Trashran lol. Critically I can’t disagree. I can only speculate on personal sentiment: I picked up Hunter at max level and Hunter WPvP for the first time then.
But I think the true nature of soloing is simply making your own way any way you might. The garrison system was EXCELLENT in that regard; you really felt like you “ran the show” as the “commander”. And who could forget that Gucci gold rush?
Basically you just got your orders from Sellus Gravius in Seyda Neen to report to Caius Cosades in Balmora. You can stop by Arrille’s Tradehouse to get some stuff, but beyond that you’re free to do whatever you want with no more suggestion. That’s the true spirit of soloing like in The Elder Scrolls.
People say that’s antithetical to MMO’s when they are presumptuous to define what an MMO is in “their way” just because it was the way it became since the genre started.
To be fair they thought Classic would be the biggest flop in WoW history too… along with a lot of retail andys that fought tooth and nail to keep it from happening. Come to think of it… most of their posts sounded just like yours here… interesting… the taught have surpassed the teacher.
I would say cata might happen hopefully not at the cost of classic wrath era as any era which isn’t wrath will most likely will have to deal with the fact that they will compete with wrath and while cata did add some good stuff like dmf change, and good heroic dungeons both it and a maybe future tbc era would need something like crafted gear being more relivent or was that another expansion.
If for example, tbc era was added in the future we would need something to counteract how slow it was to gear in early phases, maybe add a normal and heroic mode of the raid so if you failed in heroic you could still improve gear in normals. Same with cata.
I think a lot of people here are glossing over Cata PvP, in a sort of grass-is-greener type thinking. Cata is probably as bad if not worse than Wrath.
The change from Wrath to Cata added a lot for pvp. Lots of new abilities, warlocks got a defensive, hunters got stealth etc. The biggest change though is that Blizzard massively and exponentially increased health pools to compensate for Wrath’s burst. By the end of Cata having several hundred thousand hp was the norm. As damage did not catch up (and was further reduced by resilience) this meant games went on for longer, much like TBC but worse since they removed mana drains, which at least was a way to slowly kill healer teams. Mana became a literal non-issue for every healer. So there was nothing preventing a healer from continuously outhealing damage except for a very good CC chain. Healers were just bonkers.
Likewise death knights were still very powerful, and a blood death knight that could continuously death strike you and restore 10% (or whatever) of its health each time, along with their naturally high health pools and armor meant they were virtually unkillable if paired with a healer. Or even without a healer, it was very possible to 1v2 people as a blood dk.
It got so bad they eventually released “dampening” in arena which decreased the amount of healing done
I can see myself playing Cata Classic. As a PvPer, I loved RBGs. Tol Barad was fun and I enjoyed the WPvP around that island. Molten Front was cool, the underwater zone of Vash’jir was unique and beautiful (although, I get some people hated it).
Transmog is actually a fun system that gives life to older content. It’s still wildly popular in retail today.
My only real dislike was the disjointed new zones but really, it’s just for levelling with no real end game use.
Some people complain about the changes to the old world. Honestly, I don’t care that much since I don’t plan to level lower level alts. Might be a good idea to add a Chromie tool to allow a player to choose which old Azeroth to activate.
I don’t recall some of the class changes and I understand how they changed the talent tree. It was not a deal breaker for me.
Cata Classic is almost definitely happening. I expect them to make a few good changes (no LFR, maybe redesign the last raid) and expect players will try it out.
wraith is already flopping and its only 2 months in. Theres no chance cat ever comes. This was supposed to be the golden boy of expansions and it failed. Why would they waste time and money on one of the most hated expansions lol
theres literally 7 people in que for 24 dungeons of low level content right now. thats a dead game. A dead game is when no new players are coming into the game and the vets that are in the game arnt making alts or participating in filling out maps.
Cata was the top of the WoW bell curve IMO. Looking forward to it again, even with the crappy/toxic modern-day player community. Thank goodness a good guild community can offset that.
I believe they will do wrath+, instead of classic+. They took original features away added retail features. Making hero+. Wrath was the most popular expansion and they want that audience. Even though they have alienated half of them.
Those cata features most liked will probably be in and those they didn’t out.
Just speculation on my part, observing what is taking place.
I recently took several screenshots the other day of all the players in the LFG tool for level 71 and below dungeons at around noon. It took six screenshots to capture everyone.
This was on Whitemane. If you are playing on a lower pop realm, that doesn’t mean WotLK is dying. It may mean your realm is dying. Big difference.
If only there was a tool that could connect the people trying to do those low level dungeons across realms so they can actually be done within a reasonable amount of time.
I really doubt it. If anything, they would do a SoM release of WotLK at some point. Developing actual content for WotLK (that gets consumed very quickly) seems like a lot of development hours for a niche community.
