The difference is the pvp community is a very gatekeepy community. Mythic raiders donāt care one bit about you being able to get ātheir mogsā and ātheir mountsā.
You better not think about getting the secret mounts/items that involve lengthy steps provided by the secret finding community. because you reading a guide and doing it quickly really trivializes all of their secret finding efforts.
Blizzard already walked back on rereleasing old sets for pvp because people cried bloody murder about it so itās a moot point anyways.
But yes it would definitely increase participation. People are reward driven and when they donāt have rewards thereās nothing to play for and people stop playing. Just look at 2s beyond 2kmmr.
The way they were wanting to do it of course there would be push back no rating requirement, I have a few sets and donāt care if more people had it. in the end we have it in a wardrobe and it will be replaced with a cooler set resulting in the sets never being seen again. When was the last time you actually seen a WoD S1 set in the wild?
Champ do you honestly think there will be a real, sustained, long term increase in people playing PvP if previous rewards are given out and recycled? Or will it just be the case that people might dabble back in PvP, suffer through it for a previous cosmetic then abandon it again?
Do you maybe think people would even play the game less because they can collect whatever reward they like whenever they like and avoid certain seasons/metas?
I can speak from experience and say Iāve left plenty on the table thinking I could come back later and collect it (rip not getting last man standing for my arena master title).
Youād be a fool to think this would be healthy for the game. Whatever short term increase you would temporarily get from people queing up to snag a cosmetic would be dwarfed by people not queing at all anymore.
If you actually care about the participation rate of PvP, focus on fixing the track the horse runs on, not looking for a slightly juicer carrot that you want to pick pocket off old mate.
Sweetheart, noā¦noā¦people are incentive driven. Rewards are a type of incentive yes, but there is a very important distinction (albeit nuanced) between them. The best incentive you can provide people to increase participation is fun. Unironically, the next best incentive is prestige.
While more down to earth people couldnāt give a damn about prestige, most people on this planet do. If not, mercs and beamers wouldnāt be such sought after status symbols and everybody would be driving in a crappy toyota.
Itās obvious to anybody that isnāt blinded by their own childish wanting of something they canāt get. It would be a stupid idea to bring this back into the game.
Itās honestly not that good, I think the current elite warrior set is so much better. Shame Iām not good enough/have the time to earn it.
Although seeing how salty people are about not getting every little thing they want, I am tempted to just T-Pose in Valdrakken to rub salt into their wounds lmao.
Idk, I just donāt really understand the gatekeeping snowflake mentality. Iāve achieved tons of elite sets from legion to now. I could really care less if someone gets any of those sets now. They werenāt particularly difficult feats at the time, and Iāve had my time with the exclusivity of them. I still have the achievements anyways. There were some really cool sets that people may have missed out on just because they werenāt playing yet or took a break from the game.
Bringing back old elite sets as a reward for achieving something respectable (hint: very little of that left in the game) would be fine if it wasnāt a substitute for Blizzard having the worst set design ever these past few expacs.
I find this ironic in the sense that I believe people complaining about wanting things they didnāt earn is more of a snowflake mentality rather than āgatekeepingā something that was brought into the the game with the purpose of being a ātime-exclusiveā reward.
There are gladiator mounts and challenge mode sets/weapons I wanted and missed, Cruel being my favorite all time but you donāt see me sitting here complaining to be able to choose which gladiator mount I get just because I got gladiator in a season 5 years later.
It doesnāt make sense.
If anything, just add elite recolors ontop of the current elites at a higher rating.
Idk, I just never viewed elite sets, or any pvp sets as something on the level of a gladiator mount or title. When I started playing in BC, they were never exclusive like that. In fact, I donāt think time-exclusive sets (meaning if you didnāt achieve a certain rating during that season, that set is now forever unavailable to you) became a thing until like MOP. Also, this has never been the case for PVE so not sure why it is for PVP.
IMO, sets are too important of a draw (for new players) to lock behind time-exclusivity. Sure, titles, mounts, achievements etc, but cool sets are an EXTREME draw for new players.
I think even blizzard underestimates how big an effect sets, transmogs, and cosmetics have on player behavior, and how a really cool set can often be the sole reason someone decides to resub for a patchā¦even despite that person hating everything else about the game.
I suppose recolors are a good happy medium, but sometimes the recolors are pretty dog compared to the originals.
Cata sets were the first elite sets at 2200, they had elite weapons in WoTLK.
Yeah but, you realize that you open pandoraās box for elite sets suddenly illusions are next then gladiator mounts.
Itās gotta be all in or nothing.
Itās also important to realize that just because you or others may not view elite sets as being on the level of gladiator mounts doesnāt mean somebody else doesnāt. Someone could have worked just as hard as I did when I got my first gladiator for an elite set and to them it means a lot.
I agree with this, I think itās moreso important to keep making nice cosmetics in the future and adding ALL the elite tints cough cough obsidian gladiatorās greatsword cough cough.
I thought so as well, recolors would be really niffty.
I would probably have seasonal rotations like current elites for example:
Azure Gladiator will have access to current elite ontop of cata season 1 elite recolors.
No, but itād get current people playing more, which is kind of what the ladder needs. Especially mid mmr 2s and 3s.
They arenāt mutually exclusive. The whole idea with bringing stuff back is that itās already there and doesnāt require systemic changes, like improvements to LFG, the PvP ui, etc.
Oh, please.
They already threw some old elite stuff in and nobody cared or noticed because it wasnāt on the front page of wowhead.
Agreed. I mean, the Mage Tower sets are recolors of the PVP elite sets from the mid legion seasons, and those items were an absolute hit. Did the recolors being available diminish the achievements of people who earned the sets? Nope. Just more content. More rewards, more players.
