Can we get a ban on Spy?

you did not read fully what I wrote, reread!

I’m not going to go dig through every addon that uses the combat log (though it would probably end up cutting off the chat log too knowing blizzard and that would kill a bunch more), but I don’t want to give up my combat text mod either honestly.

But dmg and threat meters alone are enough to stop this nonsense talk

threat meters have already been broken and it is an estimate.

Pretty sure that is going to happen only if you have an ability
Like flares, flares can show stealthed enemies, hunters use them.
Dont remember what else, in classic not retail, can detect stealthed, not lots, and those things iirc only work at pretty close range, the combat log works at 200 yards range.

Your a druid, you have stealth, i am pretty sure you already know you can walk into an area already stealthed and no one sees you.
You can walk around smiling and waving and dancing at people and they havent a clue where you are (though sometimes they spaz and start jumping spamming AOES lol)

 You’re right!

I’d argue that the “solution” we got actually made things worse, and added no benefit to anybody, though. And, I have never had the LFG addon. I also don’t have the Spy addon, but I might get it eventually.

It’s a very close estimate that uses the combat log, your talents and communication to paint a very good threat picture

if someone is in stealth and comes up close enough to you that you can “see” them (their shadowy figure) you can target them, stealth isn’t a get out of jail free card or anything, people can still get the jump on you if you’re slow

Vanilla did not have a “threat” log statistic that i remember?
some classic addons try to calculate it via some math, no idea on their accuracy though

Same way they did on vanilla

if you have no threat modifiers 100 dmg = 100 threat, you then take the known threat modifiers (like 25% from prot stance or whatever) and math it all together and spit out the final threat value

You could say goodbye to enemy castbars and swing timers.

Right. It was introduced in 3 point something, I think… but turned off for the Classic client, to simulate Vanilla. That’s why we use the combat log to calculate an approximate threat value, and that’s also why those threat meters work if everyone has them (so they can communicate).

well I certainly am not here to cause hate, I just want the stealth class to be able to be viable. Everyone says, well just stay stealthed and they will not see you. But realistically that is not possible. Mabye at 60 and fully geared yes, but for me, I am still leveling. I cannot possibly stay stealthed all the time. I need to quest and fight mobs. If I see someone flagged I go into stealth. They then have an alert tell them that I went into stealth and depending on the class, they fire flares, or cast aoe spells looking for me. They, except the very minority of people that have their noses stuck in the combat log, would never know I went into stealth, there would be a chance for them not to notice at least. But with Spy, there is 100% chance they will know, via audible alert.

3.0, so wrath prepatch, was when UnitThreatSituation was added

You do realize how LOUD stealth is right? I don’t even need an addon or to watch the log to know someone went stealth nearby

what is the distance for the audible stealth noise vs the announcement in the combat log?

Sure. I’m not saying that your class shouldn’t be viable. I’m also leveling on a PVP server, but not on a stealth class.

In any case, I don’t think that breaking the things in the API that allow for the Spy addon to function would be good for the game. It might be interesting for those who wish to avoid being detected to get a deeper understanding of how the addon works, so they can avoid being detected.

I kind of think the idea of stealth is not to come up and nearly sit in my lap though, it’s stealth not the invisible man.
If i stealth and walk into org and walk right into a guard, he now sees me too.

You only have to stay a little away from someone not to be seen though.

If Bob the rogue walks up and stealths 2 feet behind you, Bob is a stupid rogue, cause Bob should have just stunned you instead of making you do the bouncy AOE dance just from the stealth audio alone

It’s a considerable distance, not going to bother trying it though because you won’t be satisfied no matter what

Don’t know, but it is very loud, if the area is not chaoticly noisy
you will probably be heard within combat log range

It’s actually quite a distance if you don’t take improved stealth (the talents in sub or the feral talent)
