Blizzard you're doing fine. There's nothing wrong with loot

I mean it could be said that we all get loot for just clicking buttons on a mouse or keyboard…

What effort? People just farmed Violet Hold for it, it was the most braindead form of participation trophy i’ve ever seen. There’s no challenge or thought behind that, which is why i’m glad it got removed. No one liked it back then either.

I don’t think you understand what a participation trophy actually is.

If you have to win to get it, it is by definition not a participation trophy.

What are you winning? Violet Hold has zero challenges, no threat, people put it on farm and grinded those badges to get gear instead of actually doing other content. People will abuse easy participation trophy mechanics like badges which is why it got removed.

All right. So you have 6 possible combinations of secondary stats per ilvl for a slot of gear. You get your loot but within a few weeks, you start to vendor your gear, just like in BFA. Let’s say Blizz reintroduces that abomination, the Scrapper, to hide the fact that all you are is a machine that takes loot from the boss to the vendor to scrap or sell. What changes? Your precious loot is just gold or crafting mats. And the whole experience of getting loot is cheapened so even when you get meaningful loot, until you sim it and realise its an upgrade, the chances are that like most of your loot drops, it’s just gold.

So yeah, they’re just giving you gold or loot that has a chance to be an upgrade now. And since everyone is in the same boat (or will be with time, because of RNG) it all works out.

The dungeon. By killing the boss. Because that’s the goal of a dungeon.

If they got the badges regardless of whether they won or lost, that would be a participation trophy. But if you have to kill the boss then it takes exactly as much effort as you put into RNG gear, which you also get for killing the boss.

The one and only difference is whether or not that effort is rewarded isn’t determined entirely by a die roll beyond your control.

What changes is you’re guaranteed to never run a whole dungeon and still get nothing for your time.

Everyone isn’t on the same boat, because someone is going to walk away empty handed, and because it’s RNG there’s a very real chance they could be trying all day and still walk away empty handed.

The sheer frustration of running a dozen dungeons and get 1 single piece of loot outweighs the “rewarding” feeling by a lot.
This week on my druid i ran 10 dungeons. 8 regular mythics and 2 mythic+ and I got 1 piece of gear. 1. A shoulder. Then a DH got a repeated pair of boots and gave it to me, so that’s 2 pieces of gear in 10 entire runs. Please tell me how that is supposed to feel rewarding and not incredible frustrating? Especially as a healer who has to work my butt off to heal DPS who once a pull starts they root themselves in place and take every single avoidable damage possible making my life hell only to see said horrible DPS getting a piece on each boss.

Theres nothing rewarding with this new system, it’s just frustration.

So because it has high ilevel, that means it’s better then the badge system?

This is why i don’t use the “Participation trophies” non-agruement, because how inconsistent of an argument it is.

Let’s mull over your agruments so far:

  • Getting lucky is means you show up in the dungeon, you do actual hard work, and you get very rewarded by it, because the drops are completely random and it will take up to possible days or more, but it’s actual hard work.

  • Grinding out a currency to save up to get gear means you show up in the dungeon, the dungeon instantly hands you the rewards just for merely existing.

Both are just putting in the effort to get something. One just rewards you differently because one of them based off of random chances. Just because one isn’t random, doesn’t mean it’s a participation trophy. If anything, why’s the RNG not a participation trophy? You said you had good luck with it… But how’s it not a participation trophy?

Yes, because the badge system was abused to get gear by spamming the easiest dungeon available for that content at the time. It was universally hated by both players and devs.

Yea, how dare i not automatically assume what he’s talking about, because i don’t know what he’s talking about and ask what he’s talking about or explain what he’s talking about. Hoooooooooow dare me… /s

You mean from World Quests?

And this is a very solvable flaw.

why do you think “gold” is “nothing” but “gear that you will vendor increasingly often” is “something” ?

I don’t even notice when I loot gold.

When I see an item drop it feels rewarding, even if said item will eventually be turned into gold.

Speak for yourself. I loved TF and WF, it gave me reason to repeat content, it gave me some excitement to open an emissary cache and think I could get a new upgrade I wasn’t expecting. it gave me reason to join group content I had outleveled to help friends and guildies and still have a chance to actually get something out of it.
It was a good system.

Yes, the solution is the Vault.

I don’t think I need to say anything more :pray:t5:

LMAO I love when people who don’t agree with someone whining or don’t want things handed to us doing little to no work to get that we are White Knights. Kids love throwing that term around so much.

This is an MMORPG that tends to use RNG for almost everything. “Hard Work” is so subjective here. Unless hard work now means sitting in front of your computer for hours on end and hope something drops. Is that hard work for some people?

Except the vault only rewards for Mythic+ dungeons, which is above many players skill level/social ability.

There’s no option to be guaranteed Heroic dungeon loot from Heroic dungeons, you’re at the mercy of the RNG, which for many people means they get nothing regardless of how hard they work

Sadly that is exactly my issue now. I am a healer on my main, I do my best on every run, I suffer trying to heal stupid DPS who doesn’t move a finger to avoid anything or a tank that will pull 3 packs of mob and not use a single mitigation to reduce damage and I have to burst my butt off trying to not let them die to avoidable crap because if they do I’m the one who get kicked only to not get a piece of gear and to make it even worse, I have to see that stupid DPS who is doing less damage than the tank, who I could outdps with moonfire and sunfire alone if I wanted getting a piece per boss while I am stuck on the 170~ range for 2 weeks now.
