or… AWESOME!!!
I don’t think the mounts ruin the celebration. Getting a new raid and some cool T2 remakes is pretty nice and I don’t think the store having a bunch of mounts up for sale ruins what we already do get.
The stuff you people freak out about these days is insane. Comedy writes itself these days.
You can also buy a pack of EIGHT mounts for $30 (four for Classic and four for Retail). That’s crazy CHEAP.
The new Brutosaur is actually cheaper than the original, when you convert the price to gold (or from gold to dollars). People were paying upwards of $700 for enough tokens to get the gold to buy the original one. $90 seems like a shock until you put it in context.
We had to farm for 5 million gold in BfA and some people missed the mark. Now we can get it again at 1/5th of the price. I don’t see why you are caring about the mount only with the event.
You’re so out of touch it’d be funny if it wasn’t so painful.
On my server, WoW tokens are only 200,000 gold. Or at least they were the day the mount came out. So for 1,200,000 gold I just bought the mount without having to spend a dime of my real life cash. I’ll remake that gold in a month from professions. The OG mount would have cost 6,200,000 if I had been able to justify spending that much on it at the time.
Oh, and for another 400,000 gold I also bough the anniversary mount bundle.
See, by offering these mounts in their ingame shop, Blizzard is actually pretty clever. A huge portion of the player base have stupidly deep pockets, and not having enough gold sinks has always been a problem in the game. So by offering these mounts for a high price in the shop, Blizzard is offering a gold sink to players sitting on millions and millions of gold. So Blizzard is basically making money off of the gold that these players are sitting on, while also earning money from the folks who don’t have deep in game pockets and don’t mind flushing away $120 for the mounts.
The real purpose of this thread is for you to whine and complain that you don’t have the 1,600,000 gold to buy all the mounts.
a mount that was costing $500+ for players who didnt have all that gold…ie MOST of them…and replaced it with a BETTER mount for 1/5 the price.
I’ll take this over that any day…precisely why I DIDNT buy it before and DID buy it this time
undertuned dungeons, overtuned raid, and silly activities that get old after merely 1 time.
if that’s good our standards are too low
not a complete story friend…those who DIDNT buy it have been in here since yesterday calling those of us who DID buy all sorts of derogatory names.
Exactly
And now we have an improved one for 1/5 the $$$ price the last one would have cost and we’re still complaining about it.
This is actually only truth to North American players. As a player in South America, subscription price from MoP era tripled to current subscription prices.
Adding to that, we are also not allowed to buy WoW Tokens with money even in our dedicated servers which should convert their value in Shop for our currency.
This Bruto mount costs 254 Brazillian Real, akin to 1/3 of our minimun wage, and on par with AAA new launched games. And it is actually with a discount for us.
So, yeah, bit of a different reality.
Adding to that, BioWare actually had the cheapest store with Star Wars The Old Republic.
SWTOR was the only MMO that I ever saw adjust the currency to other countries economics.
The entire shop and subscription being in my local currency made it wonders to be able to buy cosmetics.
With the value of the Bruto alone, I could buy around 25 outfits or around 10-15 mounts.
I wish Blizzard would do that…
You’re right. I should have specified in the US (I’m not sure about Canada). I do know other countries have had increases. This is usually (but not always) a result of exchange rates not being consistent. They also have specific contracts with each country in which they operate, and that might affect the prices of things.
All I got was a postcard with a middle finger on it.
This event was lazy and uninspired.
$90 for a mount? That is just beyond ridiculous.
Ya’all need to lay off the Peacebloom.
Yeah the whole event feels scummy. I have no doubt the WC3 mounts were probably originally intended to be part of the ingame event then they were like “hey lets make them pay extra for it”.
Even the ingame items are such a ridiculous grind for that it really just doesn’t feel worth the effort. Made even worse when I finally looked in on the event tonight and the events were bugging out and people couldn’t complete them. I was going to at least do the meta achiev for the free mount but can’t even get that done.
The whole thing is just a mess. They couldn’t even be bothered to throw a bone at us like a free pet the way previous Anniversaries did.
Nah, the only mount we get is the reskinned bird, lol.
Tier 2 sets are nice but not worth the weird list of chores we have to do.
First of all, it’s 2024, we’re living in the highest times of inflation. So no, I’m not out of touch because I think $90 is steep for a virtual dinosaur.
Congratulations, the original mount was extremely expensive, but it had a GOLD price tag, not a dollar sign. Yeah, you can buy this with gold but first and foremost it’s being sold for cash, not an in-game currency. Tell me how checking out on the Battle.net shop with gold works out for you without redeeming Tokens, which are another form of Monetization for Blizzard.
Gold sinks are wonderful for the economy but is it a gold sink if it’s not obtainable IN-Game?
You’re right, I don’t have the 1.6 mil but I do have enough to buy the mount with gold. I don’t want to because then I’m directly being a part of the problem. I’d be telling Blizzard it’s okay for them to shove it in without any Vaseline.
No, no-one is making me buy it. Yes, it does have advantage over a non-mount holder. Have you played the auction house at all?
If not, let me tell you how it works. It works first come, first serve. If I have to post my auctions in the auction house and periodically check back on them, that’s time consuming. If I have to repost my auctions, I have to cancel them, leave the auction house and run to the mailbox, run back, post them all over again.
A mount holder for $90 is getting a Mailbox and an Auction house. The ability to quickly post, cancel, repost at a quicker rate in the booming economy that is now region wide. That 1-2 minutes could mean a sale you could miss out on.
I’m looking at it like this: The original brutosaur only had an in game price tag. Gold. Yes, you could buy tokens and go crazy by paying $700 for a virtual mount but the true way to earn it was through the game. You can pinpoint all day, people who would do crazy things for a game. Addiction is real.
Overall, the cost to even try and obtain the original mount in game – $15, the subscription. Yes, you could buy it with tokens but please enlighten me how many casual players in this game have that much gold to spend? Especially considering that Blizzard has been nerfing passive gold making.
I will not support the mount. I’m not gonna buy it. If others have it and they like it, that’s fine but every single bug, controversial action Blizzard will make in World of Warcraft is because of them. They’re telling Blizzard it’s okay to put a mount on the store that costs more than the game itself, even if you buy it with Tokens. A purchase is still a purchase when you vote with your wallet.
Edit: Edited because I’m stoned and made errors.
Pretty much.
Like kudos to the devs for getting it out with a skeleton crew to work with.
Blizzard just needs to get over themselves and hire more. Stop catering 95% to the f***ing stock exchange and bring it down to 50%.
This might come as a shock but Kotick is gone and the share price will still be in the top 5 even if you hire more staff and gasp pay them well with benefits.
Heresy I know, but what’s having 3 yachts compared to 29 yachts if everything in Blizzard is working perfectly.
Seriously, who tf cares if your CEO and upper middle management yes men have to take a bonus cut.
Yeah they earned it the hard way by buying tokens for the gold to buy it. Dear Lord brokewhitegirlsyndrome
