Most of the Classic raids were post nerf which imo was a mistake.
Private servers have pmuch always existed and probably always will, because people like to see if they can, like to tinker with things, and like to learn and share. Maybe other reasons too, like kids who don’t have jobs don’t have money.
Why would you say this
When you said this
So you are making an argument about stuff that you don’t even know…
We will have to just wait and see if Cata does so much better than Wrath as you all claim that it is going to do. Me personally… I hear that in Cata…you have RBGs, you have LFR, and you have an expac focused all around dragons. If only there was another version of WoW up and running that did all that.
Cata only sold more than Wrath and TBC and Vanilla because it was still WoW going uphill.
TBC sold more than level 60 version, Wrath sold more than then TBC, Cata sold more than Wrath. MOP sold less than Cata. So clearly people didn’t want to keep continuing on and after that subs began to drop. Cata was when the subs began to drop. People didn’t want to continue on with MoP.
Why is it you can never understand very clear and simple posts? I have never once claimed Cata Classic would do well. I never make predictions about the future. It seems that there’s sufficient support on the forums and on my server for Cata. But that’s not sufficient evidence. We’ll see what happens. All I’ve done is make reasonable assessments about the success of original game Cata based on the sub numbers released by blizzard. And mostly I’ve done that to counter other people’s misunderstanding and lies about the sub numbers Blizzard released.
Yea because you know it wont. Cata isn’t Classic. Cata is retail.
And I see so many here existed for Cata saying stuff like “LFR is coming… it is easier raids”…saying stuff like that… it comes last patch. Or those exited cuz it is all about Deathwing… Not at all. It is almost entirely about the elementals and the Twighlight Cult. Cataclysm has very little to do with Deathwing. I still have the grey level Twighlight Cultist rhobes from the original Cata prepatch launch. 3 piece set. I have one of my mages mogged to that gear. And then it has one of the longest patches in all of WoWs history, maybe even the longest ever…and you all are sick of this last WoW patch and want it to be over… just wait for the one in Cata.
I have consistently laughed at and mocked people making predictions here. Even back in Vanilla. I often use one of my favorite quotes, often attributed to the famous physicist Neils Bohr, “It is difficult to prophecy, especially about the future.” Just as the ignorant look for news that tells them what they want to hear the most common way the ignorant prophecy is to predict that what they want to happen will come true.
But since you find prophecy interesting here’s a prophecy generator. Put “world of warcraft” into it and see what the AI predicts for the game.

You are the one also making predictions here. You think Cata Classic is going to be so great. Did you even play Cata the last time it came out? Did you even play Wrath this time around? I doubt it.
I have never once made any prediction here or anywhere else.
Blizzard has made changes to every classic release so far. I have no idea what kind of changes Blizzard is going to make to Cata so I can’t even guess whether I’ll like them or not.
I played every version of wow from the first month vanilla was released to a few months into BfA. I resubbed the first week classic came out until Blizzard said they wouldn’t add rdf. I unsubbed until Blizzard announced rdf was being added. So no, I didn’t play wrath classic until rdf was added and I’m just leveling characters for Cata. If you really want a change you have to quit to get it. That’s the only thing blizzard understands.
Cata ruined our old world last time. This time around, it seems they are making so many changes that it will be even worse than it was last time. People began asking for Classic servers only to get back what Cata took away. There is zero reason for there to be a Cata. Cata is retail.
That’s an opinion. My opinion is it was a good decision to create new quests in the dead zones of Azeroth. Blizzard looked at their data and saw that almost no one ever spent any time there and did what they could to reinvigorate those zones. I’m sure they were surprised that a small fringe group had some irrational attachment to the old dead zones.
I get that economics and capitalism is hard for some people to understand. I’ll try to make this simple for you. The reason for there to be a Cata is that blizzard thinks enough people will play it that it will make a profit. The reason there is no wrath era is that blizzard thinks not enough people will play it so it will not make a profit. It’s kinda like what happened with Classic Coke. When the company changed the recipe and began to sell New Coke a lot of people complained. Enough people complained that the company thought that if they also sold the old coke they’d sell enough to make a profit. So they released Classic Coke.
~85% of players disagreed with that, using sub numbers as a metric. Maybe it would be best to keep things subjective, rather than to speak on behalf of others?
You want to play Cata Classic so bad. So basically you want to play a version of WoW that has a revamped world of Azeroth, RBGs, LFR, no arena teams, WoW tokens and that has a dragon theme to it. So in other words… What you really want to do is play WoW Dragonflight. Cuz you aren’t going to get the original version of Cata this time around. Lol…WoW tokens, no arena teams… sounds like you all are going to be playing retail WoW. It is going to be Cata in name only, but none of you will actually get to play the original Cataclysm.
