Bruto mount is boiling the frog

P much illegal in the EU. And no, the “surprise mechanics” defense doesn’t work when they get sued by the EU and the fines are pretty big.

Which still ain’t pay to win.

People like to have a very strict definition of pay2win so they can refute most stuff as pay2win.

Which is why the new term to be used is mostly pay for advantages, it’s a bit harder to refute that.

There is nothing pay to win about a mount. There are already free toys and mounts in game and easy access to an auction house for convenience. This mount can be bought with in game gold.

This argument doesn’t work.

I do admire the way people peddling bad, alarmist logic switched to a new dumb analogy once they caught on that people didn’t believe in slippery slopes any more.

Sub-par maybe - it’s not good but then again that bar has risen - but oversaturated? You’ve got things backwards. It launched into a tiny MMO market and brought a tidal wave of new people. At one point vanilla WoW was 99% of the MMO market all by itself. It was only after that when people realized that vanilla wasn’t really that good, that everyone and their dog was trying to grab pieces of the market it had made.

The boiling started with the Celestial Steed.
At this point they’ve switched to oil and the frog is deep fried.

All of these people said they would move to Canada if Blizzard elects loot boxes.

But they won’t.

They will be here telling you that you’re poor if you don’t like loot boxes. Also why would you care how anyone else spends their money? Why is that your focus here?

The only justifiable forum reason to care how someone spends money is to be able to call them poor.

perhaps paradoxically, the ability to pay for “paying for an advantage” is usually itself an advantage.

I don’t consider players providing carries as the game being P2W. Blizzard isn’t selling Raid Achievements and Loot.

That said, I absolutely HATE how Blizzard has handled Carry spam / ads. It’s something that should have been treated like they used to treat gambling. Bannable to publicly advertise it - since actually banning the activity itself is impossible. But instead the president of the company openly advertised his own guild’s paid carries on twitter, and then shortly after they added an official auto-join chat channel specifically for advertising said carries.

Blizzard endorsed what they should have squashed, they just aren’t technically selling it themselves.

And I’m not even gonna argue if you want your definition of p2win to mean something else feel free, for me I’ll call it pay for advantages.

Unless you don’t want to pay? Not sure I’m following.

Blizzard profits from gold sales and actively encourages paid carries, yes… WoW is pay to win (even if some people don’t want to admit it).

i just mean that if one can afford to “pay for an advantage” they may already be at an advantage - speaking more meta-like here, I guess.

The amount of people on the forums defending it suggests it’s not just deep-fried, but pickled as well.
Still, I guess it does make it easy to find the frogs.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they start selling crafting mat bundles, catalysts and crests soon. Integrity is out the window.

20 years of WoW and to celebrate they are giving players the opportunity to buy a mount for 90 bucks. 20 years and a big FU to all the people that stuck with them and paid subs for years. I got a cool statue a few years ago just for being a longtime subscriber. Out of the blue, just to say thank you. Why didn’t they do something that actually honors all the amazing people that have been around all these years? Idiots at MS are just the worst.

Yeah, the $90 mount is basically one of various exciting dipping sauces they’ve prepared.
Whales finna eat well.

People were begging for years for the return of a Brutosaur mount.
Blizzard brought back a new Brutosaur with a cooler skin, slightly better functionality, and at a third of the price (not taking expansion-over-expansion inflation into account, which would make it an even better deal if we did).

They put the USD price up front because clearly they want to make money, but you can buy it with Blizzard bucks as well with the token system and in-game gold.

It really does feel like a big FU. Makes me a bit sad.

Also seems a little bit short-sighted. Sure the Q4 earnings are going to be huge, but I feel like this is going to put off new or returning players. Imagine being new to a game and seeing all these cool and useful mounts about only to learn that you can no longer earn them, and even when you could it would cost you $90. :confounded:

They dont need to convince anyone of anything. FOMO in 2024 is highest its ever been

The frog has been boiling since Blizzard started selling boost and then tokens. At one point they were going to start xp potions. This is why they removed the xp buff potions you could get from that one rare in MoP and from Mission tables in WoD. It was leaked and people freaked out on those never made it live. Instead we got the boost but Blizzard never added back the xp buff potions in game.

I just find it odd that this mount was not data mined before it came out or maybe I missed it.

How is offering a mount for people to buy on their own dollar an FU? Theres tons of content and such with the anniversary and expansion. Yall want the world handed to you every day on a silver platter. I love when blizz twists yalls panties
