Choosing a Covenant?

For me it’s a toss-up between Venthyr and Necrolord. Rivendreth and Maldraxxus look pretty cool.

I’m interested in having different characters side with each Covenant based on what makes sense for their race/class in general.

Can’t wait to choose the covenant which gives the best performance in arena, but isn’t the one I would choose thematically, only to have to switch and repeat the covenant grind because the abilities I chose my covenant for were nerfed.

All the while being unhappy because the optimal covenants for raids, m+ and open world are among the other 3 meaning my character will be sub optimal for those 3 cases.

Not to mention that there will probably be covenant abilities that are optimal depending on match up in arena, so I guess I’ll just be sad about my choice for half of those cases too.

See I’m just going by which one my individual characters would choose (also choosing different ones on different characters will get me all the candy lol ). This character is going Night Fae, my belf will go Venthyr (fingers crossing for at least San’layn customization). Priest/paladin will go Bastion. Not sure if I’ll go for Necrolord though…‘proto Scourge’ just isn’t that appealing to me.

I’m going Aldor for Blood Spec.

Kyrian attracts my interest the most. However, I will likely use different covenants dependant on which character I play. For example: My healers would likely be Kyrian friendly whereas my shadow priest will be Venthyr, my warlock and deathknight and demon hunter Necrolord and my druid and hunter Night Fae. Off the top of my head that is.

What do you do in the next tier when that answer changes?

(I have a small worry about this system locking people into paths - doesn’t affect me as I personally don’t care about min/maxing that much, but armchair dev senses are tingling that this may be a source of complaints)

As for my choice: as a player, likely kyrian, as a character night fae, as a collector all of them.

I’m really intrigued by Draka joining the Necrolords. I’d like to see what culture there is there.

I love Kael’thas as a character and would likely go Venthyr, but there’s just something about the Night Fae aesthetic that I keep coming back to!

Slightly off topic but I do hope that there’s a soul trader faction in Oribos so I can finally fulfill my dream of being a warlock that ACTUALLY trades in the souls of those he’s slain.

Sorry I’ll clarify - Say I tank for my guild. But then my friend that I’ve played with since WotLK want to run our usual set of arena matches - tanking doesn’t make sense there, but I want to continue healing like I always have.

Then my guild has a dps spot open - I want to help them and dps, and they would benefit from it.

In order to do this and play a multi-role class (the reason I picked it in the first place) - I have to get charged gold to do it.

The only entity saying “dont’” do it is Blizzard. Or if you do…“pay us”.

Dps only classes don’t really have this issue.

Venthyr, obvs

Can i bind my soul to Varian he is such a daddy after all.

The people who go emo goth vampire covenant are probably the same people who ruin roleplays by explaining their entire invincible demon hunter vampire elf backstory while me and a few others just want a few drinks at the local inn, lol. Definitely going to stay far far away from that covenant.

Agreed. Our guild lost at least 1 tank and a handful of healers because of restrictions like this.

The dps specs get to make great use of their choices in all forms of gameplay - but the tanks and healers get locked. Healers at least have some options when it comes to PvP - but tanks aren’t viable in that content at all. So they’re the ones that get hit the hardest with these kinds of restrictions.

Great a Harry Potter themed expansion…

Love: Covenenant aesthetics.

Hate: that I’ll have to choose between the one that’s best for pve vs pvp and not the one I dig the most aesthetically.

Mee too.

this exactly.

Hopefully, you have another main because if you’re choosing based on top DPS sim as a LFR only raider that’s pretty funny. Unless you’re on a team seriously pushing for Cutting Edge it’s silly to make choices solely based on sims. There are plenty of non-elitist players and teams out there that you can succeed with (clear Ahead of the Curve level content) without having to be as rigid as Method.

And if thy system didn’t charge to switch specs - neither side would be negatively impacted.

Introducing the fee’s to change, just to play the various content created for us, only introduces negative aspects for at least a portion of the players.

I plan to have a “flagship” toon for each covenant. But for my two mains, my troll hunter will join the Night Fae, my draenei pally will join the Kyrians.

I def wanna bring my Night Elf DH and Blood Elf lock into the Venthyr and make a new worgen DK for the Necrolords.

Im choosing purely on personality of the covenant and my toon’s matching.
