It’s like this because Blizzard’s intent is for there not to be a skip. I agree that removing Threads of Fate was a poor decision since it artificially gates players’ new alts from visiting much of the SL content, but no amount of pretending the campaign being forced is anything except intended is going to change the facts.
They said it was meant to be removed with the DF pre-patch and have said nothing else about bringing it back since then.
I don’t recall Blizzard ever saying anything about their intent regarding the skip, only their intent with the ‘Threads of Fate’ leveling option (select covenant and complete fill the bar meta quests for XP by completing WQ, killing rares, zone events, etc) which was created as a way to level to 60 without replaying the linear campaign back SL was the only content available to level from 50-60.
They stated when they removed the ‘Threads of Fate’ leveling option at DF launch that the leveling option was no longer needed as there were plenty of ways to level up to 60 using Chromie Time.
They never stated anything about their intent regarding skipping the campaign on characters level 60+, though for many characters, the skip has continued to be available while for others it is not.
Ok, so the bug seems to be expanding, I just logged into one of my mop remix characters and tried to do the skip and then activate threads of fate, I was able to skip the maw introduction but there was no follow up quest available and no threads of fate available at the fate scribe. So now not only can you not skip the story the story doesn’t seem to be an option at all if you skip the maw introduction.
Please set the requirements of threads of fate back to level 50 and 1 account completion of the shadowlands campaign. I agree its not cool how everybody is so down on the expansion in spite of the production value and effort put into it, but just completely knocking access of it out isn’t really cool
This just happened to me. I went to do the Blood Elf Pally quest on my level 80 alt, talked to Darion and skipped the Maw intro only to be met with the guards and nothing else, no quest, nothing. And it sucks too because I was really looking forward to doing this Questline and grinded out dozens of Classic Timewalking dungeons to get Exalted with Silvermoon, only to find out that I can’t complete it, because Shadowlands isn’t unlocked retroactively for all your alts like every other expansion.
I keep coming back to this thread every few days hoping for a good update. Rats.
It’s extra a problem because no other expac REQUIRES campaign progress (in this case, campaign completion!) to access vendors, but Oribos straight up does not have accessible vendors for things like PvP armor until you complete the campaign. You can’t even /start/ the campaign on a level 80, so PvP gear from the expac is completely inaccessible. And because PvP gear is class-locked, you have to level another alt of the class using SL leveling to even hope to access it.
At the very least, I wish all the vendors in Oribos showed up right away!!
Yep! Same issue. I ran through SL when it came out, Finished it. Switched to this Mage about a year or so ago. Got her up to 80, came out to SL today to go solo a few dungeons for mounts, transmogs, etc.
I’m standing here in Oribos. Got the guards. No quest giver. No nothing. Ran to inn. Dude out hack just has a conversation piece and nothing more. No options to skip anything. Take the port to the ring of transference, no flight master. Literally the entirety of SL other than Oribos is locked out.
Same issue, customer service moved it to quests, Shadowlands Intro Issues … like at least read it and move it to bugs where it can be read by people who can fix it…
Currently seems like the AI response theyre doing is “user error” > quest help
I wanted to get a level 60 alt to the Shadowlands, took the intro quest in Orgrimmar, skipped the Maw, and now everyone in Oribos is just staring at me. No quests or anything. Fatescribe isn’t helpful either. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.
Even if you dont skip, it still breaks SL. I really wanted my remix pally to start farming the maw for the last achivs I needed and I clicked skip, which made all the npcs not show in oribos, including the flight master and Bulvar. So I went on a lvl 77 shaman and did the maw intro as soon as I arrived in oribos it was still empty. So yea… you just cant get into the sl expansion.
I am having the same issue. I skipped the Shadowlands campaign and when I go to Oribos I am unable to do anything. No flightpaths, no NPC’s to choose my covenant, nothing. Please fix.
I just tried to do it on a lvl 66 alts, and same issue, the npc that is supposed to allow you to skip the campaign does not show up.
Edit: For now, the only way to get to zones is to learn SL engineering, the trainer is luckily there, and use the Wormhole Generator: Shadowlands to go places.
