each class of ship, so eve’s progression is all about HORIZONTAL progression, like, sure there’s a level of verticality to it (skills after all go to level 5), but it’s mostly about increasing the number of things you can do, not the strength at which you do them, and THATS what I love about it. Now, personally, I might pick a different route toward xp accumulation, as flat time isn’t necessarily the best for new vs older players, but that’s neither here nor there at this point

I think part of the reason Eve Online has such a great and storied community is BECAUSE of its sandbox nature. It has a few bits of pve in there, but 90% of eve online isn’t about the NPCs you’re killing, it’s about where you fit in the endless web of players that are playing the game.

Honestly, I would LOVE a game that is almost functionally like eve online, but set in a fantasy setting with actual characters and avatars rather than dots in space on an overview haha. A game that has very little focus on pve, that focuses on players building, exploiting their lands, and protecting them from invaders who want to conquer them. Alliances forged, bargains struck, betrayals plotted, backs stabbed. Ashes of Creation is probably gonna be the closest thing I’m gonna get, I just wish they had a classless system, if they did, it would have been the perfect game for me.

Thats what i love about eve, out of all the RPGs and MMOs its the only one i know where they literally drop you in a universe with a tool box and go, alright, go do the needful, and do litearlly what ever you want, we dont care just dont cheat the game mechanics, cheating people? Oh yeah thats fair.

Yeahh… I miss paying my sub through goonfleet recruitment scams. But mostly, I miss the days the boys were all together. Goonswarm, Test and Pandemic Legion, the OG underdog alliances… wistful sigh

Ah a goon as well, god bless those crazy bastards.

Yeah, it wasn’t as fun once we were the top dogs, and then we all just started infighting. Yo, I remember having a literal job in that game refuelling our jump network, it was legit.

Why are some ppl so terrified of RGF? Why do they care if others have it and use it? They can still form their own groups and not use it. Makes zero sense to me why they don’t want other ppl to have it.

And now the wotlk servers are under claimed to be full rushin attack by gatekeepers, when in reality people don’t want a sandbagger dragging their team down!

There are a couple gdkps that are scum but no the majority of them are just a DKP system thats transferable between raids. Sorry you had some bad experiences, maybe you didn’t make cut and are salty?

Hey how come I cant afk your dungeon and need on everything, you gatekeeper!
