Bringing back FOMO cosmetics =/= Giving it for Free

My favorite part of the whole stop FOMO and bring back x,y,z is that 95% of the people complaining about things, you included, wouldn’t be able to get them even if they did bring them back :skull::skull:

To be fair I can understand the first few classics. Wow is a ship of thesius and vanilla wow is far divorced from dragonflight wow. Its just after a certain point we’re going to be getting real close to modern wow=current classic wow.

I personally would just prefer to see some of the cool older stuff get revamped like the mage tower and have a go at it. The rewards would be nice people get up in arms about that stuff but it has always been odd to me that a collecting game that charges monthly just perma seals appearances at the rate wow does. We get like two waves of pvp rewards a year that get sealed and misc “time specific” content. It also reeks of “we’ve always did this so we keep doing this” rather then doing it for a reason that is actually of benefit to the game.

Its especially odd since I’ve recently been exposed to some of the greediest industries in regard to this kind of stuff, namely gacha games and even these greedy games tend to settle on having limited items be limited to access once a week in a two year period on repeat so that when you have a chance to get something you are compelled to get it because you might be waiting years for it come back. In contrast wow just doesn’t rerelease which is oddly lacking in greed in comparison, something I rarely get to say about blizzard these days.

Granted in the case of CMs having equivalent content could be the issue which I’d be fine with, it does take resources to revamp content after all. These sorts of things should be in the set of do challenge content get challenge gear, I just want the chance to try the stuff and get it, preferably on the mmo I play because tbh I can’t be bothered to start fresh on classic as it is I only play retail because I am rather fond of the guild I’m in.

I got all the original MT weapons I wanted. About 18 of them I think. I know CMs got sold back in the day so if multiple groups of 3-4 people could sell them, they couldn’t be that difficult. But no, keep thinking that.

And yet, you can’t even get KSM now and that’s easier than CM then lol

yup that’s what happen final patch of legion with the free catch up gear from argus you could easily get all the mage tower artifacts with your alts. kinda funny how people want to pretend it was some super hard thing when even prior to that it wasn’t that hard.

Do you think I was actively trying for KSM? You seem to be so focused on that.

As an expert on this how would you compare a mythic 20 to a challenge mode mop dungeon? I never did challenge modes myself, since I didn’t get back into playing wow in a great capacity until legion but I’ve done temple of the jade serpent on 20 in season 1. I got the impression its a bit of a different genre but the general difficulty would be similar.

Cms werent that hard, lets not pretend like they were. If you wanted them you could get them done over the weekend by jumping on openraid and finding a group. It was easily puggable.

when you were 5, what did you say you wanted to be when you grew up?

are you that now? i hope so! i’d hate to think you LIED!!

It isn’t a collecting game though, is the thing, or not just a collecting game, and it certainly isn’t a single player collecting game in any sense. You can play it like it is, and Blizzard has certainly encouraged people to treat it that way to keep them subbed, but it isn’t truly, because it is always in the context of the other players you’re around.

There are a lot of players who aren’t interested in the collecting aspect at all though, the sort of players who get questioned why they’re interested in pursuing M+ keys higher than the gear rewards scale. The game doesn’t award very many trophies for this sort of activity, but that makes the ones they do award important.

And it is really very few items that end up “perma-sealed” in the scope of an expansion. It is rewards that are indicative of higher levels of in-game achievement at the time they were offered. Blizzard has chosen to recognize these achievements through offering these in-game appearances for players who’ve earned them as a means of showing fellow players what they’ve accomplished. That’s always been a part of the MMO experience.

Personally, I like playing dress up dolls with my characters - that’s fun - but I tend not to be interested in collecting things in an online game that I will have nothing to show for but my memories once I step away from it someday or it goes offline. I think it would be healthier frankly if people in general took a lot less interest in spending money and time to collect things in a game they don’t really own, but it’s okay if it’s fun and/or a way to find relaxation, I guess.

It’s the doing of it that’s important, and if something is not available anymore, spending time upset about that seems like the opposite of time well spent for fun or relaxation. It’s like pining for an old relationship that ended in the past. She’s gone, man - let her go.

It’s weird that we aren’t even getting recolors of the CM sets.

Wow is a massive game, you are right in the sense it isn’t specifically for collecting, but collecting is certainly one of the greater aspects of this game. And it is a part of the game that seems neglected at times with things like seasonal rewards that never cycle and bfa raids still not getting a tuning check.

I’m not even a huge collector, but its something I have done while waiting for people to log on since 99% of the time I prefer to play this game for its social aspect, but people aren’t always on and I’m not always in the mood to pug, in fact I’m almost never in the mood to pug nowadays. As it stands though the act of collecting items that interest me is just a form of content I can partake in, it incentivizes me to try more classes and do more things, it isn’t all or even most of my gameplay but it exists in that sphere.

From my perspective having more things to hunt for would improve the game for me personally since I really only look for things I like and if it comes from challenging content that is even better I enjoy challenging content. Naturally my feedback will represent my interests, and if my opinion is different from blizzard’s current direction on the matter so be it, I am not unfamiliar with that experience since I’ve taken issue with numerous blizzard stances over the years for example covenant swapping.

