I still have a mustard seed of hope that Blizzard might un-do a terrible decision they recently made.
If I didn’t, I wouldn’t do LFR. I also wouldn’t keep playing the game at all, and instead drop WoW entirely for any of the other MMOs I play that actually do this properly.
I’m surprised you want people to quit playing WoW and let it die rather than Blizzard fix the problem.
Just like how they didn’t undo all the previous changes they made to the deserter debuff, all done because players kept behaving poorly which forced Blizzard’s hand.
The reason why leaving after you kill one boss in LFR gives you the deserter debuff now is because the deserter debuff doesn’t discriminate between groups. Doesn’t matter if you’re PvPing in a group, doing a random dungeon or an LFR raid, it’s the same debuff you get smacked with if you leave the group.
And recently there’s been a surge of players leaving dungeons/raids after killing one boss, which leads to unfortunate situations for the very people who backfill into these groups, who then also leave because the boss they wanted to kill is already dead, etc, etc.
Blizzard responded to that surge by making the deserter debuff apply regardless of when you leave (whereas previously you didn’t get it if you killed at least one boss). So, again, blame the players who behaved poorly. They’re the reason why you’re getting penalized now.
I’ll be 100% frank here: if Blizzard deleted raids, I would leave WoW and would not return.
I’m sure many others would as well. That is about the worst possible decision Blizzard could make…even worse than the solution the person you responded to came up with.
There are several solutions Blizzard could use to fix this:
1.) They could remove the deserter debuff from LFR after clearing a boss, like it was just 7 days ago.
2.) They could remove the deserter debuff in its entirety, and move dungeon loot to the last boss, like they do for M+
3.) They could remove loot restrictions from LFR, which would make the debuff valid.
4.) They could add an “in need” bag or similar to all LFR backfills, which would at least offset the penalty. Or, they could add that to the next run after someone completed a backfilled run for someone else.
5.) They could implement a system like FFXIV where only the first person to leave an instance faces a penalty, so there’s not a chain of penalties for backfilling.
There’s plenty of blame to go around. The players for doing that, the people complaining so hard about it happening in heroic when it became irrelevant before Blizzard did anything, and Blizzard themselves for taking a poorly implemented process to apply it.
The end result of years of the “Eff You, Got Mines” mentality of WoW.
Reap what you sow and all that.
Personally speaking, I continue to blame Blizzard for this, as they designed the game in such a way other people tend to treat other players as NPCs and obstacles instead of potential new friends. But that doesn’t take away that the player base gleefully adopting the “Eff you, Get Mine” mentality in everything so yeah.
Reap what you sow. Enjoy the Deserter Debuff everyone.
Just kidding. I don’t want raids deleted but I would like to know what % of resources goes into raids compared to other end game activities. And then compare that to player participation for each activity.
Serious note: be very careful with kidding on these forums. Assume that Blizzard will take the worst possible interpretation of any jokes made (because they will).
They’ll take your joke as serious, hence me needing to respond as if you were 100% serious.
I did not beg for this. I called it stupid then (and no, I wasn’t one of the people leaving dungeons, game’s a game, not going to no-life it that hard).
They asked blizzard to fix something because of dungeon leavers and it affected LFR. They got what they wanted for dungeons at the cost of LFR inconvenience. Players might have begged for it but it was blizzard who implemented their wish. So blizzard is the monkey paw as they are the wish granter
The deserter debuff exists in the first place as a result of poor player behaviour. And every time they change it, it’s a result of more poor behaviour from players.
Initially the group finder didn’t even have a deserter debuff. You could join groups and leave them whenever you wanted. Of course, then tanks and healers started leaving dungeons they just didn’t feel like doing (Oculus was one such dungeon) so Blizzard responded to that by adding the deserter debuff, which only applied if you left a dungeon before killing one boss, but not if you got kicked from the group.
Which then led to tanks and healers afking at the start of a dungeon (or going back to town with their heathstone and refusing to leave the group) and they’d hold the dungeon group hostage until someone kicked them from the group. All so they wouldn’t get the deserter debuff and could instant queue for another dungeon…
So Blizzard changed it again so it applied when you got kicked as well.
And now we’re right back where we started, but this time the reason Blizzard is changing things again is different. But not who caused the problem Blizzard is making the change for.
Which is equally insane. It’s always been peddled on this forum that you are guaranteed a fresh run on re-queue. But clearly this has always been a lie. Or at least a lie for several years now. There shouldn’t be this monkey paw RNG BS that your “chance is higher” on a re-queue. This rng infestation needs to be cleaned out.
I would say having to do two bosses for no reward is all the incentive there is for wanting to leave. Why would we want to waste a half hour or more killing bosses for no reward?
