Hello Orlyia, thank you for your response. That character did also progress through classic expansion, but I also saved him on Classic Era and that is the character who lost his name.
The issue is with a different character on a different client.
This happened on era servers which havenât undergone any new mergers in that time afaik, and this character has been on whitemane since day one.
It would help to know which character you are referring to, Massey, what name, etcâŠ
The character from the Original post. Bigdestiny Whitemane ERA. Is now named therealbigd because my name was given away after being offline for only 7 months.
yeah, I hope you are joking?
I had to pick a name to figure out what was going on.
Yeah but thats gona get u into trouble if its reported.
You may want to self report that just so that you wonât get in trouble when somebody else does.
Id love a name change. Preferably back to the name I had.
Unfortunately i dont see u getting it back sorry.
Sorry, but I was replying to Massey, Bigdestiny.
Orlyia already provided an answer to you, stating that the only Bigdestiny found on this account was the one on Whitemane/Cataclysm. There is no evidence of a character of that name on this account for Classic Era.
If we had changed the name by request (which isnât something that we generally would do), there would be a note on your account indicating that was done. There is no note stating that. So, Iâm afraid we cannot find any evidence that the name existed on that realm and if it did, what may have happened to change it.
I am going to flag your current characterâs name though, as just the initial D at the end of that name lends itself to a different meaning. I wouldnât want you getting reported for that name and being penalized.
Thank you. Massey was referring to my character and my character. I appreciate you flagging my name so that I can change the name, but it doesnât change the fact hat I never requested a name change and I had the name for 5 years on this server. I can provide screen shots as proof if needed.
Ah, I can appreciate that they wish to advocate for you, but it does tend to confuse the issue.
Iâm afraid screenshots donât really do any good. We can only use internal information.
I understand the frustration, but we simply have no record of the character with that name on this license for Classic Era. As I mentioned there are no notes indicating that we changed the name, which should exist if we had anything to do with it. As I understand it there is also no system in place for Classic Era that would automatically release a name. We would not be able to take the name from another user and give it to you. Sorry.
Thank you for the clarification, if I am understanding right. this means someone just spam reported my name while I was away. Once your system flagged it they just took the name? I can send mail to someone on era that has the name bigdestiny now.
Iâm not sure your name can be directly reported if youâre not logged in with the character anywhere. Even if the name was reported, it wouldnât be changed unless it was determined that it violated naming rules, and even then, whoever else used the name would quickly be tracked down and actioned.
Then that would indicate someone is using the name. If thatâs the case then youâre almost certainly not getting the name back on that realm unless they delete their character and the name remains unused for two expansions if my timeframe is correct. (Unless classic works differently)
No, that is not something that I claimed.
You canât get a name flagged by simply âspam reportingâ it. That isnât how that works at all. Any name that is reported has to be reviewed by our staff. If we agree that the name shouldnât be allowed, then the report is approved and the character is flagged for a rename.
As I said, there is no note indicating that we changed your name, which would happen if the name was reported and flagged for a rename.
Yes, because it belongs to another character on that realm.
Correct. Youâd have to be online to have the character name reported.
okay, so how would my name go from being mine to being flagged and then someone else having it while I was offline for 7 months?
The logical conclusion is that you never had there it to begin with.
Granted technology and software can also be fickle and sometimes things happen that shouldnât, but thereâs usually an indication of it somewhere in the code or software use history.
You could go one step further and find that your specific issue dodged all forms of failsafes and logging processes, which just again makes it look like it was never there to begin with, and provides no answers that can be provided to satisfy the query.
I donât think heâs saying that your name was actually flagged. I think heâs saying that the only reason your name would not show up on record, if you actually had it in the first place, would be because it was flagged and changed. But if you werenât logged in at all, then your name could not have been reported, so the conclusion is that you never had it in the first place.