Also I don’t see a reason not to discuss something on topic in a thread that is in my field of interest. I wouldn’t call my feelings on the matter upset as much as I feel the game would be better for it if they loosened up on time limited rewards.

I think that is a tightrope they need to walk. I feel like certain things should be left as they were for rewards that took considerable time and persistence to acquire.

The Mage tower was mentioned so I think I will just throw my 2 cents in. Getting the appearances in the mage tower initially was quite a challenge and it could take quite a bit of effort to get the druid appearances for example. The ghost of the pridemother appearance is still the one I use today even though other forms have since dropped in Dragonflight. It means something to me.

I think that things like that which are a reflection of the player’s skill at that specific point in time are something that shouldn’t just be handed out. To the OP’s point? They are not asking for them to be given for free. But Blizzard in the past have nerfed things or made things easier to acquire.

Now we all know raid mogs and stuff can be farmed and acquired long after an expansion. But the mage tower was notable as it was a challenge for a player’s individual skill. Not like you could just be carried through it or anything. You may have looked up a guide or prepared various abilities/items. But it was still ultimately up to you the player to clear it.

With that said? I feel the way you bring back that sort of stuff is you create a new reward for that particular point in time. For example the Guardian Druid appearance was a white werebear. I never got it, I ran out of time. But when you see someone that has that? You know that they at least have some skill to have earned that appearance. So Blizzard brought back this appearance in a few ways…

In Dragonflight they opened the mage tower again and had a “Fel” appearance for that werebear form. They also made an appearance for Aurorstar as a drop item. (I did get that one). I feel that’s how you bring back an appearance that satisfies both camps. The folks who never got the original still get a badass new look. And the others who got it before get a shot at earning something new.

If they want the same items/appearances? They should as the OP noted carry a similar skill ceiling or perhaps offer a remixed encounter. They might even be able to reward someone who runs it a 2nd time with an entirely new reward. Let’s say someone already earned a druid form. Maybe they get an improved version of that form they can use? While those who never ran it get that form/reward they missed out on.

I don’t think they should take stuff like that and slap it in the trading post though. If they want to put previous paid mounts, etc. in the trading post that once were on the shop? Have at it.

I am fine with the CM staying gone. Keep the MT appearances gone, and let people earn new things.

If they want to release recolors and redos like they did with the guardian druids I am cool with that.

Unless they introduce Classic I don’t think equal difficulty will ever be implemented into retail wow.
Basically this:

I’m sry but i srsly don’t think those Challenges or Rewards are ever coming back. And I like it. Seperates community so you see from far who played this game 10/15/20 years ago.
I wish they would introduce more challenging content like MT, CM. It’s a very low % of total rewards in this game and I think it’s neat to have them around.

It’s not weird, there isn’t one single challenging thing in whole Remix PTR. Just a chill event.

I always find it fascinating how people want CM apperances because its PVE related but haven’t seen more than 2 topics about Elite sets returning. Speaks volumes.

Elite sets already have a recolor, the mythic raid version. Most people would be satisfied with one of the recolors already in the game files. If we got a true recolor in the Legion class halls, I doubt you’d see as many of these topics.

Tbh I’d like elite sets to come back too, but even if they did I just don’t like pvp, there are specific sets I would go for, but I can live with them not pushing me to pvp lmao. Mage tower coming back was good content for me, more challenging single player stuff is always on my radar old or new. Also on the opposite end I find it bizarre that mythic mogs are somehow fair game but single player challenge modes and ksm mounts of all things are the sacred horses of pve.

Not you again…

No not every Elite set.

No CMG apperances would highly doubtable be added as campaign rewards lel.

Yeah that’s probably the reason why people aren’t asking for them. PvP population is very low and people who don’t touch pvp wouldn’t have a chance at getting them. Since majority of playerbase plays m+ everybody thinks CMG is something that should be brought back, even if its lesser diff (funny how people compare it to +20 idk from where they got that comparison). I’m just gona say its my personal pov, before Lucrend accuses me of something.

It was nice addition, I remember farming it as enha for whole day before getting it done. Aaaaand then the challenge was taken away because people complained it was overtuned…

Yeah I always thought we should get Mythic/M+ exclusive transmogs to justify Elite sets.

To be fair some of them were and even I think still are compared to legion. I did all the legion towers most of them in antorus lfr gear granted, I did some on the ptr, I rotated classes on live during shadowlands and there were things in shadowlands mage tower that were just different or harder, and the opposite.

Off the top of my head I never knew that sigryn had an enrage until shadowlands because it wasn’t a huge dps check in legion even in nighthold the challenge was more hanging on til the boss died rather then focusing on pushing damage. I distinctly remember the archmage challenge ending in 3/4 cycles and in the times I did it in shadowlands it was 4/5 with 5 being something I would remember because that is the entire arena being covered and that was scary enough to leave an impression. Alternatively healing challenge way easier we have way more cc and it breaks p1, though final phase takes like twice as long for some reason. Also in legion I remember feltotem being low tuned from the get go, it was not in shadowlands.
