Traditional guilds have and will always still be a thing. It just gave players another option. Most pug runs did turn into GDKP’s though, I’ll give you that.
I heard this complaint all the time on Era and all I had to do was link the Town Hall discord with 25+ SR guilds in it constantly recruiting. What you’re stating is simply not true.
Every once in a while one of them will admit the real reason they hate gdkp’s is because it lowers the chance good players will carry them through SR runs.

If you want to spend 15 dollars a month sitting on your alt doing nothing other than reporting people in /4 then go for it, because god knows with gdkps banned your trash can main aint killing raid bosses, and I know you’re not mentally strong enough to grind 500k honor per week either, so go for it king, sit in /4 and spend 15 a month reporting people lmao.

Exactly this. Watching people loudly, smugnorantly, and intentionally not understand one another has been more entertaining than some of the stuff in the actual game.
I mean we’ve reached the point where we are now seeing moderation notes added to a couple posts because CS responses are being weaponized even though they also aren’t understood correctly, and as a bonus, it happened right before that same poster told someone else they “can’t read” with zero sense of irony.
It’s comedy gold and I hope these threads never stop.

Nah, personally for me it was more like “why would I bother spending time leveling/gearing a character to do end game when GDKP runs might be mostly what I’m going to find, and I’ll never have the gold to do them unless I buy gold, and I don’t want to buy gold”.
That’s why I came back to play Classic on the anniversary realms. Not having to worry about that in order to raid makes me feel a lot more hopeful about investing a bunch of my free time into leveling and gearing out a character that maybe I could do some raids with. Just GDKP runs even existing and being so widespread was enough for me to say “why bother” to Classic realms, and I imagine it turned off a lot of other people from playing there, too, judging by how popular the anniversary realms are.
I’m sure it’s probably not as widespread as people thought it was, and plenty of traditional guilds still existed, but it’s just nice to not have to worry about it at all, and was probably a selling point for anniversary realms.

You don’t have to buy gold to GDKP. You’ve never had to. That’s such a cop-out honestly. The only people who think they need to buy gold either, have no idea how to make gold, or don’t want to invest the time in making gold. And I gotta be honest, I don’t understand the point of it. If you don’t have the time to invest in making gold, how do you have the time to invest in SR pugs getting nothing done?
If you have 2 or 3 hours a week to play, pick a random night each week where that’s all the time you’re allowed, you would have a better time playing with GDKP’s available.
You spend 2 or 3 sessions farming something to sell on the AH, or just raw gold farming, and then you do low tier GDKP’s, ZG/AQ20. Nobody is expecting you to have more than like 200g TOPS for ZG/AQ20, 99% of the gear is rotting for minbid and people are going for idols/the quest items. Do those a few times, now you’ve got some gear and a bunch more gold from people buying idols, start doing MC. The pots are bigger and still most of the gear is rotting for minbid, people are big spending for bis items like accuria/osg etc.
Like, if you don’t want to invest the time that’s a personal issue. The game isn’t broken or ruined in any capacity. You don’t have to buy gold. That’s weak mentality that you took a glance and decided it was impossible.
The alternative is likely not raiding if your time is that limited. You gonna spend 3 hours in MC and not kill Rag with SR pugs. And forget clearing AQ or Naxx.
Also, side note, this is vanilla. You could absolutely just rank to 14 (especially in the new system) and skip a chunk of your gearing progression. Depending on how time restricted you are. And that gear alone will net you a carry spot in the lower tier raids.
