It is a nice change of pace.
itâd be nice if blizzard stopped catering to countries that persecuted LGBTQ+ people too but that isnât going to happen lol
Yeah, the tentacle dudes were kinda disappointing.
The very first one you listed has been explicitly stated multiple times to never be happening.
exactly, the reality is that Russia and China are too big a market, and adding LGBT characters to âWesternâ standards could ostracize them. Itâs not worth it in the grand scheme of things.
But, I sure wish we had the representationâŠ
Omg didnât know that. Just found out they are couple. - and itâs Flynn actually - I thought the person that Mathias mentioned was Valeera.
Iâm not against them but I want to see average male-female couple more. Haha.
Especially my king. No Wrathion pls
Wrathion and Anduin are so going to hook up after this expansion âŠ
Someone got defensive quick.
Must have hit a soft spot.
Theyâd have to be throwaway characters that no one really cares about. You canât be a fan of a character and rob them of ever having descendents.
- Telling people that Anduin was into women was in response to people asking about a gay relationship with him, which is basically saying heâs straight.
- Wrathion is still only 7 years old which still makes it weird given that heâs a dragon child who takes on the form of a mortal adult. That Anduin is a priest does not help.
- If the current writer has no respect for what came before them that is part of what makes it a bad fanfic, which the game already has enough of that.
- Flynn/Shaw arenât exactly great but that doesnât really change much about Anduin/Wrathion being little more than fanfic material.
Also worth pointing out is that you replied to somebody saying that representation in the form of bad fanfic is disrespectful, not that representation in general was bad.
To which Iâd agree with that sentiment. It seems rather disrespectful if youâre just using characters as pawns to show off how woke you are in an attempt to get brownie points rather than making actually compelling characters with compelling stories.
Which at the moment can be said of the writing as a whole in WoW, not just the LGBT characters.
but thatâs more an argument that they need to fix it, not that they should go nuts with it.
I think before ANY of this can take place, we need better writers and creative first. Thereâs no quicker way to put a good LGBTQ+ story into the toilet than clueless writing.
Iâm not sure if Anduin and Wrathion would be the best example⊠Love the idea though!
I think theyâre a great example. Anduin has already been explicitly stated to be straight several times and Wrathion is a literal child.
OP could not have picked a better pair to show their only desire was to stir up trouble, and theyâre using the LGBT community to do it.
âWe need more characters that show everyone else who they have sex withâ
Can we get something more, IDK, worthy of note?
Edit: Also, not sure why so many characters in this game are hypersexualized by âfansâ. I see it as perverted and immature.
No. Itâs fine as it is.
Now, we donât have much in the way of couples, straight, gay or otherwise so it doesnât make much sense to inundate the game with a particular set of couples.
Weâre murder hobos. Not lovers.
Oh I highly disagree. Look I know in previous threads Iâm a tad obsessed with Shaw and Flynn but dangit theyâre just so nicely written compared to previous attempts at couples in WoW. I donât see them as a token at all.
Flynn was extremely vocal about his love of women and his singular interaction with Shaw was strictly professional.
This is 100% tokenisim.
Oh honey no. Flynnâs always been bi. A bisexual could have a few girlfriends in a row. That doesnât make them suddenly straight. Also their writer confirmed it and how that was planned way in advance.
Also Flynn was being very cheeky and playful with Shaw and getting him annoyed.
The internet as a whole is super horny combined with that Blizzard designs a lot of characters specifically to be attractive.
I meaaaan. Humans are hyper sexual by default. That was well before the internet