It appears that for characters lower than 70, you can go to Chromie and select Shadowlands as a timewalking campaign and you should get the ‘Strangers in a strange land’ quest if you have already done the maw intro (skip or otherwise). However the catch is… if you want to do Threads of Fate you must be on a level 60 when you do this. Once you pick up the quest from Chromie and returned to Oribos, you head to the Fatescribe at the end of the Inn and he should have an option to choose Threads of Fate.
I did the above on a level 60 shaman and it worked. However I was locked out of Threads of Fate on any of my level 61-69 alts. Obviously level 70’s and above cannot pick a timewalking campaign and are locked out of the Shadowlands leveling campaign by default.
Hopefully this gets fixed soon. And any toon that is stuck in the Campaign can choose to do Threads of Fate retroactively.
Before talking to morgraine and skipping the maw, I in inadvertently took the oribos portal in Stormwinds mage tower. This is what I think bugged the " arrival in Shadowlands " quest as it established return portals without and alliance mage summoner.
After skipping the maw and arriving the correct way, the portals were already there, but the arrival in shadowlands quest wasn’t working and the guard captain would not acknowledge my arrival.
Roh’ tal only says " what is the purpose" and offers no skip , even though my character is 70.
If the intent is to make low level content uplayable, Blizzard should refund our Subs for content we are not allowed to use.
I got up to the arrival quest and it wouldn’t let me talk to the guard. I can run around Oribos but there isn’t a flight master.
I tried party sync with a level 13 who was using chromie time to access shadowlands and doing the intro quests, but that wouldn’t let them share the quests and nothing really changed in Oribos.
It’s really frustrating having a bunch of characters that I can’t run through old content =/
I can confirm that this does work. I was trying to get a Level 60 Evoker into the Shadowlands and into a Covenant when I ran into the “no one will talk to me” issue after skipping the Maw quests. I went to Chromie and decided to do Chromie Time and I got the quest Strangers in a Strange Land, or something to that effect, and everything started working fine. I talked to the Fatescribe, got into my Covenant, and now everything seems to be working fine.
I do want to stress that I am on a LEVEL 60 character. I know that earlier this year, when I was playing Shadowlands content on my other toons, the Threads of Fate would only work on characters that were EXACTLY level 60. No more, no less. If you weren’t high enough level you weren’t qualified to enter into a Covenant and if you were over 60 you had to do the story campaign (all four zones, in order) before being able to choose a Covenant.
I hope this gets fixed for everyone else soon because this is a lot of hoops to jump through just to get into an old expansion.
Prior to 11.0.5 as long as the toon was level 60 or higher and had never been in the Shadowlands prior (that included using the flight path toy) you could do Threads of Fate. I had toons that I never leveled during Shadowlands able to do it prior to the recent patch. Such as an evoker.
Just now for some reason (most likely due to the bug), only level 60’s can access it.
Yeah, I dunno what was going on with me because during Dragonflight I had several toons that had gone a little over 60 and none of them had the option from the Fatescribe to choose a Covenant right out of the gate (and yes, I had completed the main campaign with at least one toon). Each one had to do the main campaign but if my toon was level 60 EXACTLY then the Fatescribe could activate Threads of Fate. It was weird and immensely frustrating.
At some point they must have fixed it though because my cousin had a toon at about 63 or 64 and she got her into a Covenant via Threads of Fate and that was probably… Just before or during the War Within prepatch?
My policy with new toons and the Shadowlands is that the MOMENT they hit 60, they immediately head to the Shadowlands and get into a Covenant because that seems to be the only thing that works with any kind of certainty for me. Although I guess now you need to do Chromie Time?
All I know is that this is a mess. I feel terrible for people who have toons at level 70 or above because they don’t have the option to activate Chromie Time so they’re locked out of an entire expansion with that toon. Hopefully this mess gets resolved soon.
Another comment onto the pile of people locked out of the expansion. I started the quest form Bolvar on a lvl 80 hunter that had never been to SL before and can’t progress in any way.
