If I recall correctly, they admitted they didn’t want to do Garrosh like that but felt they had no choice cuz they wrote themselves into a corner. Likewise, I think during WOD and for most of Legion they were really going for Elune Is A Naaru until the community reacted the way it did. I genuinely believe they wanted Calia to lead the Forsaken until the community reacted the way it did once that questline was revealed.
Take anything Ion says, translate it into Mandarin, and then re-translate it into English. In other words…who knows?
Are we lacking positive voices in the Horde leadership these days? From my reckoning all of the current leadership as of 8.3 might as well be Jedi or Holy Paladins for how sickeningly sweet and peaceful they are. What more do you want? Must all the characters and races in the game be as boring and one-note as Anduin? Wanting and desiring this kind of blending of themes and character arcs seems like the epitome of poor storytelling.
I dunno about that, from my understanding the story is written far in advance, so I doubt that the community has much influence at all. I mean just look at bfa i dont think iv ever see both horde and ally universally dislike the story like any other expansion.
For the most part I believe they ignore the forums, and a lot of their employees are told not to look at the forums, cuz this is an extremely negative place. Always has been, but espcially so in bfa.
from what i have seen this blizzcon they are extremely proud of their story.
it seems like we, lore nerds aren’t the target audience.
most people don’t even care about the lore (not sure if i can blame them either) it means that they don’t really care if they do a good job or not.
Aside from Talanji and Geya’rah though only Talanji is likely to start something since she has vengeance in her heart while Geya’rah is loyal to the Horde leadership as long as it’s loyal to the Horde.
The Alliance is the organization that hasn’t purged it’s darkness. Genn, Shaw, Tyrande, Falstad and Muradin are all paranoid of the Horde while Admiral Rogers and Danath Trollbane seek utter extermination of the Horde regardless!
Remember how easy it was for the Twilight’s Hammer to frame the Horde during The Shattering? Remember how Sylvanas was able to frame the Horde’s forced retreat as the Horde callously abandoning the Alliance just so that she could draw Greymane into battle at Stormheim?
Nobles who want Anduin gone and someone they want in power could easily frame the Horde and use the fiasco to oust Anduin while putting the one they want into power starting the Faction War again!
Too bad that Thanatos and Vandole don’t exist in WoW to shake up everything. Of course with https://www.gamebyte.com/final-fantasy-director-wants-warcraft-and-diablo-crossover/ saying that FF XIV Director wants any collaboration with Blizzard and would quit Square if hired for Diablo IV getting Thanatos and Vandole to hijack the Alliance is technically possible…
A WoW Expansion that is a collaboration between Blizzard and Square where Thanatos frames the Horde, ousts Anduin and appoints Julius Vandole(who in WoW would have been the first King of Stormwind sealed away by House Wrynn) as King of Stormwind before Vandole declares himself Emperor and names the Alliance the Empire would be interesting…
Even more so if Jaina goes insane again due to everything happening and becomes Queen Zeal while Genn sides with Thanatos and Goremand as Beast King!
Well I do think they are just going for big much wow amazing shock value moment’s over consistent story.
But why they are doing that I dont understand. Bfa fell flat for everyone, lore peeps aint really happy, pvers aint really happy, pvpers aint really happy. Just fell flat all around.
Who knows maybe just an off shoot or they were experimenting with it. The is generally one of the more consistent things through expansions and its generally pretty good.
Not entirely true, they still have The Black Bride of the Defilers, though neither of them have had any character development. They even considered offing The Black Bride just as pointless shock value for Saurfang to kill. That’s what tells me they’re not really interested in developing the Forsaken.
Still, the platform is there, if they ever work on broadening the Forsaken roster!
Because the sovereignty of the Horde is important and giving anyone up on a non-surrender premise makes a precedent that no-one is safe- that if their enemy has a qualm, the Horde would give them up to see judgement from a foreign power.
Also, the death camp thing was a PTR blunder and never made it to a live server.
Lastly, the war should not be apologized for. The original reasoning was politically sound (they attacked the Warchief, reprimand is appropriate) and while it turned out to be an elaborate ruse, it’s not really their fault for what transpired. They fought for what they thought was right.
Why would they welcome Sylvanas’ yes man back? I imagine the Forsaken won’t be too keen on having anyone wield that much power over them again any time soon. Maybe they’ll take the democratic approach and elect a leader.
The Forsaken are, far as I can tell, the only faction to experiment with representative democracy with the Desolate Council. Until Windy killed all of them. So I’d be up for that.
Nathanos could work but only after some sort of redemption. I’m not sure what his story is because it seemed like he was growing increasingly disturbed with Windy after the Gathering, Teldrassil and Lordaeron. But at the loyalist ending it seems nah, nevermind, he’s ride or die for the BQ.
Ideally I’d like a new Desolate Council with all the relevant remaining Forsaken NPCs. Let that sit for awhile then build up whatever member seems to be the most popular and well received.
I admit, I was a little excited about the prospect of Calia becoming Forsaken leader just because it would cause some very conflicting emotions in Mal’valen - he’d feel compelled to rejoin them because he sees her as his Queen (even though he’s now leading his own “kingdom”).
However, I think this will work out better in the long run. I don’t actually want Mal to rejoin them, I just like putting him through difficult situations. Besides, I prefer the Alliance OOC, so I’m glad we’ll get to keep her with us.
The Horde is still presented in the live Alliance introduction to the Darkshore Warfront as having a camp where they’re using prisoners of war as target practice:
