Blizzard should change their "whats reportable" rules

Punishment needs to be dolled out to anyone found abusing the reporting system.

Proof of widespread abuse is scarce.

You don’t understand why there are rules and people need to be held accountable to them?

RCR is not perfect. But it is far more perfect to get someone removed from chat for abusing people on purpose or try to sell gold or services that break TOS. There is LOTS of validated proof to show this is a thing.

If you feel it’s your “right” to say what you want despite the consequences to the rules you agreed to when you started playing then maybe its time to find another outlet for your entertainment.

Or just don’t be a jerk

actually if the customer service forum is any indication it does not happen as I have never seen someone post that they were falsely squelched or silenced and had the blue poster check the chat logs and go ‘you are right, you are completely innocent , apologies etc.’ , every time they have said ‘looking at the chat logs you know why you were silenced and I would suggest you not do that again’

The rules haven’t changed. If you think the community has changed and is more likely to report chat violations, there’s probably not much you can do about that.

I actually got a warning in the mailbox from a Blizzard GM during Vanilla because I went off on a guy in AB. That was the only time I’ve come close to being punished for my mouth.

Yup that’s what I meant. Folks would post on the CSF saying they were “falsely squelched” at which point their offense is made public and it turns out that the reporting was legitimate.

I have not gotten that yet, but I have gotten a few forum vacations here and on the OW forum and on the D3 forum.

So long as the ignore function exists, squelch/silence shouldn’t be used for “offensive speech”. Censorship is a fine punishment for illegal things like gold selling, death threats, targeted harassment, etc; and for clear intentionally disruptive behavior like filling the chat window with lines of gibberish or what have you - those are the things squelch/silence should be used for. But what’s considered “offensive” is a subjective measure. What you find offensive, what I find offensive, what the guy down the street finds offensive, and what the homeless schizophrenic in town finds offensive are likely four totally different things.

Why should, say, 40% of players in a chat channel be able to prevent an individual player from communicating with the other 60% that weren’t offended by whatever was said? That’s what the /ignore function is for. It takes the same amount of effort on the part of the offended party, has the same functional result (you don’t have to hear from that guy anymore), but doesn’t allow you the power to punish other players over what amounts to hurt feels. If RCR is going to be throwing out automated punishments for “offensive speech”, it should require a near-unanimous vote by the other players in that chat channel. Moral busybodies should never have the power to silence others over a subjective thing like “being offended”.

If you support RCR giving out automated punishment for “offensive speech”, you are exactly the same as the control freak bible-thumpers wanting to censor rap music and violent video games. People like that should never be allowed to have any sort of power over others in even the smallest way.

I have a few breaks from the forums too (on the old one). Mostly for my mouth running before brain was engaged. I got ONE talking to by an SFA via my email. In game? No issues.

Who decides what is spam and offensive language? Is it you? What if you’re offended by me typing "Anal [ Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker] in Barrens chat? Should I be squelched because of your personal preferences? An ignore would accomplish the same thing for you without unjustly punishing a player.

Blizzard? They are the Dungeon Masters and they decide what flies or not.

Perfect, we agree. No automated squelches. Let a Blizzard GM manually review things before punishments are handed out.

had a feeling that you may be part (removed to keep your identity safe) :stuck_out_tongue: … yes I remember when your avatar was a different color … does not surprise me that you also have had vacations from the forums as you , like me, speak your mind in the typed form.

You support it by giving the company that’s implemented it your money. It’s funny, for all the talk about 'mendments and FREEDOM OF SPEECH! There’s so few of you willing to stop handing Blizzard your money.

If you think RCR and the automated punishment system is so egregious, put your money where your mouth is.

Yes that deserves swift and instant punishment.
Thank you for showing an example of spam.

The auto squelch is what I am looking forward too.

Last time I played on a private server I had to ignore about 1 person a minute (gold selling). After 15-20 minutes that died down. Next day, repeat. Next day, repeat…

Lets try something different.

If the same target report number was used to generate a priority flag for manual review as opposef to a squelch, how can squelch be very temporary, but waiting for a GM would not be swift enough, especially since that squelch requires waiting for a manual review by a GM?

Well, that shows your true colours. Now, I can’t tell if you’re a soccer mom that hates fun, or a troll trying to spark flames in the forums. Either way, hopefully there is plenty of Anal [ Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker] in all of our futures.

Dude you literally insult all millennials, but you think others are bad and not you.

Talk about hypocrisy.

Anal spam in Barrens chat is something Blizzard wants people to report, btw.

wow the crying. Please make it stop. I just don’t get why people have to run to mommy. If something/someone offends you WALK AWAY. Back in my childhood (1960’s + 1970’s), tattletaling to teacher didn’t get you a trophy, cookie and your head petted. It got you stood in the corner with your nose to the wall for causing trouble - or the same butt-whooping the guy pulling Susie’s ponytail who you ratted on got. Then the guy slapped you around at recess and you learned “Mind my own business and life gives me less trouble”.

In your opinion. Not an objective measure. The 15 other people in Barrens chat that considered it funny, rather than spam - why should he be silenced from chatting with all of them when you could just hit /ignore?
