Transmog breaks immersion.
Gear has attributes and gear has an appearance. If you want the attributes you have to accept the appearance. Your call. That's how it works in Vanilla Azeroth. The rules that make the world work were fixed and hard and understood.
Like lots of other things in Vanilla - weapon training, flight points, pet feeding, talent compromises, class choice . . . . We learned how the world operated and we learned to work within the games limitations. Transmog doesn't exist in vanilla Azeroth. NO CHANGES.
Appearance had nothing to do with character performance. Most of us wandered about looking like Lil Abner because that is how it all worked. If you can't handle it, there is retail, other games or you can play with dolls.

........in a fantasy game? No, it does not.
Almost every MMO game has it.

On what planet can a mage mog plate? The SW set is listed specifically as *COSMETIC*. It doesn't even say plate on it.

So because it doesn't say "plate" in the tooltip then it's not plate even though it looks like plate ?
Messed up is what it is. The visual is plate regardless of the tooltip.

You're taking this WAY too seriously. "ooh, the cosmetic stuff looks like plate. breaks immersion".
Think of it as a halloween costume.
04/20/2018 08:04 AMPosted by Eldevane04/20/2018 07:37 AMPosted by BrockthornThings called style books drop..learn the book and you learn the style and can change your gear to look like that style and then dye it different colors.
Are those whole looks, i.e. head to toe? Or can you mix and match?
Oh you can mix and match each individual piece for anything you've learned.
And it's account wide.
Most of my toons are in costumes that I dye. I do have one toon that I outfitted with style gear I learned. He's wearing bits and pieces of different styles and in different weights. And then I dyed it with colors to suit my taste. The dyes themselves are earned via achievements very similar to wow..like pathfinder for a zone opens a dye color for you (account wide).
So after having played with this type of system wow's system seems very archaic and restrictive.

I never posted that it breaks immersion. I said visually it looks like plate regardless of what the tooltip says.

And so what? It says "cosmetic" on the tooltip.
Brockthorn that sounds kinda neat.
I can take or leave the armor dye.
No it doesn't. It adds to immersion. Most players want to look thematically appropriate for their spec and class, while matching. Gameplay and story segregation is a thing, and the armor system is no different. A cosmetic wardrobe system only adds to immersion. Just ask the RPers who make prolific use of it.

This is what I was arguing against:
Except it's NOT plate, it's cosmetic.

I don't know how more highlighting I can do on this, dude.

Actually you might like the armor dye.
Think of black plate vs silver plate vs gold plate with different trim colors.

It's plate armor with the tooltip changed so all classes can use it.
Cheap change IMO.
It used to be individual pieces you could loot to transmog.
And those individual pieces were all plate.

You totally missed the point. I don't see how it could be anymore obvious.

Nice deflection. Jut admit you misspoke and move on. Mages can't mog actual plate.

I think the poster like to argue for the sake of arguing.
Says it's not plate because the tooltip says "cosmetic".

I agree with this.
Aye.
"Oooh, a shiny new awesomely leet chest piece!!!"
click
"Now it looks like the peasant rags I was wearing when I found it, AWESOME!!!!"

If looking thematically appropriate for the spec and class matters to you - go get the gear and wear it!
Looking the way you want, in a world with rules, may mean your clothes lack appropriate attributes for what you are doing. A wool suit in the rain won't keep you dry. Short pants don't keep you warm. A knit cap won't keep you cool. And in WoW, a thematic look may set you up to be an easy kill. That's how Azeroth works.
If you pull on a heavy armored cloak, why should you be able to make it look like a t-shirt? Gear has a look and it has attributes - just like in the real world.
In Vanilla, if how you look matters to you, get a city set and put the stuff on in public places where you feel safe. Otherwise, best to wear the best gear you've got regardless of how it looks. That is immersion.
Making transmog available in Vanilla for the sake of the argument "Otherwise everyone will look the same" is flawed. What do you think people will use for transmog in Vanilla? There are not that many different pieces tbh ... So in the end, instead of having all the priests looking alike, you will have all the mages, warlocks and priests looking alike.
Great.
In vanilla you could assess your opponent strength, see how far a character had progressed. And the better looking gear is anyway in the hardest raids.
Now, if you wanna look like a peasants or anything, you can just RP as we used to and that's it. Adapt to Vanilla, shouldn't be the other way around
