This system is entirely pointless.

If people don’t want to see “bad words” they can enable the mature language filter that is already in game.

It’d be better if Blizzard just let people create a customized word filter, since not everyone cares what words someone says.

I mean it’s literally on both sides here. Same thing could be said from each side to the other. Much the same, though, if I called you a name, I would respect your right to retaliate, if that is what you wanted to do at all. This skips that whole process, which is why it’s bad.

If we’re doing this, I vote, again, blizzard make sure everyone shares their personal info, or the other option entirely, just remove chat from the game at all. No voice chat, no text chat, no in game voice acting or in game chat from NPCs, nothing because someone somewhere could be offended at anything anyone else or anything else actually says, so if we taking one step, we should go to the far extreme and just take the entire 50 miles of steps too.

why would people who support blizz taking a stance against racism leave? the game supports it. that’s why yall are so mad. you can go be super toxic elsewhere on the internet all you’d like. but blizz has decided to make sure that the game keeps its kid friendly rating. MOBAs and shooter game lobby’s still exist. you can sling racist and homophobic things to others there all you want, for now.

This change will only stop the laziest of racists. But it’ll give Blizzard some good PR, and maybe there’ll be a noticeable % by Blizzards metrics with less people quitting or joining the game to reduced racism.

Either way, the sky isn’t falling and Blizzard aren’t gunna minority report you for wrongthink or whatever people are scared of.

there’s lots that get you silenced that has flat nothing to do with racism and i know really really well. mass reporting is a joke and i don’t even try to fight waste of time. some people just need to go hide i guess cause real world is totally worse than crap said in this game and everything else floating on the internet people just ask for dumb things lol. this sure ain’t bringing more players back good job on fixing the game.

i’ve knighted for things i didn’t agree with because i politically agree with it. i’m religious but also liberal. the pro life/pro choice thing is a prime example. i would never do a certain thing myself but when i vote i vote for the thing i’d never do.

This. Like much of societal issues, more could be accomplished more efficiently just by enforcing existing rules instead of constantly making new ones aimed at the same thing.

people used to get their entire accounts nuked for things. now even ridiculous cheating and trying to actively ruin the game for others gets you 6 months tops. if people had to actually fear that their behavior had real consequences it’d be different.

With this change, you won’t even be able to, as whispers count or will count too by the time this thing fully gets done. It will be all in-game chat, be it bnet whispers, and regular. Right now it doesn’t include bnet, but I’m quite certain once they realize this it will be immediately fixed to include that as well. It’s policing all speech, which is never a good idea to begin with.

It starts with this, then escalates. Plus, who decides what goes on the list and what does not? If blizz is flooded by 20000000000000 messages from people saying they were offended at X word, blizz will put X on the list. Also, I hope there will be a list to actively show all of the words they decide to put on this stupid idea so you know what you cannot use to begin with. Will there be a maximum word count? etc, there’s so many things here that goes up in the air.

Not condoning using racial slurs, just again, things like this should be left alone and if people do not like it then they can turn the profanity filter on and leave it on. This stops that person from seeing it. They can also adjust the profanity filter option to do the same as in OW or whatever game it was earlier with the funny filter people were talking about.

Gamer bro, you do get actual free speech, again as long as you accept the consequences that comes along with what you say, which is part of free speech. Short of having your mouth taped, or your voice box removed or something where you cannot make sounds at all, and your limbs removed and eyes removed so no signals of any kind can be sent at all, you got free speech. It comes with consequences, but it’s there. People accept that.

This, again, takes that entire step away as you cannot even view the message and it blocks it and keeps it from being sent.
