Choosing Who you play with is NOT Gatekeeping

gate·keep·ing
*noun*

the activity of controlling, and usually limiting, general access to something.

Key word: general

Players who want to play with other geared players is not gatekeeping. If you are being removed because you want to get carried at 68 in UK by a group of T6 geared players, that is NOT gatekeeping.

That is called not having dead weight on your team. And vice versa is the SAME thing, you don’t want to be a speedrunner in a dad group.

You can make a group and unless you’re on a dead server or far ahead, there are always people to recruit. If you don’t want to wait and want to join random groups when everyone else is 70-72, it’s up to you.

If people constantly kick you or not invite you, maybe there’s a reason other people don’t want to play with you. Every group has its own expectations.

Play with like-minded players who want you, that’s what a social MMO is about. Not about demanding RDF to be added because you don’t wanna put in effort…

PS: And to those who are hardcore consuming speedrunner, in an ungeared, chill group, you deserve to be kicked if you try to push your standards on everyone else.

you tell them!

the noobs claim they have earned the right to be carried by us. but we don’t put up with that noise.

Debunking, Education, Learning. since there are several posts claiming being kicked from a dungeon is gatekeeping. See Figure A.

I actually am OK with the new LFD tool they give us, it is pretty easy to make a group with it.
and honestly after having a few “special” people who I never want to group with again I like being able to pick who I invite to my group.

So a level 68 which can complete the dungeon but he isn’t in last expansions last raid bis isn’t gatekeeping? ok. I don’t care about gatekeeping but you aren’t right either.

I dunno, you might want to work on your reading comprehension. It is by definition gate keeping to have a minimum set of standards for entry, even if it’s limited to your one group. That group would be gatekeeping.

That being said, I see no problem with someone gatekeeping their group. People need to stop being lazy and make their own group.

i put the definition on gatekeeping in my post and explained the key word that separates the actual meaning of the word vs what Figure A and other posts have claimed.

So you don’t need to quote the definition to me again, don’t worry, I know it.

lol. And this is why RDF promotes being “social”. It forces people to go into guilds. It forces people to interact with others - even if it’s at a minimal level.

Anyone who said RDF doesn’t inhibit being “social” (note i didn’t say prevent) just got a lesson.

You get removed because of your gear. I get removed because I suck.

We are not the same.

I got removed yesterday because I was in my DPS gear as a tank when we were at the summon stone. Amazing!

Gotcha. Just emphasizing that ‘general’ is a relative term and does not necessarily limit/restrict the scope. General access to your one specific group is valid, as is general access to the LFD tool of all groups.

I mean yes, by definition LFD would erase gatekeeping for some players which does happen, just as it happens in every multiplayer game.

I got removed for going deep arms prot warrior. Apparently going unrelenting assault tank is frowned upon in this establishment.

The wowhead guide for warriors didn’t mention it, that’s why they were confused.

But it’s just one group. Gatekeeping would imply that they’re preventing you from progressing. They’re just not allowing you in the group. That isn’t what that means. If they could prevent you from forming your own group, by not including you in theirs- that would be a big deal. The lfg tool that’s in the game right now is very easy to use. People just don’t want the responsibility.

I’ll take stories that never happened for $800 Alex

After being in multiple dad guilds, I believe it.

You can be the right build and still suck at the game.

Also $800? Wuss. Go big or gtfo of here.
