MM does not have a choice of a pet.
So not like BM, not like what we used to have and still screwing a hunter out of their pet stable unless they play a spec they hate.
Many ideas have been given since we first learned of this. Choices can absolutely exist. They always have.

The only change is the mend pet talent now makes Natural Mending go from 1.0s off per 10 focus spent to 1.5s off per 10 focus spent. Better for raid and dungeons, will do literally nothing for surviving any heavy hitting open world content - it just means we will die with 30s cooldown left on our heal instead of 45s left.

Correct, it will have other choices based around the way a majority of players play the spec, because it won’t have a pet anymore
BM has choices, MM will also have choices
Frost DK has choices and they don’t have pets
Most specs have choices, most don’t have pets

I have no problem with that, feel free to play suboptimally. I personally hate using Breath of Sindragosa myself.

The good news with the MM update is there will still be a way to play suboptimally, so you should be fine.
Go pull a pack of meader bees without a pet and get back to me about how sub-optimal having a pet out is for that.
Or a silver elite (the big ones not the 9m HP ones).

True, thankfully, like any other class in the game, Hunters are blessed with ways to mitigate damage.
Pre-position Tar Trap, then open with Rain of Arrows followed by Aimed Shot, if you have Trueshot, you will also gain Double Tap in this update, which probably means by the time you hit around 600-ish ilv mobs in the open world and tier 8 delves will be melting anyways.
Doesn’t Grimoire of Sacrifices come with it’s own can of worms due to Soul-link and DPS loss? Never played Warlock, but all the guides I am seeing prefer the flat DR as opposed to 5% stam, how is this any better than LW?

A choice existing for a long time does not mean it needs to. You made your point, I found it uncompelling. So do the people who design the spec. BM is a pet spec, MM is not, is not run that way by most people and it has been a detriment to the people running it as intended.
Yes, because reasons, it’s terrible to maintain and a drag on the spec focus. You want to continue to ignore that it’s up to you.

The eagle? No of course not…
But it removes all our other pets, hundreds of them.