Cuz lets see…You all want it so much? Then why have I not read one single post of a single person saying WHAT they like about Cata. All you people keep saying is that you like it. You don’t even know why. I have yet to see one single person here say what they like about Cata so much that you cant get n Wrath or retail.
Apart from leveling up to 85. There is mostly no difference now. What does Cata have to offer that you cannot get in either Wrath or retail? Not much at all. You have like a handful of people who didn’t even do that good in Wrath and now they all want Cata which is even more difficult?
41 talent points at level 85 vs 71 at level 80. Feels gutted to you? Many more changes come. And Stormwind gets wrecked and stays that way for the entire expac.
And they are making massive changes from the original Cata so this Classic version is going to be even worse. I play Dragonflight and WoW HC. Im pretty sure this rogue toon of mine here will do better than either of you two in Cata anyways. Wont that be some irony. But I’m kinda thinking it’s gonna happen that way so… yea.
People make such a big deal about the talent changes between Wrath and Cata. Some people say they won’t play Cata because of those changes. The difference between Cata talents and DF talents is greater than the difference between Wrath talents and Cata talents.
I rolled on a pve server because I don’t like pvp. Except for a few BG’s in Vanilla I never did any pvp.
I have always mained a healer. I mostly like dungeons and raids. Since I was a healer it was easy to get dungeon groups. I actually like dungeons better than raids but they do get old doing them over and over again. A new expansion means new dungeons. Wrath dungeons were easy and boring. Cata has new better dungeons.
New dungeons that are better than the wrath dungeons and new raids.
It’s not a contest. I don’t care if you parse higher than me. It’s just a game. All I care about is having fun with friends. I have more fun as a casual player than playing hardcore.
Hpals are leetsacue in Cata. So if it comes out the way it did last time, you’ll have fun. On an Hpal. Or on that priest of yours cuz Spriests were leet as well in it.
I hope that Blizz managed to fix the focus bug for the hunters when Cata first came out last time it would sometimes glitch to not replenish your focus or to show the wrong amount that you had when you were using it. I’ll play it some. But I wont like it. In fact. I will probably hate Cata even more than I did last time around. And I hated MoP even more than I hated Cata. And I’m one of the few people who really liked WoD? Yea. That one was a good one.
MoP was exposed because when Deathwing came down, he flapped his wings hard to destroy the magics in the area and it also caused the mists to be blown away so then Pandaria was discovered by accident because of his wings. Those two expacs are linked in the lore.
I don’t care about leet. I care about fun. I’ve decided that my resto druid will be my main in Cata. I’ll also play my mage, rogue, hunter, and I’ll be leveling this priest holy, mostly in dungeons. I’ll also start a worgon and level it up slowly through the changed zones.
You’ll do good with what you got planned I imagine. Or did you see me saying here before that casters to the best for lots of Cata and that rogues do as well and hunters do good as soon as they hit max level and after the patch that fixed the focus bug. Why not just keep one or two Wrath servers. If I ran this company, I would keep Wrath servers and then have you pay $60 for every toon that you wanted to keep on Wrath servers then the rest could go over to Cata ones. And bring back cloning too.
You know why. Blizzard doesn’t think they will have enough players to make a profit. If they charged to clone it would be even worse. Once they charged you they’d have to keep the server open no matter how much money it lost them. The reason you would keep wrath servers open is the very reason you would never be hired to run any company.
The AAA industry (and arguably capitalism as a whole) in a nutshell.
People want Wrath. How many Cata private servers have there been over the years? How many Wrath ones. People want Wrath. Each and everyone one of us who plays retail has been playing Cataclysm for most of that time. Cata = retail. Cata does not equal Classic. People only ever began to ask for the original servers to come back BECAUSE Cata came out and ruined it all.
What people who are completely ignorant of economics never realize is that what people do for free doesn’t give us any information about what they will pay to do. Even though the evidence is all around us on the internet. Twitter has had and still has over 300 million users for years as a free service with the vast majority of it’s revenue coming from advertising. When Musk bought it and half the advertisers left he tried to make it a subscription service. The effort failed completely. If each user paid just $1 a month, $12 a year twitter would be a massive financial success. But the users just wouldn’t do it.
Look at all the newspapers that have failed. When advertisers paid for it they had a massive readership. When they tried to get subscriptions only the most well know national papers, like the NYT and Washington Post, were able to remain profitable.
This is another reason no one would ever put you in charge of any business. What business men know is that what people will do for free doesn’t give us any information about what they will pay to do it or how much they will pay.
