Seems kinda odd to do that now when you’ll be bringing those servers right back up once WotLK releases given there won’t be TBC era servers.

There are but obviously WotLK is going to be an even bigger launch than TBC’s was.

Yea, but there’s too many servers, they shouldn’t have opened this many servers for CLASSIC, but they did and it created problems right away.

Less servers = better experience for everyone in the long run

what happens if 2 people have the same name on the consolidated server?

Probably if two characters are moved to a new server, both get a forced rename to random characters, and the first person to log in, gets the name. If the existing server already had a person with that name, they keep it, and you lose.

All of the realms in the list above currently have Free Character Transfers available to multiple active destination realms. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of the Free Transfers prior to August 9 to choose your destination. Utilizing this service will move your characters quickly and will allow you to avoid being subject to the automatic migration on August 9.

You only lose out, if you’re trying to move to a server that’s got locked transfers because it’s already too big.

What about the underpopulated factions…? This does nothing to address the mega servers that are all alliance vs all horde.

Players repeatedly have shown in retail and classic they want to play on mega servers that are 1 faction dominated.

This is the natural end state.

Maybe Blizzard won’t be morons like they were on classic launch and open a bunch of new servers that immediately die once the hype wears off after a week.

Hopefully you will prevent servers with population imbalance issues from being inundated with even more of the overpopulated faction with these changes, alongside these changes. That should be locked surely.

not for nothing, but “unofficial” servers have solved this problem by giving priority to the toon with the larger /played.

In the coming weeks, we plan to remove the restriction on transfers from Normal to PvP realms in Burning Crusade Classic. At that time, we will open additional Free Character Transfers from underpopulated Normal realms wherever appropriate, and we will remove the rule on PvP realms that prevents players from having characters in both factions on the same PvP realm in Burning Crusade Classic. We’ll confirm all of the details as soon as we’re ready to take those steps.

This gives me some hope. Half the servers I could transfer to from Heartseeker were on this list. The others are either Oceanic or very full, which I have been trying to avoid.

Will there be plans to free up some names before all this happens to?

So i have my Shaman left on Netherwind and my guild transferred to Benediction. I would like to play my shaman with the people that I’ve been playing with for the last 2 years, however there is no free transfer from Netherwind to Benediction. I have no desire to xfer my shaman to one of the free servers that are made available. Why would i do that.

So will Fae see a resurgence or will everybody xfer to bene and have horde chars there? We could finally have a super mega server with balanced factions. We either need 30k horde to xfer bene or 25k alliance to xfer fae.
