Chat has been turned off

I’m really confused. I logged on today to this message in quotes below.
I know, I know… many people come here and proclaim innocence about how they conduct themselves in-game, but I’m seriously not one to use bad language masked or otherwise, or other in-game behaviors that’s afoul of the tos.
My question is, is my account dinged? Am I actioned? If so, I would honestly love to know what. I’ve checked my email and checked spam and all folders for blizzard emails and there’s none.

No, if you were penalized the message would indicate that your account was silenced or suspended and you should receive an email notification of a policy violation.

The message sounds like an age restriction. New laws and regulations kick in all the time and it is possible that your account indicates that it qualifies to have those restrictions turned on.

Are you able to update your chat settings? The message you said you received indicates you should be able to.

Thank you for your response! And yes, I was able to toggle it on.
I’ve never had any account actions, so I had a bit of a panic and super confusion as I generally try to go out of my way to help people in game if I have time and game knowledge about random questions in lfg, trade etc.

It sounds like something was turned on recently to activate some age restriction settings (I believe there are a couple of posts made in the Tech Forum that indicate they experienced the same thing).

As far as I know these settings are on by default when creating a new account. My mostly educated guess would be that older accounts that qualify, or that may not have a birth date set, switched over when that system was activated/updated.

Sorry for the confusion/panic.
