Can we get account wide ignore?

It all comes down to the forums allowing 1 person on 1 account to have infinite identities, which is the real root of the problem.

So when I read “Just swap characters if harassment continues” months ago, how I translate it back then is “The current ignore system is flawed and broken as you can cycle through alts to evade ignores and continually harass someone relentlessly, so if you are getting harassed, swap characters.”

This is the reason why this thread exists, to ask for account wide ignore so ignore can work as it should.

I don’t know why Doobly is against this even though it would prevent harassment but I would expect its a masked reason.

did you not read all of my posts where i explained how account wide ignore helps forum users to identify alts?

people have commented: oh that doesn’t matter because third party websites also will identify alts.

but that is not a good argument because players can prevent those third party websites from identifying alts by simply clicked “only show character achievements.”

whereas, a person who posts on the forums (if account wide ignore were implemented), would have no option to prevent that source of identifying alts.

Correct. This was all an unintended side effect that they were hoping wouldn’t have to be re-coded, but it may have to be now.

person A puts peson B on ignore, then looks all around the forums to find more messages that are “hidden” and uses that tool to find person B’s alts.

You keep reposting this and I’ve yet to see how that’s actually harassment. All anyone can do with that information is ignore you. If they try to message you on any toon, you’d have a better ability to block them and end the issue.

Not exactly. From what I can see it was allowed to continue for some time. There were several posts in the last month that were reported and moderated accordingly, being either restored or deleted depending on if the post was found in violation or not. If I had to guess, given the volume of contention taking place in these discussions, it was becoming too toxic to continue so Moderation finally decided to shut it down. With that said, I can tell you we’re already very much aware of the limitations of the current version of the forums and we want to update them. That isn’t as easily said as done though and “revamping” aesthetics is not at all similar to back-end functionality that was built into these forums which essentially needs to be rebuilt to accommodate new functionality.

You keep reposting this and I’ve yet to see how that’s actually harassment.

the possibilities for harrassment are literally endless…

1. find all of the player’s alts and spam whisper them
2. see the player’s alt in a guild and harrass the guild leader until the player gets kicked from guild.
3. see the player is in a group for a raid, join the raid and then get the leader to kick the player.
4. spam the player’s trade chat with bad things about them so the server thinks the player has a bad rep.

Seeing how the quote about them looking for ways to change the forums came after telling people to switch toons, I think they realized toon switching might not work out as well as they thought.

Dooby keeps on going account wide ignores would make it easier to find alts and continue the harassment.

Not if they made it so the blocked account couldn’t interact with the account blocking it .

Also is he basing this off of if btags are used to do it? This thread we have said we would take any option even those do or do not take btags like in the background or btag name but no numbers listed.

.They could do the btag blocks like they do the char/server ignores. You put in the btag name into the add person list and click on the avatar of the person you want to ignore and set a duration and they can no longer interact the person ignorings account.

Like we’ve been saying we want account wide ignore where when once we ignore their account they can no longer interact with ours.

And how long does it take for Blizz to make changes?

Alliance had to wait the time between BC and Legion/BfA to get their own form of High Elves.

Draenei fans have had to wait since Legion for Man’ari skins

People have had to wait countless years for Tauren Rogues.

So just because it hasn’t happened with in a matter of months or in just a single year doesn’t mean it never will.

They could do the btag blocks like they do the char/server ignores.

The problem with this is what if A ignores B for some unrelated reason, then A posts some incorrect information and B wants to correct it for the benefit of others in the thread.

well, it’s quite simple… if person A is harrassing person B on the forums, then person B uses the blue suggestion and switches toons. person A now puts the original character of person B on ignore.

if we have account wide ignore, then person A can just sift through the forums to find another toon that is on their ignore list… Boom, person A just found person B and can continue the harrassment.

it is for this reason that i simply cannot support account wide ignores…

account wide ignore just facilitates harrassment.

well the blue post recommended that people switch to another toon on the forums should someone be harrassing them.

No, we would not provide a name change. If you believe someone is harassing you, you’ll want to use the tools available to report them. On the forums, report their post. If a moderator agrees, they will take appropriate actions.

For the name change, it is important to understand how they work. Your name will update on any list that you are on in-game, Friends Lists, Ignore Lists, Guild Roster, etc… you don’t disappear from lists.

As for the forum, you could just as easily switch posting characters.

But if ignore worked properly they wouldn’t need to switch alts because they would just be able to ignore the person and be done with it.
